M Cohen's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Cohen was incredibly knowledgeable and detailed in getting to know me as a patient, my symptoms, and goals of care. I've experienced other physicians who are very focused on getting to know the bare minimum while rushing through an initial appointment, however Dr. Cohen shows exceptional bedside manner and passion.

Dr. Cohen has been my Primary Physician for decades.  He is at the top of his Specialty  as a Primo Internist.  He never would hesitate to refer me to another Medical Doctor if my need was not within his expertise.  I moved to the South East after a lifetime in San Francisco and I will be eternally grateful that he is a major reason why I am a very active 80 plus year old gent.  Yes, Dr. Cohen you continue   to be an extraordinary Physician, a gentleman and I will always  consider you part of my extended Family.  J.P. At first Dr. Cohen was very nice and helpful. He has a wonderful bedside manor and seems knowledgable and has an extensive vocabulary in spite of his age (he's 80+).Unfortunately, Dr. Cohen suggested that my heart issues/symptoms (chest pain, extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, etc) were solely psychological and that I'm perfectly healthy. Not true. My symptoms are very real and I'm insulted that he would accuse a patient of making it up. He is refusing my request to see a cardiologist in spite of all my symptoms and in spite of the fact that my family has a history of heart disease. It's my body, and I want to see a cardiologist! I didn't go to a doctor to have him tell me I'm crazy! I'm trying to remedy my symptoms. Highly discourage anyone from seeing him as he only touches on surface-level issues.

I wish I lived in the city. I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Cohen last year. I was having back surgery at St Francis and was going to have to have a doctor for post-op care. I met with him twice before surgery for physicals etc. I was very fortunate that my surgeon recommended him. He gave me two very thorough physicals. (One surgery had been postponed for about six months.) I was in the hospital for six days and he was there bright and early every day. Very concerned with my health, how things were going and how the hospital was treating me. He's a very warm and fuzzy guy who really cares. Not that my surgeon didn't care, but definitely not the warm and fuzzy type like Dr. Cohen. I wont give his name. Dr. L. is a great surgeon and that's what counts. In fact everybody I met in the hospital says he would be there first choice. I guess that's what separates great doctors from great surgeons. Would love to keep Dr. Cohen as my doctor. Like I said, too bad I don't live closer.

A gentlemen who really wants to know his patients. His bedside manner is wonderful.

I have been a patient of Dr. Cohen for over 15 years and he is a professional. He is truely compassionate.  His assessment and dioagnostic skills are beyond reproach.  I would reccomend him to anyone and often do.  I feel very fortunate to have him as my doctor.

Dr. Cohen became my primary care physician in November 2009. I was 66 years old. He gave me a physical exam at that time and recommended a multi-vitamin for the fatigue I was having. For the reasons stated below, Dr. Cohen is no longer my doctor.In May 2008, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommended all persons over age 60 receive the shingles vaccine.The CDC press release stated anyone who has had chicken pox can get shingles, 95 percent of adults are at risk, and one-third of persons contracting shingles will develop serious complications. Despite the CDC recommendation, Dr. Cohen never advised me to get the shingles vaccine; nor did he even discuss the potential problem. I also had not  heard of the CDC recommendation, and in August 2012, I came down with shingles. Fortunately for me, my shingles wasn't serious, but I was sick for about four weeks. According to the CDC, the shingles vaccine would have reduced my chances of contracting shingles by 64%.When I asked Dr. Cohen why he had not recommended the shingles vaccine, he said that he only made the recommendation to patients when they came in for a visit. In other words, if you were his patient and had not seen him in awhile, you are on your own. And in my case, of course, I had seen him for my physical in 2009, over one year after the CDC shingles vaccine recommendation. In addiiton, I saw him in 2011 for a neurological problem that went undiagnosed.Based on my experience, I would not recommend Dr. Cohen to anyone. And although he advertises himself as a gerontologist, I particularly would not recommend him for patients over age 60 (when various diseases become more prevalent). Dr. Cohen also did not recommend that I receive the pneumonia vaccine, which is recommended for persons over age 65.Lastly, the fatigue that I had in 2009 may have been related to the coronary artery disease (CAD) for which I was diagnosed a few months ago and received angioplasty treatment. My recent symptoms of CAD also included fatigue (and lack of stamina), but were more severe than when I saw Dr. Cohen in 2009. Since CAD symptoms are sometimes difficult to diagnose, I'm not too critical of Dr. Cohen on this issue, but maybe a more thorough doctor, particularly one who advertises himself as a gerontologist, would have ordered the tests that led to my CAD diagnosis and treatment.

If you want a Doctor who is mainly interested in how much money he can make fromyou, this is the one for you.      When I went into the emergency room because I was having a heart attack, DR.Cohen told me he wanted to be sure I would be paying his bill [since I did not haveinsurance] before he treated me.

I found Dr. Cohen a few years ago here on Yelp. In my mid-20's, he was my first doctor I'd found "on my own."I'm no hypochondriac, however I do try to "listen" to my body. I'd see David just a few times a year and list off all the things I felt worth nothing, simply to be thorough with my doc. My favorite quality of his was not only that he'd listen to these, but he actually thought it was great that I was so proactive with my health. He's got a "concerned, charming grandfather" presence, and I always left with my ailments well-recognized.Dr. Cohen made me feel empowered, and this is what I'll miss most now that my company switched insurance carriers.

Dr. Cohen is absolutely amazing!  I've never had a doctor with such good bedside manners.  He spends time with you, explains things, is very "holistic" in his approach from the perspective of not just treating one symptom, but really taking in everything about you to best determine what the issue/solution might be.Fantastic!  It's obvious he cares about what he does and is passionate about doing it right.
