Alvin Wong's Online Review Report Card

Since people have asked, I will give very specific examples that happened while I was in his office:Example 1: Me: I dont know why, but Ive been very thirsty lately. I have very bad dry mouth. Alvin Wong: Then drink more waterMe: But I have problems needing to go to the bathroom all the time if I drink moreAlvin Wong: Then drink less waterReal problem: I was prediabetic. The dry mouth symptom and frequent urination are key symptoms he should know as a doctorExample 2: Me: Ive been having problems thinking lately. I feel like I have mental fogAlvin Wong: Thats because youre getting old.Real problem: I had a severe food allergy that resulted in brain fog. I was 37 years old when he told me I was getting oldExample 3: Me: I need blood tests done. Im concerned that somethings wrongAlvin Wong: NoMe: I insist. I want to see my numbersAlvin Wong: No. I refuse to order tests. Its unnecessaryMe: I need them. Alvin Wong: No. I will not order them.Real issue: a combination of being prediabetic + hyperthyroid. My endocrinologist (who I had to demand to get a referral to) ran the tests for me. Example 4: Me: Ive had lower back pain for a while now and dont know what its aboutAlvin Wong: well, just rub it once in a while and if the pain gets bad then take an aspirin or tylenol. Real issue: food allergy that was causing inflammation in my lower back. It was the same food allergy that was causing the mental fog.Keep in mind, Ive had seen Alvin Wong for many years. Thank god I was relatively healthy. Once I started getting sick, the deficiencies of his medical knowledge could have had serious consequences and damn near killed me (allergies). He frankly just doesnt care. Stay away. Hes only a great doctor if you dont get sick OR if you know exactly what you need from the medical system. He has never proactively referred me to a specialist; I had to ask him for every single referral.

I have been Dr Wongs patient for over 20 years.  The staffs there have always been nice.  Dr Wong is very patient during office visits.  No rushing.  He takes his time to explain to me when I have questions.  When I got sick in the past, NP contacted me right away.  Most of his patients have been w him for very long time.

So Ive spent the last few months learning about health. The more I learn about it, the angrier I am and the more I feel betrayed by Dr. Wong. Hes definitely a blame the victim sort of guy or perhaps just a take two aspirin and if you dont get better, tough.This is a doctor who is popular because he is genial and it seems most of his patients speak primarily Cantonese. If you seriously feel like something is wrong and desperately want to get better, he is NOT the doctor to see; he wont help and doesnt really know where to turn.I should have been sent to a neurologist and a cardiologist. ANY specialist I have ever seen I had to specifically request (i.e. endocrinologist), meaning that if I didnt have an inkling what was wrong, I was SOL.The biggest positive I can say about the clinic is that the assistants/ nurse actually want to help patients. The doctor, not so much.

Let me start off by saying that I had been a patient for over 15 years. Hes fantastic, as long as you dont get sick. Pros: hes friendly, always smiling. If your lab tests come back abnormal, he refers you to a specialist, like an obgyn. Cons: if theres anything thats tangential to his domain, he completely dismisses your concern. Example: I came in saying that I had begun having memory problems, couldnt sleep at night and had a fuzzy head.  He dismissed my concern by saying that it was because I was getting old. Im in my late 30s, btw. It turned out that I had a thyroid condition coupled with depression. When I asked for a referral for a psychiatrist, psychologist, or therapist, he dismissed it by saying that I didnt need a referral and wasnt going to recommend one. A few years ago I went to him because I was urinating very frequently. His recommendation was to not drink so many fluids (I was getting 46 cups/day). BTW, frequent urination is one of the symptoms of diabetes. That never came up. It turns out that I was in danger of getting prediabetes. As for the fuzzy head and insomnia? It turns out I had a severe food allergy. If you dont get sick a lot, hes great. If you might get sick or if you prefer a doctor with a more holistic approach, Id look elsewhere.

I was looking for a primary doctor when my old one passed and I didnt have a physical f or over 10 years.  An old Co worker referred me to Dr. Wong.  First couple of annual physicals were routine, ask about family history, very detailed.  When you get to 50, the first colon exam referral.  Guest when you get older, there are more parts that can go wrong, but that was a ok.  Had a lingering cold which I did not see him, but called and the referral for OTC meds was right on the spot.  Yes, its leave a voicemail and call back in a few hours by his NP.  I like them, still trying to lower my cholesterol, took vitamins before, lowered it, stop taking them, went up.  Lost 20 pounds by not eating potatoes,  breads and rice, back to eating that stuff, up 20 pounds.  Time to start my eating modifications before my next physical.

Dr. Wong is a good doctor.  He has been my PCP for many years.  Ive never had a problem getting an appointment, and when I do get to see him, he is patient and takes his time finding out about my issue, then explains my options whether it be a specialist or whatever.  I also find the office staff very friendly, efficient and accommodating. When I call for an appointment, I do get the answering machine, but I always receive a call back promptly.  Once at the appointment, I never wait more than 510 minutes.  Ive been very satisfied with Dr. Wong.

I have been a patient of Dr. Wong for a very long time, at least 12 years.  Dr. Wong is very personable and always take the time to explain the situation.  When he is not sure, he has no problem referring me to a specialist.  Also, my jobs requires a lot of written forms signed by Dr. Man and not once have there been a problem  Thank you Dr. Wong.  He is a very busy man so if it is not urgent, expect the next available appointment date to be in over a month.  Also, the other reviews were right, the phone is never answered by the staff.  You MUST leave a message.  The great thing is that I found it is ALWAYS returned within an hour.

I feel so happy that I found Dr. Wong!  He always take time with me.  I never feel rushed.  I would say that he is like family, but he is better than my family.  Now my 18 year old son is also going to him.Thank you, Dr. Wong!

Whoever gave this MD a 5star review must be getting paid to do it. This doctor is a piece of work! Dont bother even trying to get him as your PCP. I called Dr. Wongs office because I needed a new MD and I wanted to switch from Hill Physicians to Brown & Toland. According to Dr. Wongs staff, he was accepting patients only through a recommendation. I gave the name of the person who recommended me and they accepted me as a new patient. I promptly made my first appointment in order to meet Dr Wong and give him background on my chronic back pain.Two weeks later, an hour before my scheduled appointment (and after I already got my new insurance cards in the mail) I get a call from Dr Wongs office telling me that he refuses to take me on as a new patient because he does not treat chronic back pain and will not give medicine for painand is not a workers comp physician. Excuse me? And he just now figured this out? And who the heck mentioned workers comp? Not me, I havent had a workers comp injury for my back in nearly 15 years. All I wanted was to meet this idiot, not arrange for pain meds!!! And they are going to call me 1 HOUR before my appointment?So this doctor will treat every other ailment under the sun except for back pain?? Are you kidding me? More like he assumed I was looking for a workers comp MD to handle some soontoarrive workers comp claim. WTF?Thanks to him and his staff, I have had to switch back to Hill physician and sinc they only make changes at the first of the month...I am literally without a medical group until next month. I sure hope I dont need a doctor over the next few weeks...he totally screwed me on that front. Stay away from this unprofesional office and quack of a doctor. He isnt worth the time spent calling!!!

Dr. Wong is the doctors, doctor. I too am a doctor and not only do I see him, but now my son also sees him. The both of us are thrilled with him. He is kind, thorough, and caring. He always spends plenty of time with us. Thank you for being our doctor! Richard D. Diamond, DDS
