List of Mark Shiu's Reviews
Dr. Shiu is a great doctor, hands down. The problem is with his front desk and receptionist as well as his business practices. Unfortunately this responsibility falls on Dr. Shiu for implementing these policies and hiring incompetent and rude staff. If you need a prescription like me for example for an asthma inhaler. Dr. Shiu office will only write you a maximum 3 month prescription and then require an in-person visit for a simple Rx refill, with absolutely no exceptions. This is so clearly a cash grab to charge for an office appointment for a 5 minute discussion that can easily be had over the phone. Also, good luck actually getting seen by Dr. Shiu, they try to push the nurse practitioner on you as much as possible. I've only actually seen Dr. Shiu once. Unfortunately I will be finding a new PCP asap. I have a clean bill of health, just getting a prescription refill on some asthma inhalers shouldn't require me to request PTO and burn a half a day of driving and waiting in waiting rooms just to get a refill on basic medication. Also the staff that answers the phone is rude and need a basic course in courtesy.
Best Doctor around. He is extremely thorough. He actually listens and wants the best for his patients. I recommend him to everyone.
The receptionist was really rude and not helpful She seemed really annoyed when I was asking her simple questions sorry I bothered you so much
dr Mark l Shiu is the greatest my husband and have been seeing him for years , he is excellent ! even my granddaughter loves to go with us when we have an appointment and she's only 5 , dr Shiu answers all our questions and covers everything he cares about his patients we will never change himhe's the best!
I really like Dr. Shiu. He has EXCELLENT bedside manners, but he needs a twin...lol I hate waiting for too long. Ugh!
Dr. Mark Shiu is a wonderful doctor. He has an excellent bedside manner and is easy to talk to about any health concerns you may have. It's true you have to wait a little while before you see him, but that's because he gives his patients quality time with him. He really cares about his patients . For these reasons I recommend him to you without reservations.
The front desk is horrible. I have been going there the last few years but I am done with how rude they are. Dr. Shiu is good, but you can easily wait an hour. I switched Dr's today.
I have been a patient of Dr. Shiu for many years. However, due to the way I've been treated on my recent visits over the past two and a half years, I am now looking for another doctor. His staff is not only rude, condescending and abrupt, they display a "couldn't care less" attitude, both in person and on over the phone. This is unfortunate, as Dr. Shiu used to be a professional and caring doctor. During my last visit, I waited well over an hour in the waiting room, and an additional 30-40 minutes in the room waiting. When he did come in, he spent less than 2-3 minutes with me, didn't inquire further about the symptoms I described to the medical assistant and wanted to discuss with Dr. Shiu and just went and wrote orders for tests without actually listening to the symptoms I was trying to describe. I can no longer count the number of times where I have been left with a rapid pulse, chest pains and practically in tears because of how stressed his office makes me.
Been having a horrible experience there. Especially with one of the nurses who takes calls. She is the most condenscending professional. I cannot walk. Im in misery from debilitating back pain. I've done all they asked and have legit back issues. Will not help with the pain. Im 64 yrs old. I need to work but I'm crying from pain. The nurse doesn't give the Dr. The right messages. And she mocked me when I went in there. Also wasn't allowed to talk or see the doctor. Wouldn't let me make an appt. Told me "thats too bad" and " let urgent care handle ur problem" im paying 700 a month. Urgent care? Why am I paying you then if I can't get help? I've never needed help from the doctor. I've toughed it out. But this is cruel what they are doing to elderly patients. This woman has treated all my family with an attitude and distain. I can't imagine a doctor, if he knew , would allow it. So all I can think of is she's taking matters into her own hands and not relaying my calls or messages. Disgusted UPDATE: they kept making me take off work to come in for an office visit and give medications that they could have prescribed over the phone. I've been in there 5 times in 10 days. Prescribed Gabapentin 100mg once a day. I'm 280lbs, 6'2 . This is a sick joke. 5th time I called about this not working and begged for help at least until I can get into pain management, and AGAIN want me to come in. Everytime I talk to them they say "sounds like you need a strong pain killer but for that you need to come in" . I come in , and he gives 200mg Gabapentin. They lie to get you in to pay the co-pays im noticing. I have never been on pain medication. No history of abuse, I don't drink, I don't do drugs. I am a hard working citizen who pays my bills. And this man couldn't even help with my pain for the weekend. Finally my wife and daughter call and come in with me. They ask them what is going on and why are they treating me this way. I've never seen this before in a doctor. The nurse then tells us " He finds it odd that out of the blue im in excruciating pain " ..basically accuses me of faking it...I have documentation of severe arthritis and slipped disks along with sciatica. .it is NOT TRUE it just started.! He can even see my chart IVE BEEN GOING IN THERE FOR 2 YRS NOW WITH THIS PAIN. I DID ALL THEY ASKED AND NEVER COMPLAINED. I TOOK ALL THEY WANTED ME TO FOR 2 YRS ! MY FAMILY ALL HAVE CAME IN WITH ME BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT I WASNT TELLING THEM THE TRUTH ON HOW MUCH PAIN I AM IN AND THATS WHY HE WASNT TREATING MY EXCRUCIATING PAIN. Because he he's put me in physical therapy I am now in the worst condition and I'm at my limit. And the most he gave was tramadol 20 count one a day 50 MG tramadol. That's the only pain med he's tried. The rest has been weird meds that don't have anything to do with treating back pain. My 10lb dog is on 100mg tramadol 3 times a day! ...I am 280lbs and 6'2 ! ...my wife is on 1500 MG a day gabbapentine for RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME ...and she's 115 lbs. ! He gives me 100mg a day ...its absolute inanity ...I have grandkids I want to enjoy. And everyday my daughter is taking care of me. Puts my socks on for me, helps me dress, and I have a tool I use to help put my shoes on. Every night she stays up to help me get up to walk to bed. Tucks me in ...its just not fair what could be my last years r spent like this all bec this doctor will not help me .
Needed slot of referrals for my brother upcoming surgery,he was very expedient

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
