Dr. Chu and his wife ripped off patients money by charging them money illegally! They charged my grandma $500 for filling out some medical forms which only took them 20 minutes to do!! Ridiculous! This is the worst doctor I have ever met. Like one previous person said, I would give him a 0 of F is available. All he sees is how much money he can milk from the insurance. My 90+ year old mother who was in poor physical health had to make numerous office appointments with him just to go over blood test results that can be delivered over the phone. These blood tests are done after normal checkups. Appointments are never on time and always at least an hour late.Another example of his greed is that we had to pay him a lot of money in cash under the table just for him to expedite filling out some insurance medical forms. Otherwise these important form would have taken month for him to complete. He went to some medical school in China I never heard of and I guess that why the quality of service is the poorest. In contrast, my own doctor goes over my blood test results over the phone and does NOT have me make an appointment to go over the results so he can charge the insurance for an office visit. My doctor is Chinese and is a UCSF graduate.
I just had the most WTF experience going here. I picked Dr. Chu out of a list of doctors who took my insurance, because it was the closest to me. I called and made an appointment for the same day, which I was pretty excited about since I feel terrible. The girl on the phone told me to bring $70 cash just in case. I should have noticed that as a red flag.I walk over there and its in a little plaza of stores that sell little Hello Kitty trinkets, boba tea, a pharmacy, and a medical supply store. It was hard to find, and the elevator button for the floor hes on was broken, so I had to go to another floor and take the stairs.I found the office, and the door was locked. I was 15 minutes early for my appointment, and noticed they are out to lunch until the exact time my appointment was supposed to be. I waited in the hallway until someone came and unlocked the door.I was let in and sat down to do some paperwork, they took my insurance and ID, seemed pretty normal. I noticed that they had a big CASH ONLY sign which I thought was pretty strange. After a short wait the nurse/receptionist(?) led me to the scale and ruler. I asked if I should take off my shoes since they added a few inches to my height and pointed that out, and she said no. Ok...She then led me to a room full of medical records and a big desk. I waited while she filed folders around me. She informed me that they didnt give prescriptions on the first visit.Eventually Dr. Chu came in and asked me some basic questions, took my blood pressure, listened to my heart, etc. After a bit he led me to a room that looked more like a medical office rather than someones personal office. He checked my ears, looked in my mouth for about half a second before declaring that I had a throat infection. I didnt know whether to be impressed that he could see that so quickly or worried that he didnt really look. He wrote me a few prescriptions and asked if I was single or married. Then he asked when my last LMP was. I repeated LMP? and he said yes. I asked what that meant. He said when you last bleed from vagina? Errrr ... dont know what that has to do with a throat infection, but I answered the crudely phrased question. I thanked him and went on my way with my prescription.I went downstairs to the aforementioned pharmacy (Wellmans Pharmacy), they were very nice and filled my prescriptions quickly. It wasnt until I got home that I realized the cough medicine they gave me was OPEN and leaked all over the other medications. I wish I had looked him up on here before going ... I do not recommend this place at all!
This was the worst experience Ive ever had at a doctor I put that in quotations because I have serious doubts about this mans credentials. He barely speaks English and seems to have no idea what he is doing. You will get no medical care from this office; you will simply waste your time and your money. Ive already complained about him to Blue Cross Blue Shield; they need to take him off of their provider directory.
Dr. Chu has been my parents doctor for many years. Unfortunately, his office has very limited staffing unlike other professional doctor offices do. I visited him once 20 years ago but was misdiagnosed as I had sickle cell. I agree that he treats many low income patients like my parents; and he is doing the best he can as he is pretty old himself, which limits his availability and novel issues. I dont think he charges enough from most of his patients, as majority of his patients are on very limited coverage, to upgrade his office and bring in more professional medical staff to handle regular insurance claims (except government supported insurance coverage).Probably should seek different doctor for help and not burden him if one is not in the low income group.
Warning....Warning....Warning..... Do not, Do not seek this office for medical help. This office is a fraud and is only seeking to get illegal $$$$. Yes, Illegal money. This office was one of the doctors in my network. I called, let them know I was under Cigna and they told me to come in. I gave them my insurance information and was told to wait. After almost 30 minutes, the front office told me that my copay with that insurance was $75. That did not make any sense b/c my insurance covers 70% of the visit. I asked how much were the office visits and she said $125 but we will give you a discount for $75. So I told them, in other words you are not filing a claim in my insurance, you want me to pay $75 cash. They started speaking in their language and then was told that they were full and could not accept any patients that were not paying cash. So yes I was TURNED AWAY this morning because I had insurance and would not pay cash. This office is price gouging copays and refusing to see ill patients that are covered under insurance plans, when they have a contract to accept CIGNA insurance. Do not waste your time!!!
I agree with Yelp U (3rd post). Dr. Paul Chu is $$$ hungry. We had to pay him a few hundred (around $500) just to expedite the filling out of some medical forms by his office which took less than 30 minutes to fill out. He had the medical records in his office to fill out the forms.
I can relate to the waiting room experience and the interesting location but I do think he treats me well and cares. I also think he provides a lot of care to poor people on cut rate health plans and probably needs to be sure he gets paid when he can.I think people are a little harsh in their views of him.
doesnt deserve to be a dr. his clinic is stinky and dirty. he has dumb and stupid ppl on the desk, who dont follow english.his license should be revoked. follows 50 yr old methods. His clinic didt seem to be in San Francisco, USA, instead some 4th world country (highly uncivilized)appoinment doesnt hold any meaning, 1015 ppl are waiting (sleeping) in the room. deserves 0 or infact ve stars.
If I can give a 0 start for this Mr. Chu I would do it. This is not an ethical doctor. If you want to live in Hell, go to him. He doesnt care and treat his patient well. All he does is want money $$$$$....all he sees in his eyes are green$$$$$$. He actually sell illegal doctors note in exchange for $. He will rather have you die and suffer than to be a real doctor to save and treat people.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
