Charles Allison's Online Review Report Card

been going to dr Allison for about 10 years. find him thorough. love that he is a teaching dr and often has others during examination. (tho not during covid). recently broke my wrist and his staff were very helpful and arranging next day appointment with specialist.

Dr. Allison LISTENS! Explains everything, very patient, puts me at ease, and his treatment for whatever ails me always works. Overall very nice man, and an excellent doctor!

I’ve been a patient of Dr Allison for over 6 years, and honestly I feel he’s one of the best physicians I’ve been lucky to have encountered. He has seen me through typical older adult issues with care and compassion, and fortunately for me, is caring for me for a completely unexpected and devastating ( for me) Breast Cancer diagnosis . To be clear , everyone who gets a cancer diagnosis is shell shocked , but I literally never once suspected , worried, have a family history, no signposts . Oh let me mention I’ve been a nurse for 38 years , so it’s not as if I’m completely on a different bandwidth than someone who has a amazing , dream SF job ( I do love my job) , so one would think I’d have a higher suspicion index. Dr Allison actually broke the news to be , reached out 4x during his insanely busy work day . I work nights, my phone was off, and frankly in the waiting time between testing and diagnosis , I had convinced myself that through conflicting information, friends , ect that it was a cyst . I woke up to 4 missed phone calls starting with Dr Allison in his kind midwestern accent leaving general message that he’d like to discuss my biopsy with me , to messages increasing in concern , but not frightening. I somehow knew before I called him back, and his compassion , directness , was exactly how I needed to hear such terrible news. He’s also treated me as I said for much less serious events . All I can say is in 6 years I have never had an interaction with him that was anything less than professional, and kind . And this is a person with a big job, who has many years of valuable experience, and frankly I’ve never encountered him having a bad day that I as a patient or a fellow human being could recognize. That in itself is laudable. Who among us has not had a day at work no matter what we do where we might not be our best selves ? To me, this is an indicator of professionalism , and personal charector:

Dr. Allison is garbage. Maybe he’s just tired of his profession or just there to cash the bucks? He’s very dismissive and insulting. I tell him that I have pain in my breast and it felt a lot like when I had mastitis and his response was “how old is your baby” and I tell him she’s 10 months and he asks me if I don’t think that’s too old to be nursing a baby. I only know the feeling because I have six children and I’ve gotten them. He tells me it’s probably related to the pain I have on my sternum and ribs. I asked him if it will cause me to have chills and he’s response was you’re probably getting a cold. I came from East bay and my husband and I really love doctor Yoss. It’s why I was even there, but he was on vacation. All the issues I have he just know it’s nothing and was very rude about it and at the end of my appointment he tells me do you have anything else to add to your long list. Just very arrogant and not caring at all. Just could not imagine anybody actually stayed with this guy. He had a need student from Pakistan following him around too so maybe he was trying to be a know it all?? I don’t know but never again.

He is such a caring and astute man. A real doctor, he doesn't hide behind a computer. Dr. Allison helped me through some difficult years, I appreciate and respect his expertise.

Dr. Allison has been my GP since 2005.... He is great at explaining whatever ailment you may have and is great at making you feel comfortable in his presence....I have since moved from SF to the east bay, but still use him.  He is great at getting back in touch with you if you require follow up.I would recommend him to anyone

Dr Allison seems to be a nice guy- I wouldn't mind having a beer with him, and he has been good about taking time to explain things at appointments and not making me feel rushed.However, as a doctor he has some serious flaws and is out of touch with medicine today (IMO, obviously)If want things coded improperlyIf you do not want to be able to email your doctorIf you don't like electronic medical recordsIf you want to be sent to improper labs for your yearly wellness visit (on your dime!)If you don't like to be notified of your test resultsIf you like having to leave a phone message to get a hold of himwell, then, he's your guy.Also, He's in the Saint Mary's medical center, which is owned by Dignity Health. The markup on services  provided by them is 5-10x over fair cost. Good luck communicating with them or negotiating a fair amount, their entire corporate structure is designed to prevent you from negotiating with them- no wonder they're making records profits.So, I recommend you avoid at all costs if your money and sanity are of value to you.
