I had great luck with him. I had done some treatments and got really sick.the paperwork told me it could happen and it did. My blood sugar was running up to 500. I went to 3 different Doctor’s. Finally I was referred to Doctor McKenna. He changed some of my meds. Got it down to 180.

I recently switched to an insulin pump. The woman who has been helping me with getting the pump set up said that only Dr. McKenna can change the settings on the pump. I started way below my usual dosage before switching to the pump. She was able to reach him and they changed my dosage once. It was still not enough and I have been averaging my blood sugars around 220, whereas before I was around 140 before I switched to this pump. The woman with Tandem said she had tried to reach him and left him multiple messages but had not returned her call. I tried getting in touch with him. His nurse was rude to me on the phone when I told her what I needed, saying that was something that the pump trainer had to do. When I told her that she had tried reaching him, she said "well, fine, I'll send him another message" like I was putting her off by asking him for him to help me. I'm being more than patient in trying to understand that he has a lot of patients, but, I'm not having any luck at all getting him to help me adjust my pump so it's not giving me a dangerously low amount of insulin. He also took nearly a month to get Tandem my information so they could get me the pump to begin with, leaving me frustrated before I even got the T-2 X-Slim pump.
