Kenneth H Chang's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Chang is the PCP of my 87 year old grandpa for the past 20ish years, as my grandpa says. I accompanied my grandpa to his appointment today. I utilize Yelp a lot and I trust Yelp, but Dr. Chang deserves more positive reviews. Dr. Chang is a wonderful doctor, the epitome of the type of doctor you'd want your own grandpa to have. Our older generation tends to not trust medicine and thus avoids going to the doctor due to prior negative experiences they may have had. However, I know my grandpa looks forward to his appointments with Dr. Chang and trusts him fully. I did most of the talking as my grandpa is getting to a point in his life where he doesn't remember some things. I didn't feel rushed at all and Dr. Chang was always happy to further answer my myriad of questions. He spoke to my grandpa respectfully and compassionately, ensuring he understood every word he was saying, repeating if needed. When I or my grandpa spoke, he fully listened and was present through all of it. Working in healthcare as well, I appreciated this immensely because I know that patients often don't feel heard by their physician as finishing an appt according to schedule is most prioritized. Dr. Chang would also ask me if I had any other questions or concerns. I also was impressed by how Dr. Chang takes vitals. There was a vital signs machine in the room but instead, Dr. Chang used a manual blood pressure cuff, which is the ideal way to accurately measure BP. He also manually measured my grandpa's pulse using his stethoscope and watching the clock on his wrist watch. I always appreciate measuring vitals manually so we don't lose our skills if a machine isn't available to do it for us. Dr. Chang reassured my grandpa that his vitals looked normal. He is caring, empathetic, and patient. Honestly by the reviews, I initially wasn't expecting such a kind doctor like Dr. Chang. I can tell he cares a lot for my grandpa. After we finished the appointment, my grandpa told me he was happy to see him. I want my grandpa to have the best care possible, so I am very grateful that Dr. Chang is his primary care provider.

Dr Chang is very nice and paid lot of time with every patient. The staffs very helpful and efficient.

Zero Stars for Professionalism and Patient Care. I had a similar experience as the above reviewer. I also had a relative who was a long time patient of Dr. Chang's. He was always on time for his schedule annual exams. Dr. Chang wasn't able to detect his "Stage 4" cancer. During his stage 4, I brought him to see Dr. Chang and he only prescribed him steroid anti-itch cream and send him to his affiliated Chinese Hospital and make him wait a month long for regular annual colonoscopy which is totally unrelated to his cancer subject. Glad my coworkers at work warn me to switch doctors at the last minute. So I took the relative to UCSF emergency. I told the doctors about Dr. Chang and they all shook their head. What a shame! Because we wasted time at Dr. Chang's office, the relative's cancer was already escalated to stage 4. He died 6 years ago. The relative "thank me" daily during his last 6 months because I brought him to UCSF which helps him to live for an additional 6 months. Also Dr. Chang is racist, each time when I bring the relative in. He asked if I know English. I think I can speak better English than him. Dr. Chang had a deep Hong Kongese accent. He also doesn't let the wife of the relative to go into the exam room. Beware of this Chinese Doctor who only cares about collecting Medicare Money from the seniors in San Francisco. I wonder if his medical skills are up to date???

Doctor chang is a very professional and friendly doctor. One month ago I fell down and had a hip surgery on a Saturday morning. Dr. chang is my family doctor. When he heard the information from the emergency room . he rushed to the hospital on the Saturday morning before the surgery . He check my health and subscribed the necessary medicine. He also discussed the surgery with the surgeon. What I didn't unexpected was he came to see me again in Sunday morning after the surgery! Besides , He arranged the nurse and physical therapist to take care me in my home after I came back home In general, he visit me three times in the weekend and gave me great help and comfort . Thank you Doctor Kenneth Chang !

one of my relatives have been his patient for more than 10 yrs. my relative died because of cancer. Chang did not discover the cancer at all. when the symptoms showed up, Chang refused to send my relative to the hospital to get an endoscopic; instead he just prescribed some stomach pills. be careful if you are having him as your family doc. pray the best for yourself. I am so sorry for my relative and he had died a month ago.
