List of Aurora Behavioral Healthcare San Diego Hospital's Reviews
I would give them 5 stars. Even though my son left a bit upset after being there for a week, he told me he never wants to go back — and for me, that was a sign that something made him reflect. He said he’s willing to work on himself, continue his therapy, and seek help outside as well. He also shared that a teenage girl there had admitted herself seeking help, which moved me deeply. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish there had been better communication with the psychiatrist and medical staff, especially on the day of his discharge. I had no idea he was being released until he called me himself to be picked up. That said, every time I called, the staff treated me with kindness and respect. I truly appreciate that. I know that mental health care is not easy, and I thank you all for the work you do. I genuinely hope you continue growing and improving with passion and heart for this mission. 🤍
Staff was rude when I got there. Made jokes about suicide and depression. They kept me isolated for days I begged them to be with me everyday and nobody cared. Made my parents pay for stuff they never agreed on. When I had mental breakdowns they kept me alone in my room. food was horrible. They lied about everything and kept me away from my family. Staff on the first day I got there three cards at me and made fun of how I cried and pointed at me. I seriously don't want anyone to go through what I been through in that place
i was there for a week August ‘24 — for some odd reason they decided to let the new kid who was at the time on drugs run loose and he ended up punching a kid in the face. he was sent to the “booty juice room” where someone else was also sent like three times? why are they isolated in a scary room with nothing but a sad mat on the floor with a camera facing them? thats not care, thats just inhumane. and what is with the point system? if you aren’t this certain rank you cant go down and pick what you want to eat? how is staying on a single floor never going outside helpful for anybody? i only went outside a SINGLE time during that whole visit and even then it was unbearable. i cant tell you a single person in there who actually felt like they were getting treatment they deserved. theres no mirrors anywhere, and no concept of time.
My favorite nurses Hannah and Waylon or Wayden I miss them. They were the NICEST nurses there and were so considerate of all patients. But they never ever payed attention to when I had actually ate or not, I went three days without eating and they never noticed. All of the doctors are terrible and I don’t think they deserve their job. I hope they do better making it comfortable for other patients instead of constantly blaming patients for being there. I hope my favorite nurses continue to do good because they were the ONLY reason I liked being there.
Dr Palmer let mr son out while he was still manic
I went here 10 years ago and I still think about how awful the treatment was. At 14 I had any ‘comfort items’ taken away, was isolated from others my entire stay due to drawing on my arms (which was washed off within my first hour of arrival), and was even nicknamed ‘10-foot’ by staff because of my forced isolation from the groups. There were children as young as 10 who were essentially tacked and brought into the ‘booty juice room’ for behaviors that should have been met with direct counseling instead of being tranquilized. 0/10 do not recommend for anyone
This is the worst facility in San Diego! Imagine how venerable you are in this time and the first thing they do is take you to a ugly, cold room and strip you down naked. They lock you up and do nothing for the treatment of Individuals. All they do is cause more damage. Same as sharp mesa vista and API. Sharp Mcdonald center is so much better but it's only 30 days.
If you are looking to go to an institution where they can hold you against you and your families will for no legitimate reason other than to assert their dominance. If you want to come in and be stripped search. If you want to be put in a room with only cold water handles for both the sink and shower. If you want to be treated among many others that have very different conditions in spite of going in for a specific treatment and be placed with someone on suicide watch while you are detoxing from alcohol. Where policies are at the whim of the person you are dealing with. And your treatment will be modified based on their momentary disposition. Then this is the place for you. I’ve been to quite a few treatment centers over the years both here in San Diego, Riverside and out of the county. I have never experienced a facility with less care and appropriate medication protocols, cleanliness etc than any other facility I’ve ever experienced. I would say you will find better care in most any other healthcare center than this place.
i was admitted here several times in the span of a few years and i just want to say this hospital should no longer be running. without getting too personal, i can say that from my experience, just about everyone working here is unprofessional and not fit to work in the psychiatric field. the staff would mock schizophrenic patients and patients that were not fully alert DIRECTLY in front of them. if you ever have a crisis and need help, they will either mock you or completely ignore you. they do not care about the safety of their patients. while i was there, one male patient randomly attacked another multiple times in one day and each time the staff were so slow to do anything about it and the final time they just let it happen even though the attacker was supposed to be closely watched at all times
My friend who was in with me and kicked out ended up committing suicide. I was trying to update my review but kept prompting me to do a new one. I posted the former as a photo.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
