List of San Diego Sports Medicine Weight & Wellness's Reviews
My son was referred to San Diego Sports Medicine by Kaiser to get physical therapy for a sports-related shoulder injury. He was experiencing discomfort and one of his shoulders was visibly displaced. The practitioner gave him a few exercises, but nothing to help him remember them. No exit paperwork! The guy also diminished my son's discomfort with a comment along the lines of, "You're fine. So why are you really here?" My son felt like the appointment was useless and the practitioner was rude. If someone takes the time to seek out help for an injury, the least they could expect is compassion! When my son got home he tried looking up the exercises on YouTube, but couldn't remember what he was supposed to do. In contrast, I also had a shoulder injury around the same time, and fortunately was referred to a different clinic. My care team which included a PT and an assistant, took me through all their suggested exercises, gave me time to practice each one with them, provided a printout of the exercises, AND set me up with a web portal with unlimited and forever access that has videos of people doing the recommended exercises, and an interactive program that prompts me to click each exercise as I finish during my independant PT practice sessions. I feel empowered and supported to continue strengthening my weakness on my own. This is how it should be! A PT patient shouldn't be sent off without some way to practice on their own. Very few people are apt to remember something they're shown only once. Shop around! There are way better clinics in San Diego!
HORRIBLE service and the billing department is completely unknowledgeable and rude. Nobody does what it takes the help the patient. They sent me in circles trying to get the right phone number and ultimately I was never helped. It's the patient's right to get their own information and documents from visits. This should not be this hard! I will never be back and you shouldn't go either - it's not worth it.
I appreciate Dr Anderson. I'm frustrated with the miscommunication. I live in Huntington Beach and drove 2 hours to see Dr Anderson to review my test results and refill prescriptions. I was very clear with his assistant about who to send the refill to. We went online to verify the location and phone number. I was assured the prescription would be sent. On my way out I double checked with the front desk and again assured it was completed. My pharmacy did not get the prescription. After spending 40 minutes on the phone I was told refills are only available through their portal. Fair enough. I'm going to opt out of that process. I'm completely out of prescriptions so I asked for a temp refill until I could find another Dr. The office Manager DENIED my request, stating all prescriptions must be ordered through their portal. No exceptions! I'm surprised after a 10 year relationship it comes down to follow the protocol or beat it! No more 2 hour drives.
It is impossible to get through to a human being. It is akin to calling one's insurance company. I was on hold for nearly 20 minutes, had to hang up, called again later. Same thing, on hold for almost 20 minutes. A mechanical voice repeatedly lists every doctor's name and all the locations. When someone finally answered, I stated that another one of my physicians had spoken with Dr x in this practice who had instructed me to call and make an appointment. The receptionist refused to make an appointment because it was "required" that I fill out the paperwork on their website, it would be reviewed by staff, and someone would call me back to schedule. It would have been helpful if the recording had directed me to do that. It would have saved me time on hold. And for the record, I filled out all of the online paperwork days ago, and no one has called me to arrange an appointment. It doesn't leave me feeling optimistic.
They are good primary care physicians, they just need to get better at knowing when to send your to specialist, especially when treatments not working or getting better! As far as there urgent care was extremely disappointed in care. Hope this helps others not trying to bad mouth them cause they aren't bad and the nurses have been great!
If you want real medical care, do not come here. We've been coming here for years, however, today was the final straw. Wife and child both went to see the dr. for sore throats and possible strep throat infections. Both masked up but because they had sore throats were not allowed to be treated out of fear of COVID. Understandable so they did a virtual visit. The Nurse Practitioner (Tess I believe) made a diagnosis of strep for both my wife and son. Over a video call. Do you know how you diagnose strep? With a throat swab and rapid test or culture. That's really the only way you know for sure. Lots of things can look like strep. They came home and we called again asking for a throat swab to confirm. The receptionist said sure, come by and they can swab them while in the car. So they went back and waited in the car for almost an hour before the receptionist said the NP refused to order the test. No reason why! Maybe she didn't want to be challenged. Unbelievable!! She wanted to prescribe antibiotics but had no confirmation they needed them. They went to another urgent care and guess what? 100% not strep for either of them. So the NP at San Diego Sports Medicine in Pacific Beach just did a shot in the dark, not caring what my family really had. I'm disgusted at this place and will not be coming back. If you care about your health, then go to another urgent care - this one doesn't care about yours.
This morning they refused to see my 24 year old son for a severe sore throat because that is a symptom of Covid! It's a symptom of a lot of other things too! Another clinic was more than empathetic and diagnosed him with severe strep! That doctor didn't know how he was even standing let alone driving! I can not believe an urgent care office would turn away a patient in obvious distress because they have a single Covid symptom! That is malpractice, not to mention terrible customer service.
Came in for a broken hand, saw different Doctors for all for visits with the "ok" . Came in for my 8 week to say I need to see a specialist. So basically wasted my time and money for 2 months. Then finally comes time to pay and the pricing keeps going up from the original 190$ per visit to 380 per visit for being "moderate" (just to tell me to see said specialist. Called about the bill of an additional 500 on top of the 190X4 to find out they calculated wrong and found and extra 200 I owe. To re cap put me through a nearly 1800$ visits to which ended in me seeing a specialist (who was much more affordable). In all save your money and if you can schedule with a normal Dr. Definitely don't do follow ups here if you need Urgent care. Also to add this was all with insurance
Worst experience in my life!! The staff instead of being helpful was just plain rude, never had this kind of service in my entire life! So disappointed i will never come back! Awful service
Maybe the other doctors are good but NOT Ken Anderson. Ken Anderson saw me for five minutes and charged me $270. He labelled it "urgent care" so he can charge that much. It was not urgent at all. I called ahead of time and they told me to walk over. In my opinion, this is fraudulent activity. The office told me it would only be $55. The $270 bill came over a month later in the mail. Oh by the way, for that five minutes, he literally gave me a script and told me to apply ice. Yes, I paid $270 to be given a script and told "apply ice". So before you visit, ask yourself, do you want to be Ken Anderson's cash machine? If so, walk right on in! Please if you have any questions, reach out to me on social media or anywhere else. I am more than happy to talk about my extremely bad experience with this doctor.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
