Best doctor in the Bay Area. Would recommend

Review is for the office receptionist. I called to make an appointment and she said there were no appointments available today (Tuesday) and only had Thursday. I told her Thursday was perfectly fine with me but she gave me attitude and said Tuesday was not available and immediately hung up. So rude and unprofessional.

Dr. Murphy has been my primary care doctor for 3 years. He takes the time to listen and address and explain concerns, etc. I have never felt rushed.  He is friendly and has a sense of humor. The practice is small with a calm atmosphere. I can only recommend him.

I have been seeing Dr. Murphy for over 10 years, and he has been instrumental in guiding me through the ups and downs of my Type 2 Diabetes.   Dr. Murphy still provides old school patient care.  I never feel rushed and I always feel heard.  He willingly answers all my questions, explains my lab results so that I can understand them and his approach to my treatment plan is thorough and thoughtful. I consider myself lucky to have Dr. Murphy as my Primary Care Physician.  His management of my disease and my lack of complications is a testament to his ability.

HA HA!  Seems someone has collared YELP and made it a lap dog!  JOHANs negative review has disappeared as has mine yet some MDs have up to 48 reviews!

I wasnt going to review BUT these glowing reviews have inspired me.  Seems previous negative ones have been expunged!  I have found him well intentioned, well compensated, BUT ill informed in my particular case.  I was prescribed GLYBURIDE to lower blood sugar in 2004.  By July 2006 my blood sugar was down to an A1C of 7 great.  In September 2006 I tried to play some tennis and it was found my LAD artery was 99% clogged.  DID GLYBURIDE DO IT?  I WILL NEVER KNOW FOR SURE!  But I have found numerous studies and books suggesting it might have.  A couple PUB MED studys by anesthesiologists using dogs have pretreated them with GLYBURIDE and in one the blood flow thru the LAD artery decreased about 50%; in the other the blood flow only got back to 70% (GOOGLE GLYBURIDE LAD).  Another study, retrospective at the Cleveland Clinic, of some 23000 persons found GLYBURIDE and GLIPIZIDE associtated with about 40% more deaths than METFORMIN.  Some authors/MDs have stated that they NEVER prescribe GLYBURIDE in particular and another that he NEVER in 40 years has prescribed any OHA (Oral Hypoglycemic Agent).  A TYPE I diabetic engineer turned MD says sulfonylureas like GLYBURIDE decrease the circulation in the heart and lead to more heart attacks and cancer!  I didnt see the prior reviews by Johan!

Hands down BEST Doctor.  He takes his time with his patients and he always acoomodates an emergency visit.

I had appendicitis about 6 months ago. When I woke up in extreme pain I went to a CPMC emergency room near my house, and was told by the doctor that I had gastroenteritis and was sent home, still in pain.The next day I went to see Dr. Murphy, my Primary Care Physician. Dr. Murphy carefully asked me questions about where my pain was. He spent a lot more time trying to decipher whether or not I had appendicitis, compared with the ER doctor. And in the end, it was Dr. Murphy that figured out what my problem was and sent me for a CAT scan to confirm.The next day after surgery, which happened to be a Wednesday (the day his office is closed), Dr. Murphy visited me in my hospital room to check up on me, which I also really appreciated.I have visited Dr. Murphy for several other issues in the past, and have always felt that he listened to me and that he did not rush to a diagnosis, but rather asked questions and took time to really understand.I am so happy to have Dr. Murphy as my Primary Care Physician.

My elderly aunt is a patient of Dr. Murphys. He is the first doctor she has seen in years and she has some severe health problems. Dr. Murphy has been ready to devote extra time, including fitting her into a fully booked afternoon when she was not responding to prescribed medication. He took the time to carefully listen to her comments about her symptoms and to be sure he understood what she was trying to say.He has also been very helpful about taking feedback on her progress and talking on the phone about her case.

The prior reviewe by Johan is exceedingly unfair. My experience is far differerent.My elderly and disabled mother is a patient. Dr.Murphy called me after hours and spent a lot of time diuscussing her problems with me. He does not get paid by Medicare for providing such service. I rate him highly as a dedicated physician.As for Johans complaints, it is not unusual to have to wait for any doctor. They cannot predict how long patients will take, neither do they know in advance when pateints present with emergencies.  I would be more worried about doctors who dont make you wait it might be a sign they are not really taking tiome to hear the patient and question the patient carefully.So far as delicate Johans sensibilities go, whileI am sure hearing about another patients gastric problems is unpleasant, it is a concern better addressed to the building architect. Otherwise, Johan could show a little tolerance for someone elses problems.
