List of Gary Birnbaum's Reviews
everything takes a long time, Doctor is good but customer service is not that good. Youll stay easily 30 mins waiting for an answer on the phone, and they care less about it.
I greatly miss Dr. Bs intelligence, warmth, concern and wisdom since we moved away from SF in 2013. I certainly havent found that quality of brilliance here in Portland, Oregon. Over a period of 23 years, Dr. Birnbaum solved a variety of family mysteries for us, from curing our young sons bedwetting in 30 days, to solving my semialdosterone problem that probably caused the unreasonably high blood pressure and early heart attacks that plagued my birth family. The man listens and can think. He doesnt just go through the usual superficial paces. Hes truly exceptional, and Im sad that I cant find anyone like him here. You are lucky that you live in San Francisco, where you can find talent like this.

Just a head up...This Gerentologist does not accept medicare! Who uses a gerentologist...?
Doctor Gary Birnbaum is one of those rare physicians that care to know you and treat you... He has cared for my father for more than 15 years and I have seen him deal with delicate situations with care and sensitivity. For me I am very lucky to have his insight and he has made me healthier and aware of my health from my first visit!
Dr. Birnbaum is extremely rude and a horrible doctor! Every time I take my mother in there all he does is talk about her meds and weve waited hours to even be seen by him. He never asks her how shes doing and every time she attempts to say something to him, he puts his hand up and says wait a minute and she never gets her questions answered. A visit we had about a month ago, towards the end he said, I think were done and I said no were not, theres something I would like to discuss with you. And yells and says, yes we are done! Ive been in here with you guys over an hour and I have other patients to see! I could not believe my ears!!!! So he realized what he said and finally discussed the other issue. So I took my mother for a follow up visit yesterday and he yelled at her for taking 2 of the same meds that HE prescribed to her, which was causing her to throw up, due to HIS MISTAKE!! So basically he had been over medicating her!! Then he requested that she gets lab work done downstairs. Once we got down there, we looked through the stack of papers he handed us and the lab slip was not even in there!!! We had to go back up to the office, mind you my mothers in a wheelchair! By this time Im in fumes!Hes constantly yelling and cursing (which to me is very disrespectful to my elderly mother) at is laptop because he dont know what hes doing. When he walked in the room yesterday morning his rude a** didnt even speak, he takes personal phone calls during her visits with him and then step out the room as if we have all day to be in there. Theres signs all over that says no cel phones, so I believe he should reciprocate the same respect.I am so over this man. I dont know what his problem is. It seems like something outside of his practice is consuming him and he has lost sight of his career or he is overwhelmed with patients because that place is ran pretty much like a free clinic. My mother has been seeing him every since they were on San Bruno Ave. Shes been seeing him for over 30 years and she deserves far better treatment than that. Yesterday was her last visit with him. I will be finding her a new doctor. I dont recommend anyone seeing him.
Both brilliant and caring, he has been our familys doctor for more than 20 years. He transformed our family dynamic 22 years ago by instantly curing our son of bedwetting. He has helped our family of four through every kind of change and transition ever since, including guiding my kids as they became adults, and traveled internationally. He diagnosed and manages my thyroid condition. More important, he unraveled the (preventable) chemical mystery of why most of my family have died so young. Im now in my sixties. Ive lost my three sisters and parents but at least I am robustly healthy and most people think Im much younger. I am deeply grateful for Dr. Birnbaums fine care, intellectual curiosity and pride in his practice,
Ive been a patient at Bay West Family Heatlh Care for 15 years, and Gary Birnbaums been my doctor for about six years. I completely trust the care I receive from him, not to mention the great patientdoctor relationship we have. The specialist referrals I get from him are also awesome. The office runs very smoothly. The staff are great and have been there for a long time (not a lot of turnover), which must mean that they like working there and are treated well.
I just adore the man. Hes a straight talker with a sympatheic ear. Most of all, I trust him.Jon Thomson
Gary Birnbaum is an incredible doctor. He is very well informed and is there to help you out immediately. His diagnoses are always on target and his medical knowledge is impressive. I would recommend him to my friends in a NY second.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
