Megin Scully's Online Review Report Card

I had the most bizarre experience here seeing Dr Mattarasso. Staff was super friendly, but whilst waiting for Dr. Mattarasso to come see me he cracked the door open, looked me up and down, then promptly left. He came back in five minutes later and gruffly inquired why I was there. I let him know I had some concerns about what I thought was rosacea and was also interested in some units of Botox. He grabbed my chin, FLICKED my hat off with his finger, and said, "I can tell you right now that's extensive sun damage, not rosacea. And have you had botox before?" I said no. "Maybe some botox will help you with those uneven eyebrows," he replied.It made me chuckle, but it also made me concerned for his taste because everyone knows your eyebrows should be sisters, not twins, and I definitely got a bitter older queen vibe from this guy anyway. So it came down to him wanting to charge me over $60 per unit of Botox which is an outrageous price, considering any well rated esthetician in the bay area would do this generally for ~$25/unit (check out some of the places in Hayes Valley - they're great).When he quoted me this ridiculous price, I told him I'd pass and as I patted little ol' Mattarasso on the back I noticed his dandruff was out. of. con. trol. Imagine the scene from Joe versus the Volcano when Tom Hanks brushes the dandruff off Mr Waturi's shoulder. It was like that only twice as alarming when it's real life and not a movie.tl;dr - Nice staff, rude/weird doctor, don't trust a dermatologist that can't get their dandruff under control.

This review is for Dr. Megin Scully who is one of the best doctors that you will meet. I have had some trouble spots due to living in California and being exposed to the sun. She is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and I look forward to my appointments with her. She has an incredible memory and always asks the most thoughtful questions about my personal life and other things going on in my life. She is absolutely superb.

I love the Doctor but they have refereed me to a place in AZ. We'll see how that goes.

I have a mixed review of 3 doctors I have seen there. Clearly waiting is an issue so don't go there is you cannot deal with that. Dr. M can be quite inappropriate in some of the bizarre things he says, so it you want someone more conventional in manner he is not the best choice. He called me Jo-Jo which nobody in my life ever did because I don't like it.He has a picture frame with himself in it and it says, "It's all about me." That sums him up. I feel that picture belongs at home, or in an office where patients can't see it. He did tell me not to have a particular cosmetic procedure and explained why, which I appreciated because he could have done and taken the money for. Another time he saw me because I had an appointment with Dr. D, and she wasn't there, and I had concerns about something she had done and he frostily asked, "Why aren't you discussing that with her?"  I explained I thought I was seeing her that day but she was on vacation. Regarding her, she is sweet and will answer all your written down questions, but she gave me filler in 2 vertical lines on the sides of my mouth that turned dark blue. I have very white skin and Dr. M. said that can happen with my type of skin, and it may fade and may not. It took years and FINALLY it did, but I would never allow her to do that again. One other time I had 3 different things done on the same day and I kept asking Dr. D what order and what room we would do each but she was being cryptic and evasive which made me anxious. Another time Dr. H. was the only one who could see right away for a severe problem with a horrible painful rash and he did not seem to know what to do or to care that much. Another Dr. from another practice stepped in later because he said I was not being helped by his care. Of the 3, I would never see him again. From what I read here, Dr. S. sounds like the best choice and I would probably try her. The office staff and nurses are a mixed bag. Some are very nice and helpful and some are not. I have also had some billing issues with them. This practice has major problems, but some of the care is good.

I have never written a Yelp review before but feel so strongly that I must warn patients not to see Dr. Matarasso.  It was the very worst experience I've ever had with a doctor. It is unclear to me why the Dermatology Medical Group allows him to continue treating patients so badly.  I was referred to another doctor in the group but could only get an appointment with Dr. Matarasso.  He may be a decent dermatologist, but he is rude and inappropriate.  He has horrible bedside manner and made me feel very uncomfortable. I advise that you not see him and recommend that the practice take very seriously the way that he disrespects patients.

FABULOUS-- Is what Dr. M thinks of himself.   After waiting about an hour and a half, I got 10 minutes with him, in which he injected some things with absolutely NO visible results.  I was presented with a bill for nearly TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS.   I think Dr. M is used to working with shriveled society hags who are grateful for his paltry, tardy, narcissistic air kisses, and who don't mind being taken to the cleaners because they can afford it.  I'd suggest you not go unless you fit in to his demographic target.  Bitter? Maybe so.  See for yourself if you like, but I think you can find a) Better; b) Less Expensive; c) More Punctual; d) More Caring and interested in something beyond how much he can line his pockets.

I had an appointment to see Monica Dahlem for a consultation.  Monica showed up 55 minutes late.  They spent a total of 21 minutes with me - 13 minutes with Monica and 8 minutes with two medical assistants.  They rushed me in and out the first assistant would not even let me finish stating the reasons I wanted a consultation.   Monica shows up 55 minutes late then says she never makes people wait.  Time is money and my time and my money were wasted.  Incredulously Monica stated to me that I could have a sample skin test done at no charge to see the effect.  This is what I spent 6 minutes with one assistant doing.  I found out a few minute later it was not complimentary.  How on earth Monica could state such a BOLD FACE D LIE is beyond my comprehension.   In addition the chair in the reception area right by water cooler has a nail sticking out and it snagged my blazer so now I have a ruined blazer.  They charged me $202.50 for this 21 minute consultation.  No fee was ever mentioned at time I made appointment or at my arrival.  When I stated this to the receptionist she gave even more attitude than when I had arrived.  $100 would have been more than generours for the wasted time but $202.5 for what?  I got no information out of the consult.  Every question Monica said I do no not know or hard to tell or that is a godo question.  Well for $202.50 you better have answers.  You would think if they charge this much they owuld be timelt courteous and KNOWLEDGEABLE!The receptionist snarled at me when I asked if this is what is charged saying "normally we charge $225!"  I am to be grateful for being made to wait 55 minutes then rushed through without getting answers? What a break?  No way I was ripped off.    So I asked for a receipt.  In huffy tantrum she stormed off and got a piece of paper and wrote consult $202.50 on it.  Hardly a receipt.  It was just another example of the poor service and unprofessional behavior.  Even the literature they handed out to me had been mistyped.  If you are going to charge these kind of prices then this is what you do.  You treat the PAYING customer with professional courtesy.  You provide the service at the appointed time and give them the time they PAID FOR, $202.50 for 21 minutes is fraud.  You also provide the information they seek!  And you do not damage THEIR property.  There is no justification for that much money for nothing.  This consult costs far more than $202.5 in terms of stress and disgust and damage to my blazer.
