Patrick Hsieh's Online Review Report Card

I recently saw Dr. Hseih at Keck Medical Center on a referral from Kaiser in hopes of being seen sooner. We waited over 2 hours for the "king" to enter only after his PA or NP came in with her iPad and asked me many questions. She was pleasant. He eventually came in and addressed my husband and turned to me and curtly asked what I was doing there. I answered that I came in hopes of getting help for my back problems. He sharply said that there was nothing he could do for me and that I should just go home and lose weight and take narcotics for the pain since I was on blood thinners. My husband is a physician and I am an RN. He criticized Kaiser every chance he got. He never examined me nor did he go over x-rays or MRIs that were done. He was arrogant and impressed with himself. He spent all of 5 minutes in the room. It was a most troubling visit. On the insistence of my primary physician, I returned to the Kaiser Spine center and had a much different diagnosis and experience. I will have surgery there. I would not recommend that anyone see Dr. Hsieh. It was shameful.

The worst office visit I have ever had. He started off by diminishing my situation to the point of making me feel that this appointment was unnecessary, although I was referred by Kaiser Specialist. Looked at my MRI and told me that he has seen a lot worse and surgery wasn’t necessary. I explained that I didn’t initiate this visit ... but I was curious what my options were. Felt like I was wasting his time . He may be a good surgeon, but he is very rude ,dismissive and very condescending when answering questions.

Provider fixated on general condition stating he couldn't alleviate that, which obviously wasn't what I or my referral came for. I've waited a year to obtain this appointment, simply because Keck never called back. Hsieh only looked at my newest diagnostics, not the progression from prior to my knowledge; which was the basis of the previous referral for the speciality and diagnosis of necessity of emergency surgery. This guy maybe just wasn't confident of his skills? When I even began to question, because I was confused that he was saying he "absolutely wouldn't operate," and also, "but couldn't be sure without more diagnostics" (reasonably confusing), he switched from that to suddenly not being able to help me at all. When I pressed what just changed and how has it so rapidly gone from waiting a year for emergency surgery in agony to this, he replied, "I needed to verify the notes and reports I've gone over already." Verification is about trust, so I say, "why do you think I'm lying?" To which he tried to gaslight me with nonsense about my feelings and the subjectivity of pain and was attempting to use psychoanalytics quite poorly and inappropriately. I didn't get to even respond fully to a single thing he said, excepting when I called him out for saying he doesn't care about my feelings after bringing them up. Which he tried to also deny and turn around on me. This sociopath owes me an apology and his company owes me a reasonable human interaction and care that amounts to the legally obligated requirement of a fair and full consultation.

Dr.Hsieh was the worst ever, told me surgery wouldn’t help me at all, referenced football analogies to my situation, I had no idea where he was going with anything he was saying. He left me feeling hopeless!! Very dismissive and it felt like he could give a rats butt about my situation. Thank God I didn’t take his opinion to heart and went to another dr and got surgery and now I’m pain free!!!! Shame on you for Dr Hsieh for thinking you know best!!!

I had back surgery done by Dr Hseih about four years ago @ Keck. I am in excellent health but had a herniated disc L4/5 which did respond to non surgical therapy. Dr Hseih placed at spacer at that level and fixed by spine at that level via minimally invasive technique. I have been perfect since and had no issues with my back since. As a physician living and practicing in the OC, I spent a lot of time and effort researching and learning about my surgical options. I interviewed and was examed by as least four neurosurgeons in southern California before chosing Dr Hseih. While Dr Hseih bedside manner could be slightly improved, his surgical opinion and technique are top flight. When chosing a surgeon the single most important aspects are their skill and judgement. Dr Hseish is expectional in my opinion and I have highly recommended him to both my friends and patients. He is not a "hand holder" which in my experience is not a common characteristic is most excellent surgeon. They tend to be focused on their craft. In the end it is the result that matters and I had an excellent result with surgery done by Dr Hseih.

Dr. Hsieh is the only person I trust with my neurological health. He is knowledgeable, patient and listens to all of my concerns. I trust his experience and skills. His office is professional and helpful. I find the office space always very clean.

Dr. Hsieh did a spinal fuse on my 80 year old father in law. It’s because of him that my father in law to this day isn’t paralyzed and can walk on his own with no pain what so ever. If your looking for a fantastic staff and a brilliant surgeon go with Hsieh. If your looking for bedside manners to be the “Standard” of your care. You should go back to Kaiser/HMO doctors. Hsieh is the real deal. He doesn’t need to do a full physical the MRI is his guide and tells him what’s next. Thanks Dr. Hsieh!

This doctor was recommended to me by physician friends of mine. This was my third major back surgery. While waiting for surgery my back broke the doctor had to contend with both my original problem and the broken back. The doctor was very Frank with me about my prognosis. He was right on with his assessment. The surgery was very successful I went from being on 75 mg of morphine three times a day to no pain medicine at all and little discomfort. The only difficulty I had was my post-operative Hospital stay was the most painful I have had. I'm not sure if that was totally in my Dr control or if it was partially because of the hospital. I would recommend this doctor to anybody lucky enough to get him.

Dr Hsieh was fantastic. He performed back surgery on me and Ifelt immediate relief. Dr Hsieh, his staff, and the other associates at USC were pleasant, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable all through the surgery. Not living in a large metropolitan area we anticipated being treated like a number. That was not the case!! They are all there to assist the patient. I highly recommend Dr Hsieh, Jana Evenhouse, and all the staff at USC

Hsieh was great from day one. He explained my option in simple easy to understand language. Confirmed the dx and performed some testing himself. He performed a artificial cervical disc replacement. Saw me before surgery and after. Saw me the next day (before a 15 hour surgery) to insure I was doing well. I was discharged within 24 hours and at work the following day and doing normal activity right away. My neck is soooooooo much better thanks to Hsieh. Highly recommended.
