Alexander Malekzadeh's Online Review Report Card

While I was referred by a friend who really loves Dr. Malekzadeh, I would rate him just mediocre. I agree with the other reviewer that his bedside manner is a bit lacking/awkward. He was very short in his responses to me when I would reach out via email, which felt impersonal, and comes off like he doesnt have time to address my concerns. In person, he is better. He would switch my medication without very clear explanation (to me, anyway) of why he was doing so. I think (at the time of this review) he is the head of the psychiatry dept at Kaiser Oakland, and because of that, if you know how to advocate for yourself, going through him may be a route to getting services that you need, assuming what you need even exists at Kaiser.

Dr. Malekzadeh is very responsive, patient, helpful, and insightful. He takes many factors into careful consideration, and understands the complexity of my diagnosis and treatment plan. He also helped to normalize some of the scarier symptoms I have experienced, as being part of the disease. He usually responds right away whenever I have questions.

Very sharp guy, very helpful. I find him empathic and clear. His diagnosis is right out of the book, and that is refreshing compared to therapy, which, while great, is a bit more muddled. He is very professional and perceptive.

My standards for psychiatrists are pretty low at this point. I don't have anything remarkably bad to say about this doctor. He is your typical condescending, overly westernized, non-client centered psychiatrist. His bed side manner and awkwardness might be more upsetting than paying out of pocket for somebody else. Rapport and empathy are important in this exchange and you probably aren't going to get that here.
