Barbara Bishop's Online Review Report Card

I rarely write negative reviews but I am haunted by my bad experience with Barbara Bishop. She was cold and curt with me in the exam. She told me I had to get on statins without any discussion of diet or exercise. She ordered blood tests that were only supposed to be preventative. I got the bill from my insurance for 2,000.00 as non of the tests were covered. I spent hours on the phone with the insurance company and the lab. They said it all came down to how Barbara Bishop coded the lab forms. I called and called the office. No one would help me. I ended up just paying the bill and i deeply resent how i was treated thru this entire process. Strongly do not recommend anyone go to Dr. Barbara Bishop.

Dr. Bishop is my new PCP and I couldn't be happier. She is considerate, caring, and a good listener. The office staff are efficient and friendly. Very happy with my care.

I've seen Bishop twice and both times I felt she came off as the kind of practitioner that can't be bothered to discuss details with her patients. She seems aloof and out of touch. I don't recommend her.

Dr. Bishop is fully engaged, forthright, highly competent, well-rounded efficient and communicative. I am delighted with her, the office well attended and responsive. Good healthcare is not a personality contest; she's been perfect in her depth and breath of knowledge and proactive in her caring.

Dr, Bishop was a very good doctor. She was very much concern with her patient's needs regarding medical issues & she was also very accommodating.

Wow, I don't know what hospital these angry people were at. I have CFIDS, incurable for 2 decades. I've seen her for 10 years. What Dr. B lacks in being proactive with my CFIDS she makes up for in willingness to help me do whatever I need to improve my quality of life. She's not a CFIDS specialist but always has been supportive, helpful, and unquestioning knowing that I've done my research in terms of what I want to try for my health. What I find totally interesting is that I talk to someone every time I call, I feel that the staff is supportive and friendly (not my best friends for gods sake) and have always done their best to assist me. Is it a perfect clinic? Hell no, show me one that is. I think I know something that these 1x visitors don't know: if you don't take full responsibility for your healing, do research, take a positive attitude, and be proactive then blaming the doctor for not curing you is YOUR FAULT. I've seen doctor Bishop 4-5x a year for 10 years; while she's not my primary care doc for my CFIDS she was the first physician to not tell me it was 'all in my head'. Also, I think you'll see that most of these reviews are 3-5 years old and I think things have changed in the clinic. Is it like most hospital doctor offices? Overworked, too many patients, and not solving every single health problem? Yep. Are they god? Nope. Show up, suit up, take responsibility for your health and STOP WHINING - I've had a chronic exhaustive condition for 20 years and I greet life with gratitude ....

I saw Dr. Bishop for about 2 years as part of my PPO. She always seemed indifferent to me, but I was only there for a physical and it was close to home so I didn't mind. At my last visit, she told me I didn't even need to disrobe since I looked fine, and I probably didn't even need mammos or other tests except on a 2 year cycle. 2 months later I was diagnosed at St. Luke's with a terminal illness (still ALIVE! and not because of her) , and she happened to be in the ER when I came in so was active in my treatment as the Primary MD. When she finally come into my room to tell me the diagnosis, she stood by the window and wouldn't even sit by the bed and look me in the eye. The illness was not preventable by OB/GYN care, but she should have caught it earlier with a simple blood test or proper exam. It has taken me a long time to be calm enough to write this review but curiously I also have 2 other friends who had the same bad medical care experiences with her. She doesn't seem to pay the slightest attention. Find a different doctor.

She let me wait in the dirtiest examination room I have ever seen for at least half an hour, dismissed my remark about the dirt with a shrug and did not show any interest in my health at all. (yearly examination - she inherited me from my retired practitioner), I will never go there again and cannot recommend her to anybody!

I saw her for the first (and only) time - the front desk told me I was her only patient of the day. I thought "cool"....can't wait to meet her. Because my original PCP was no longer there, I chose this MD and I was looking forward to her reviewing my chart and following up on my various medical conditions. She walked in, barely cracked a smile, looked at me and seemed to be going through my chart (I could tell she didn't even skim it before seeing me). I too am a health provider and so I know the drill.I started to share my concerns and she didn't engage with me. I told her I was not very good on following up with my calcium pills and she lectured me. Not the kind of provider I need....please! There were other avenues she could've taken but no...went straight to the lecture.To top it off...her cell phone rings during my visit and she actually told the person "hold on...I'm almost done." I wanted to walk out at that moment. What a waste of my time.

Dr. Bishop is a good doctor. I have been seeing her off and on since 1992. She is very attentive and experienced. She has also studied alternative medicine, so she is extremely helpful in suggesting options other than traditional medicine. The sad thing is her front office staff is very slow, on a good day. Also, it is extremely difficult to get through their phone system. When (and if) you finally do talk with a live person, it is almost impossible to get an appointment with her. When you finally do get an appointment, it is usually for months in advance. Now I have Kaiser and a different doctor. I wish I could see Dr. Bishop, but if I ever have an emergency, I want to be able to talk to my doctor, not the front desk voicemail. My Kaiser doctor responds right away and I can communicate with her via email. I feel taken care of. I didn't feel that with Dr. Bishop's office and Dr. Bishop seems way too busy when she is able to see me.Update: Recently went to Dr. Bishop's office after not having Kaiser for a couple of months. Her billing department is awful, they mess up the insurance invoicing and charge you for a visit that they originally swore was covered by insurance. When you talk with the billing department (Marissa?) about how I was already told that the insurance would cover the visit or I would have never scheduled it, Marissa's response is "that isn't my problem and you have to pay the bill or you're going to collections". Awful.
