Jane Chan's Online Review Report Card

I was referred to Dr. Chan from a retina specialist who highly respects her opinion in optic nerve problems. My other doctors talk about her as someone to go to for eye problems that are complicated. She took a long time with me and explained all the possible treatments.

Like others, I've been waiting a long time to get a follow up appointment with Dr. Chan. I know she's been really consistent with me in taking care of my problems. Maybe it's the receptionists or nurses who aren't answering their phones!

I have seen Dr. Chan at Barrows as one of her regular patients when my retina specialist referred me to her last year. She was regarded as the most experienced and trusted neuro-ophthalmologist in Arizona. I've talked to other eye doctors, and they seem to respect her opinion alot.

Dr Chan is a wealth of information, She listens and then will treat. I have been going to her for years and she has helped my condition and her staff has always been professional. I would not want to go anywhere else she is the best of the best!

I saw Dr Chan three weeks ago for sudden blindness in my left eye. I had my MRI MRA 2 weeks ago and she has yet to respond on the results. I would only recommend her because there's only two neuro opthamologist in the valley. Other than that I'm very dissatisfied with her service.

I have no complaints about Dr. Chan's competence, and other physicians have told me she's excellent--but she has about the worst bedside manner I've ever encountered. I never felt that she listened carefully (she often continued to sell me on a procedure or treatment after I'd told her I understood and accepted it, for instance, as though she'd prepared a speech and was going to deliver it no matter what). Phone messages were rarely returned (perhaps the fault of her staff at the VA hospital in Reno), and the wait for appointments was unacceptably long (again, maybe a VA problem).

She saw me within a week and explained things that other doctors didn't know about.

Dr. Jane Chan is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever met. She is patronizing. She yelled at me as I was trying to understand the results of my test. Instead of a plan to get to the cause of my problem, she suggested that I go on long-term pain medication. Her office assistant was the primary reason that I was not going to come back, but now I have two reasons. They both are rude and their behavior is disgraceful.

Dr. Chan took the time to look over my complicated eye problem and explained to me what was going on and what treatments I could try. She really gave me more hope.

I've seen Dr. Chan only at the VA Hospital, where high demand and short staffing probably contribute to both the wait and her hurried manner. To be fair, when I've pinned her down and insisted on explanations, she's given them clearly and concisely, but that doesn't seem to be a regular part of her procedure.
