Gary L. Conrad's Online Review Report Card

It wasn't I but my husband, who had the type of congestive heart failure when the lungs suddenly fill with fluid. Predictions were that he had 5 years to live. Dr. Conrad kept him alive for 10. He not only answered his phone on weekends or any hour of the night, but came to our home three times when husband was too ill to travel. He worked in concert with Jim's primary care physician, and I believe he saved Jim's life at least six times. He was also very kind to me. Jim finished the last book of his theology series, and Dr. Conrad was by his bedside when the editor flew from Kentucky for him to see it. I autographed it to him, saying that if it had not been for his skill and attentiveness Jim would never have seen the last of his work in print. If there were more stars than five, I would give him 10. Jim died peacefully after 3 1/2 weeks in hospice. Dr. Conrad gave me the opiate drops for him, whenever he began to show signs of pain or panic; one visit was to say I did it right.

I received a questionable diagnosis of a heart rhythm issue in the ER and followed up with Dr. Conrad's office immediately thereafter. I was treated rudely by his assistant and was told to "take it or leave it" and was stuck with an unreasonably early appointment with another physician in the office. This physician walks around with a computer on wheels and announces a diagnosis without having examined me and prescribed what I consider a dangerous black box warning medication, being more interested in that I sign up for a clinical trial on my cell phone than an appropriate medical regimen. I had meticulously documented my BP and P for months and gave that to the receptionist for my file. There were nurses, techs, and other "helpful" assistants and none of them could find my BP documentation on that day. I was still getting ready to leave when a brash medical technician came into the examination room and told me that HE needed the room and that I should get out. Ridiculous! The day of that appointment I saw Dr. Conrad pass behind me as I was checking out after his assistant had told me he was not available and on vacation. It appears that Dr. Conrad was inconvenienced with my cardiac issue and shuffled me off to another physician. Rather than do a complete study and secure his diagnosis he relied on a ER report rather than his own report. I would expect that a seasoned cardiologist could diagnose or rule out a cardiac arrhythmia and not have to refer to a "specialist" in his office. I do not trust this office and believe that I would not have received the appropriate cardiac care and diagnosis nor support. Mercifully, I left immediately and had all of my files transferred to a new cardiologist. The first procedure that my new cardiologist ordered was a 2-week ECG monitor that is now very small and attached to the chest and not troublesome at all. Certainly, Dr. Conrad could have ordered this test and make his own diagnosis and not rely on a first year resident's documentation from the ER, where the strip does not even show any irregularity. It is not unreasonable to be concerned for one's cardiac condition and not be burdened with an uncaring, cold assistant who brushes off concerns and quite frankly is full of misplaced importance and arrogance. My previous and wonderful cardiologist in this office moved away which was why I was transferred to Dr. Conrad. I did attempt to contact my previous cardiologist and continue my care under his tenure which was not possible because his office is located far away. I would not recommend this office or Dr. Conrad and believe that I would have been treated miserably in the future as well and worried that if I really needed help I would be stuck with the assistant's arrogance and rudeness or shuffled off to another physician who was not familiar with my case.

I have had Dr. Conrad for over 15 years of-and-on. I found him very helpful initially. However, as of late he gas been extremely disappointing. Hard to make appointments. When I do he instructs me to call him back for lab results. He seldom returns calls even when I leave message after message. Seems he has patient overload or he no longer has the energy to follow up with his clients. I suffered a heart attack and still can barely get the time of day with him. I agree with the other revie: I think it's time that he retires. I'm in the process of selecting a new cardiologist because Dr. Conrad has no time for his patients anymore. Sad

Dr. Conrad made me feel comfortable, answered all my questions, called me on a Sat. morning, scheduled appointments for tests immediately, gave me the results just as fast, and has such a respectful manner towards patients that I can not imagine anyone could be better. I should add that he is brilliant.

Dr. Conrad's attitude i extremely indifferent. When called regarding regarding questions or issues you have to call multiple times before getting any kind of response. I would not recommend him to anyone. He needs to retire.
