Worst experience with a doctor in 35 years. Completely non responsive. Did return phone calls. I would never have him as my PCP. Will report my experience to insurance company that suggested him.
Wanted to write a review for Dr. Fong as I feel he gets unfairly rated due to a mistake on their own lack of knowledge in the medical/insurance industry. Early on when you select medical coverage you can choose a PCP. If you dont take the initiative on this, well then you just get automatically assigned. Lets be clear here, Dr. Fong is a nephrology specialist. He serves as a Primary Car Physician for patients with chronic kidney failure. He does NOT accept patients that dont fall into this category and also is the only person that works in his office. That means he had no secretary, no front desk assistant, no medical assistant. Just full on Dr. to patient care here. My grandfather has been going to see Dr. Fong for many years now and when it comes to understanding, diagnosing, and treating kidney failure, he has been outstanding in helping my family. He has educated us on what the disease entails, what treatment options my grandfather has (he is 85 years old and this drastically changes the way his disease is treated) and is always available to us via phone or text message. He has a quirky personality but once you get to know him youll really be able to appreciate it. Moral of this review:1) DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE SELECTING A DOCTOR!!!!!! (This should be selfexplanatory and standard practice)2) Dr. Fong is an amazing Nephrologist and will likely treat you better if you come to him as a referral from your ACTUAL primary care physician.
Terrible, awful and rude!
I work for a large tech company and when I signed up for health insurance several months ago, I signed up for Dr. Fong listed as my PCP (primary care physician).Fast forward a couple of months and I pull a muscle in my back running with my dog. Essentially Im bedridden and cannot move. I called Dr. Fong to make an appointment and leave a call back number. I get a call back several minutes later sayingHow did you get this number? Dr. Fong rudely asksIts on the front of my health insurance card and youre listed as my PCPWere not accepting new patients at this timeOk. Im not a new patient because I listed you as my PCP when I signed up for comprehensive health insuranceWere not accepting new patients at this time. SorryDo you have any suggestions on how to proceed? Id really like to see someone and Cigna just told me that I cant make an appointment to see anyone but my PCPSorry were not accepting new patients at this time*HangupWell, I never did manage to make an appointment to see him. I was appalled by his lack of empathy and not even taking the time to point me in the right direction to sort out the issue. From this brief interaction I can already infer that he wouldnt have the characteristics that I would like in a doctor empathy, patience, care.
Dr. Hanlon Fong is, unfortunately, my WORST doctor Ive ever seen. Hes not able to explain and clarify my lab test result to me, and literally told me: Youre an engineer, go search Google to find out what this term means!. He refuses to release a copy of my personal lab test result to me even upon my explicit request. Instead, he asked me to look for another doctor. At both of my office visits, he appeared to be nervous, constantly interrupted our conversation to run out of our room to pick up phone calls. There isnt even a receptionist at the office!Im seeing another doctor, but it was a complete wasteof my time to see Dr. Fong.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
