John Clarke's Online Review Report Card

I had a procedure scheduled for months with Dr. Clarke. Only a week before the procedure they called and told me that my insurance was not going to cover it and that it would be $17,000. This is something that should have come up months prior when I was first referred from another GI specialist and the procedure was first scheduled. I called and left a message for Dr. Clarke to ask for alternatives or what he thought I should do given the circumstances (and that it was a procedure my doctors felt I needed due to other health concerns) I never received any call back. This is the first time i've left a review for a doctor, let alone a negative review, but as someone who has been in and out of hospitals and constant medical care my whole life and been through all manner of ups and downs with hospital administration, this experience has been particularly disappointing. Especially since I was already very nervous about the procedure so now I have to try and find someone else who will do it and feel all the more anxious about it. I am sure Dr. Clarke is a very skilled medical professional, this review is not targeted at his skill or expertise at all and I mean no offense to his character, but his office needs to be better about getting necessary information to patients well in advance so they can plan accordingly and better at calling back patients with concerns.I had a procedure scheduled for months with Dr. Clarke. Dr.Clarke is a highly regarded diagnostician ,verypragmatic with an excellent bedside manner. What a great addition to Stanford Gastroenterology practice! I was seen by Dr. Clarke after a referral from my home area gastroenterologist. He is an outstanding physician. Very thorough, listens to you, and has an easy demeanor putting patients more at ease and has ability to clearly explain diagnoses and any testing results. I believe he chairs or leads one of the sub specialties in his department at the Stanford Digestive Health Clinic. He came to Stanford from John Hopkins, his knowledge experience at leading medical institutions is immediately apparent. My home gastroenterologist was also very happy with Dr. Clarke’s assistances in my diagnoses. Dr. Clarke made the diagnoses my local GI physician could not, and ordered the tests that definitely confirmed those diagnoses.I can confidently recommend him to anyone needing what I’ll call the GI specialist for GI specialist. He glanced at some case notes and stated that he would schedule my procedures “as soon as possible.” After a week of silence from his office I called to get an update. I’m now scheduled to have the procedures done ... 6 weeks from our consultation. He typifies an employed physician.The least impressive interaction I have had with a physician..
