Gregory Heinen Md's Online Review Report Card

I was injured at work twice and was referred by the attending occupational injury physician (who said he had visited Dr. Heinen for his shoulder surgery.) The pre-surgery care, surgery and post operative care were all very professionally handled. The professionalism and personal care shown by Dr. Heinen was exceptional. It has been over ten years since my last surgery and I am glad I trusted him to complete these surgeries. At one point I was instructed by an individual that they had a similar surgery done and that they would not do it again. It ended up that both of my shoulders needed the same procedure and the second one I specifically requested Dr. Heinen. I am ever grateful for the outcome of the surgeries as the repairs were successful and eliminated the pain I was having and I would say, "Good as new." Thank you Dr. Heinen.

I would highly urge anyone considering Dr Heinen and his team to go anywhere else. This team DOES NOT care about any of their patients. Especially the doctor himself. I was a first time patient and visited end of July for a possible torn miniscus. Came in for a brief visit where he wasn't able to view my MRI records due to an issue with the other company and was told to drop it off for his thorough review. I was prescribed a very strong pain medication which caused severe stomach cramps. I advised the staff and requested a substitute. The doctor never prescribed anything else nor did he follow-up. I dropped off physical MRI records for his review and a week later still no call. Had to continuously followup with his staff in which they told me I'd have to come in to get my results. I'd have to pay $150 again for what should be part of my incomplete first exam. Secondly, I no longer have insurance so this visit would cost nearly several hundreds of dollars which is unnecessary. Dr Heinen is GREEDY, and simply doesn't care about his patients.

Dr Heinen is an excellent doctor who explains everything throughly & patiently. He provides options with all possible outcomes. I highly recommend him.

Diagnosed issues that I had with my knee and gave me options. I elected to have surgery and have had no issues and am very pleased with his and his office follow-up.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Heinen. As a physical therapist having good communication with the surgeon is key to a patient's success. Anytime I have had any questions with respect to Dr. Heinan's patients he has always been genuinely interested to speak with the PT about the patients progress, and wants the nest for this patients. I would feel comfortable sending my family member to him.

This is the best orthopedic surgeon in Southern California in my opinion. I was injured at work and had a total left hip replacement in 2016. On April 10th 2019 I required a total right knee replacement. Dr Heinen operated on both and mr recovery, care and follow up was magnificent. Dr. Heinen is the most skilled surgeon and his office staff is the best I have ever experienced. My recovery due to his skill exceeded my expectations. I did the work and followed his post op instructions and I am completely healed and mobile in my left hip and on the road to recovery after 6 weeks with the knee. Do your homework if your thinking of surgery and please consider this great Doctor.

I went to Dr. Hienen for severe shoulder pain. After an extensive exam we decided on a shoulder replacement. I am pain free for the first time in over 20 years! Complete range of motion! Basically after College swimming and water polo my shoulders were bone on bone and worn out. Dr. Heinen is a skilled surgeon who has a fellowship in shoulder surgery! I give him my highest recommendation and his surgery hospital in Arcadia is first class.

Dr. Heinan has done a knee and a shoulder for me and he has done knees and shoulders for several friends. His work is highly recommended by my friends. I have recommended him to my friends as well and they have been satisfied. What he has done for me has turned out very well. He is a straight shooter and will be you about your problem without beating around the bush, and he does so in layman's terms. The surgery center in Arcadia is wonderful as well. Their staff is very nice and helpful.

Horrible experience due to failure to provide simple patient care and follow through on promised communication. I came to Dr. Heinen for a torn meniscus. He was helpful, knowledgeable, and I liked him. I chose to schedule arthroscopic knee surgery with him for the torn meniscus. From there, everything went downhill. Because of the upcoming Halloween (which falls on Tuesday, his surgery day), I asked to schedule for anytime that week. Without any consultation with me, I was told that 2:30PM on Wednesday was my surgery time by his nurse (via email). I made my first attempt to call his nurse to discuss the timing and to see if there were any other surgery considerations or schedule options. (2:30 is when we have to pick up my daughter from school) I was told she was too busy and that she'd call me back. No call followed. Alas, I chose to schedule the 2:30PM surgery anyways. I was told that I needed to buy crutches for post surgery, which I found that that I needed a Dr prescription and notes to process through insurance. I called the office to inform them and was told the nurse would email them to me in the morning. By noon the next day, I had not received any email. I had to call them to follow up and was told by the office staff that the nurse had handed it off to someone else (but that person needed info from the nurse). Worst of all is that she admitted that they had forgotten to call me and let me know. I asked to confirm my surgery time and prep instructions but the office staff said that nurse had the info and that she would call me in the morning with confirmation and other details. Again, I received no call. I had to call again on Friday to ferret out a confirmation from the office staff. I was told I just needed to show up 1 hour prior to the surgery and no other mention of surgery prep. The day before surgery (and with a strong feeling of uncertainty), I called to inquire if I needed to have any surgery prep. It was then that I was told I couldn't eat after 12AM the night before. I am currently breastfeeding my daughter (which the Dr was fully aware of) and simply cannot go without eating all day. I wish someone in the Dr office could have taken just 5 minutes to call me and inform me of this need in advance so that I had the time to prepare or schedule the surgery at the time that would make better sense. Unfortunately, they failed to provide any level of patient care or semblance of customer service for me. At every turn, I had to reach out to them to get information and was often met with missing/no information or promises for a call back that never came. I have chosen to cancel my surgery since I cannot comfortably put my health in the hands of people that I cannot even trust to give me a simple call back. Any surgery (no matter how small) is scary and I was simply looking for a Dr and staff to provide the needed information on a timely basis to help provide confidence during this process. I sadly received none of that here.
