Effective and accurate.

I had my 1st colonoscopy and like most people, was pretty apprehensive at 1st. Due to Covid, I had to have a teleconference with Dr, Nickowitz and right off the bat he made me feel comfortable & at ease. I love that you could order your prep kit online and have it delivered to your house. Everything that was needed, was included. The prep wasn't too bad. I expected way worse The actual procedure was a piece of cake. Everyone in the facility was so nice, comforting & professional. The procedure was quick and easy. Dr. Nickowitz met with me to go over the findings before I left. I would highly recommend Dr. Nickowitz and his team. **UPDATE** I just recently had an endoscopy done with Dr. Nickowitz. Once again, he was extremely professional, excellent bedside manner. Went over the results before I left and called me on his offtime with the results of my biopsy. Dr. Nickowitz and his team always make you feel at ease. Once again, I highly recommend

Dr. Nickowitz is a caring, professional, and highly experienced doctor. He is a good listener, paying attention to details before making a diagnosis. I have entrusted him for procedures successfully performed with the utmost care and competence. I highly recommend Dr. Nickowitz and his staff for my gastroenterological care without reservation. An update to a previous review... Dr. Nickowitz performed two successful procedures earlier this year. Since I was having a minor related issue, he promptly returned my call, listened to me, and updated my medications. I have been doing well since that time and would not hesitate to seek his help and advice when needed. I continue to recommend Dr. Nickowitz and his staff for my care.

There is only one thing to tell you about Dr. Nickowitz -- he is so good that you should do whatever you can to have him as your gastroenterologist. He is a brilliant diagnostician, a caring human being, and at the very top of his field not just in the local area but in the state! Perhaps in the world! :-) Having a colonoscopy can be scary and so people tend to put it off, but they sure shouldn't. It is one of the most important diagnostic tools used in medicine and is pretty 100% accurate about what is going on. I have had two, both with Dr. Nickowitz and the last one included an upper GI. First, at the appointment to see him before any procedure, when you talk with Dr. Nickowitz, he really, really listens, and is calm, and gentle, and also super intelligent. He takes his time but he also gets right down to next steps once he has heard your symptoms or issues. This is the kind of person you want doing something like sticking a probe and camera "you now where", my friends -- a calm, gentle, take his time, and brilliantly intelligent specialist. I have the past several years seen a lot of doctors and specialists, and there are few that I would recommend to every one and anyone without any reservations -- Dr. Nickowitz is that doctor that I would recommend wholeheartedly and without reservation.

Aftering being discharged from the hospital earlier this year due to a small bowel obstruction and not having clear answeres as to the cause of it, I knew I needed to see a Gastroenterologist. I used to work at a Raddiology group in the area and my colleagues referred me to Richard E. Nickowitz, MD as he was a valued referring provider. At first, getting an appointment with him was challenging; the scheduling staff said he had a three month wait. I told them I was being discharged and needed to see a Gastroenterologist stat. They said they'll see what they can do, I also had one of the Radiologists and my attending physician advocate to get me in sooner. Sure enough, I got an appointment with Dr. Nickowitz a week after my discharge. During my initial consultation with him, he spent at least 20 minutes with me (which is rarity with most providers nowadays so kudos to that). I was so anxious after all that I'd been through at the hospital; Dr. Nickowitz could tell how I was feeling and he has a great gift at reducing patient anxiety and fears. His warm gentle demeanor made me feel better as he reassured me that he wanted to know the root cause as well since he felt I wasn't properly addressed during my hospitalization. I have been seeing him for about six months now and value him as one of my favorite providers. The previous yelps are 100% accurate, he invested in his patients. Although at the moment, we still don't know what I have (whether IBS, Crohn's, or something else) we have narrowed the options down significantly thanks to him ordering the right tests. In a few weeks I am to do an EGD (Upper Endoscopy) & Colonoscopy at Huntington Hospital. He and his staff had made sure that I received all the necessary information in regards to the bowel prep. I'm feeling confident and looking forward to it. As mentioned before, he is very busy (most Gastroenterologists are since they also do procedures), but he is worth the wait. He also is very good at getting back to you over the phone or through the patient portal when needed; I once was in severe pain and he called me back the same day and got me an Rx. Don't let hold times fool you though. The office is small staffed but they work very hard. They also have a Nurse Practitioner-Timothy Royer, NP who is available when Dr. Nickowitz is out of the office. In all, Richard E. Nickowitz, MD is a one of a kind gem!

Dr. Nickowitz is a very skilled and exceptional doctor. He is very gentle and caring, and a wonderful person! He takes his time and listens to the patient thoroughly. He was “born to be a doctor” for sure!

I had two other GI doctors and Doctor Nickowitz was the only one who diagnosed me with ulcers. Although the first two doctors were local, I made Dr. Nickowitz my GI doctor even though it’s a little more out of the way. Very professional, competent and attentive.

Dr. NIckowitz was punctual, friendly and informed for my computer visit. He listened to my health complaints and offered sound suggestions.
