List of San Diego Orthopaedic Associates Medical Group's Reviews
Dr. Bawa's staff have repeatedly dropped the ball. Not only did they repeatedly fail to transmit the pharmacy order in a timely manner, they also failed to transmit the physical therapy referral at all. Which would only be annoying, if it were possibly to contact them, BUT THEY WON'T ANSWER THE PHONE. Neither for us, nor for the physical therapy office. It's just unprofessional service.
They’ve been prompt and professional in handling my care.
Very thorough, methodical and takes time with the patient.
Had a hip replacement by Dr. Fabi. He's an amazing surgeon and it's been just over 2 weeks and I'm walking without any help with a minimal amount of pain! The surgical center was fabulous! Great nurses and lots of attention and went home the day of the surgery. I will say that the office is very busy and a wait may be required, but I'm willing to wait if I know my surgeon is great!
Dr. Tanka is one of the best Hand Specialist ever.
Staff is always professional and courteous. I like the Dr. Toliver types... really listen to you and give you no BS advice. And, he seems like a great person!
I made an appointment with them the end of December, couldn't get in till 1-26-23. So, I made the appointment. Called on the way up just to confirm my appointment, they said no it was canceled and rescheduled for June. I did not cancel my appointment, we live 2 hours away and we're half way there. I said well can you get me in and who canceled my appointment, we don't know. No, we are booked. Can't get you in. Granted the road conditions were horrible 45 plus winds on the 8. Didn't care!
I have nothing but praise for Dr. Larry Dodge (San Diego Orthopaedic Associates). Through his outstanding care and treatment he gave back to me a desired quality of life. He has been my doctor for almost 8 years for my lower lumber. He performed successful surgery (L4-L5) for spondylolisthesis and severe spinal stenosis. Thanks to successful surgery and post-op rehab I was able to resume work in a physically demanding job with no restrictions. Subsequent to surgery any tweakage to the lower lumbar was promptly and effectively handled. Lastly- Dr. Dodge is a caring, highly competent doctor, and I would recommend him to anyone seeking the best possible care.Kudos also to Dr. Dodge's team for their role in providing a very positive experience.
Dr. Scott Tanaka is great! I am VERY pleased with the outcome of his treatment of my hands. I am 68 and after 40+ years of bicycling over the last 2-3 years my thumb area on both hands became increasingly painful, weak and numb due to lots of use and arthritis setting in even as I rode fewer miles. Even had my bicycle customized which helped my hand pain short term but ultimately my hand problems continued to get worse over time. We started with braces for both hands. When that didn't come close to solving my problem we moved to injections at the base of both thumbs. The right thumb responded beautifully. The left thumb did not so we scheduled surgery at the outpatient surgical center (who were outstanding!) in August 2022 (so I could go home the same day). The surgery, Occupational Therapy and overall recovery went just as Dr. Tanaka described. Best of all NO SURPRISES! At follow-up appointments changed my cast several times to apply a new dressing (which was also good as it got somewhat dirty near my fingers). He also checked my pain level and flexibility/range of motion. He was patient, listened carefully and fully answered my questions and concerns. I never felt rushed (so I always patient if he was running a few minutes behind schedule as I knew he was doing the same for another patient). My follow-up appointments with Dr. Tanaka resulted in good feedback focusing on what exercises he wants me doing. As expected, my improvement is slowing as I reach my maximum recovery. Again, exactly as he described. I am very grateful my Primary Care Physician referred me to Dr. Tanaka. If you are worried and scared about your problem like I was see Dr. Tanaka. Years ago, I had three orthopedic surgeries on my knees due to a workplace warehouse accident and had enough experience to appreciate the outstanding treatment and care I received.....simply the best. His staff followed his example and were wonderful as were the ladies in the office....everyone was helpful if I ever had a question or needed assistance.
Once my appointment was made and kept, the service was adequate. But it's a busy get-em-in-get-em-out operation. The two star rating is for the two appointments I made with them that weren't kept. The first one I walked out on after both the doctor and office staff arrived late, leaving me no time to see them without being late for my own work. The second one was cancelled by them the day of. Given the difficulty involved in trying to make any appointment with them as a working person, I have no interest in going back.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
