My family's experience with Dr. Sadun has been nothing short of life-altering. When my oldest son suddenly became legally bind, we saw many physicians in search of a diagnosis. When we finally found Dr. Sadun, we found an expert in our family's rare inherited disorder (LHON), a global leader in research, and someone who has become a friend. His genuine concern for his patients and his passion for finding a treatment for a disease that currently has no treatment nor cure is amazing and reassuring. When my son suddenly became legally blind at age 19, he was understandably depressed and discouraged. Dr. Sadun provided him and our entire family with an honest and clear understanding of the state of the disease that caused it, delivered with compassion and a fervent commitment to helping my son regain as much vision as possible and to minimizing the risk for other family members carrying the same genetic mutation that can cause sudden onset legal blindness at any time. He has taken time to educate us and the entire LHON community about our rare disorder, so we can all have the best possible quality of life despite having inherited this potentially devastating mitochondrial mutation. I know people who have traveled from all around the world to meet with him, and not one has been disappointed.
