I saw Dr. Lourie for a double inguinal hernia procedure. He is a skilled surgeon with a great bedside manner. My surgery went smoothly and exactly as he told me it would with no complications and a relatively easy recovery (I recovered faster and with less discomfort than a friend who had the same surgery weeks earlier.) I am grateful to Dr. Lourie and his entire team for providing such good care.

I had an extremely positive interaction with Dr. Lourie and would highly recommend him. I was referred to him for a surgical consult. Each step of working with him was a good experience. To start, his staff are professional and responsive, both by phone and by email. The doctor himself is also great -- he conveniently provides pre-surgery consults via Zoom and has an excellent bedside manner, with clear, understandable explanations and a patient demeanor. He also made time for my questions which I appreciated. Overall, I would recommend him and his office highly.

Took me 24 years to reconcile what happened to me in 1999, was admitted to Huntington Memorial with two ovaries and discharged with one ovary and one fallopian tube. His diagnosis was endometrioma. Gave a picture of his laparoscopic surgery that took longer than he expected because he had to tease dense adhesions from the cul de sac. One picture had an instrument holding my remaining ovary. One picture was of the chocolate cyst. One picture was supposed to be a fibroid. One picture was the appendix he also removed. Patrick Sutton asked why Laurie didn't remove the fibroid found during the procedure since there wasn't a cartridge sent for to path, it wasn't on the pathology report as a specimen. Patrick Sutton said he could have saved my left ovary. Sutton probably could since he is a gynecologist. Laurie is a general surgeon that, trained at Huntington Memorial (see Patrick Sutton review). Sutton said he would have removed the fibroid. Sutton in 2010 did a laparoscopy for fibroids. Cut me open with a bikini cut and claims he took out 36 fibroids according to the picture he gave me, but where is the patient sticker with medical record number to identify what he gave me actually belonged to me. At least Laurie ensured his intraoperative picture was properly labeled. The issue is, endometriosis doesn't disappear. In 1999, HMH found endometrioma. In 2010, no endometriosis, in 2016, no endometriosis. Bryan Jick of Fair Oaks Women's Health referred me to Stephen Lee of City of Hope, using the 1999 pathology and operative report stating dense adhesions. Jick didn't use Sutton's 2010 pathology or operative report that found no endometriosis. Pathology was both from HMH. Laurie procedure sent a cartridge for each specimen. Sutton pathology by the same hospital counted 36 fibroids without a separate cartridge for each one. Laurie didn't even tell me to follow up with a gynecologist post op. I am actually autistic and it took two decades for me to put this together. I did lose 7 years because Scott Carder sedated me into somnolence and couldn't call out unethical behavior or articulate why it is wrong. Guess what, Carder trained at USC in psychiatry. I was given something to breath into at home when I was discharged because it's not good to be down for so long. Maybe Laurie should have did a better job with follow up considering half my ovarian reserve was removed. He could have started menopause earlier for me and deprived me of beneficial estrogen that protects my heart and bones. Read the USC trained Congress Orthopedics for what has happened to my neck bones. Considering my poor health status thanks to the Trojan Family Network of doctors, with abnormal EKGs in my late 40s, that probably was their goal all along. Getting me healthy was never the objectives Considering I spent my time since 2011 learning to detect fraud in electronic medical records for big pharma conducting clinical trials in cancer research, my findings are that the College of American Pathologists should audit HMH pathology CAP license for fraud. HMH should vet the doctors that have privileges at their hospitals better since they aren't employees. The medical board should revoke their licenses, but then how will they get the fees they get every couple of years as these sorry excuses for humans with god complexes come up for renewal. Fraud in their medical records to cover the backs of their network of providers. Look around Pasadena as Cedars, USC, City of Hope, buy up property giving the allusion of choice while they refer to their colleagues, compete for cases of their peers, and continue in the American business of healthcare

Dr. Lourie is my idea of a great doctor. His communications skills, technical expertise and results made me a happy and satisfied patient. I had a small inguinal hernia that grew bigger over time and although I was not feeling any pain, having to worry about this growing bulge caused me concern. Dr. Lourie advised me to get the surgery done when I was ready and to monitor it over time. As it got bigger and bigger I finally decided to schedule the surgery. After watching way too many YouTube videos where everyone complained about the pain and were on medication , I expected some version of that post surgery. I had read the robotic surgery eliminated a lot of those complaints, but I still thought I would experience some version of the discomfort many non robotic patients expressed. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. First day home after a morning surgery I was up until 10pm walking around normally without any pain. Next day I went for a walk around the block a couple of times. As the first week progressed I ended up walking 3 miles around the local park with no discomfort. I never needed the narcotics that were waiting for me at the pharmacy. I just finished my 2 week checkup with Dr. Lourie and he examined the small incisions on my abdomen and gave me the all clear. I will take it easy for the next 2 weeks and then slowly ease into my bike riding and other work out routines. I expect to be completely back to my active sports life by 8 weeks out. If you live in the San Gabriel Valley or Los Angeles area, I highly recommend this man to take care of your hernias. He has an international reputation and lives right here so don't hesitate to give him a call. Thank you D. Lourie for taking care of my problem. This was a very unique experience, Robotic Hernia repair with Dr Lourie. Can not say enough about the experience of Dr Laurie and as well the Hospital. It was a very special day. Walked out of the Hospital at end of day. minimal pain at best. Thank you Dr.

Today I'm writing an update to let the doctor know how I feel and hopefully to give a little more info to others who are looking to get a hernia repair. After continued discomfort for almost 3 years from my hernia repair and doing some internet research, I decided I wanted my mesh removed. I figured the best place to start this conversation would be with the Dr. that performed the procedure. I contacted Dr. Lourie to talk about my discomfort and my intention to have the mesh removed. However, Dr. Lourie did not want to see me after reading my yelp review which I think is extremely unprofessional and childish. I am assuming as a business owner and more importantly as a doctor, you might want to make sure you address your customers and patients questions and concerns. I am experiencing discomfort from a procedure he performed and yet he is unwilling to meet me because of my honest Yelp review. Sounds ridiculous but it's true. I even offered to remove my yelp review to get some advice from Dr. Lourie but they still refused to see me. After that I went to see a different doctor today and he told me that putting a mesh over such a small umbilical hernia (2 centimeter) was not necessary. That my surgery could have been stitched up through a simple 15 minute procedure without a mesh. So I am even more depressed now after hearing this. If you are interested in getting a robotic mesh surgery, please seek some second or third opinions before proceeding. Here are the risks of a mesh repair surgery according to what the doctor told me today. 1. He advised me not to remove my mesh because it might cause more complications as the mesh is now attached to my muscles which will be very risky and cause more damage and pain to remove. The risks I now face with removing my mesh are greater than my continued daily discomfort. 2. If you get pregnant after a mesh repair surgery there could be substantial pain as the mesh is stretched. If you don't have a mesh and get pregnant the worst thing that can happen is the hernia will be reopened. 3. if you have another problem that requires surgery such as a gallbladder issue, they might have to go through or under the mesh which might introduce risk and complications. 4. Robotic surgery requires three holes/incisions compared to a non-robotic procedure. 5. The risks and complications of using mesh for a hernia repair is something you should have your Doctor explain to you in detail before you decide to go down this path. Do your research and get 2nd and third opinion. My 2 centimeter hernia is now a permanent source of discomfort. This experience makes me feel like the Doctor's motivation is driven by some financial arrangement with the mesh company vs recommending the best procedure for your patient's situation. If I could go back in time, I would never have had this surgery as it has negatively impacted my quality of life through the introduction of daily pain and discomfort.

THREE TIMES he's performed surgery on me in the past eight years, and while that's bad luck for me, I feel fortunate and honored to have had the work done by Doctor Lourie. He is exceptionally kind, gentle, and now is considered a foremost expert in his field. My last laparoscopic, robotically-assisted procedure was even used to teach newer surgeons, via video (I signed a waiver). He repaired a couple of unexpected issues while performing the prescribed work, too. I just can't say enough about this guy. A local/national treasure. Oh, and did I mention NO OPIOIDS afterward? Seriously, it was all OTC meds and I hardly needed that.

I was reluctant to do this review before because I wanted to wait until I felt sure of the final long term results of my surgery and after I made sure there were not complications after at least a year. I had an umbilical hernia repair back in January 2020 when I was only 4 months postpartum. I will be fair and include the positives and negatives based on my experience: Positive: - friendly staff - doctor did a good job with the actual surgery ( this is what a different doctor said after an ultrasound review) Negatives -I feel like I had an unnecessary hernia repair. It was a very small hernia, the size of a penny and My body being so week after two babies back to back, the doc should've recommended that I waited. Especially because I told him the hernia was not hurting. - the doctor mentioned that the recovery was fast and NO way the recovery was horrible, it took about a year to feel back to normal. Having a brand new baby only took away the joy of being a new mom and it made it horrible to breastfeed the baby. - I feel like the doctor only wanted the insurance money because my new doctor said that that surgery so soon was unnecessary. Especially because my hernia was NOT hurting. - I think ethically I'm disappointed by this doctor because this surgery has really affected my mental health. - when I developed a rash after a few days of surgery the doctor mentioned he's never seen that before. Really ? Crazy because when I told my new doc that he said it happens often due to the cleaning solution they put before surgery - I also when back after a few months bc I still had pain and doctor didn't even ordered an ultrasound which my new doctor did right away. - also I developed Chronic pain that is probably due to the mash. Getting mash or not should be the patient choice which I didn't have. I know we supposed to do research before getting a surgery but isn't that what doctors are for? My advise is ALWAYS get a second opinion in any surgery. See two or three docs before you decide to get any procedure. And if is not extremely necessary don't ever get a surgery after having a baby. It was hell.

I was advised to see a surgeon for my inguinal hernia and I'm really glad that I was referred to Dr. David Lourie. We started with a zoom call where he confirmed my problem and explained the laparoscopic procedures involved. He took the time to answer all my questions. And a few more by email later as well! Surgery to take place at the Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. I was a bit nervous since this was my first major surgery, but all went smoothly. Dr. David examined me the morning of the surgery and confirmed that I had a left hernia developing ...he told me that he would take care of that in surgery as well. It's now been just a little over a week since the surgery. Didn't need any of that narcotic pain relievers (that he had standing by at the pharmacy, just in case) but told me that Aleve and tylenol as he prescribed should be enough. I was walking by the 2nd day after surgery. On today's zoom call, Dr. David again answered all my questions. I am extremely pleased with the outcome. Pain pretty much all gone, I'm walking, doing light chores, driving,.... although he has imposed a 15# lifting restriction for 3 more weeks. Dr. David was always there to answer any question that I might have; he assured me that the procedure would go smoothly and routinely. He was right on. Happy to recommend Dr. David Lourie to anyone needing surgery.
