Sam Oryol M's Online Review Report Card

First time visit and he was straight to the point and didnt sugar coat anything. Most of all he was right on time to see me and the check only took 1015 minutes. Thank You Dr. Oryol!

After calling every doctor on my insurances list for about 2 hours, finally was able to get an appt w this doctor of endocrinology and general practice. I found him to be everything I was looking for in a doc. Dr. Oryol was kind, patient and listened to my queries, asking questions that were to the point. The office manager/receptionist was also kind, attentive and very professional. She even asked me if I wanted coffee or tea. No other doctor Ive ever visited in my 46 years ever did that. So overall Im happy and my tests came out better than I thought they would so Im doubly happy!

I only gave one star because I had to. I had read the questionable reviews. I even met someone who knows Dr. Oryol after I selected him as my doctor (before I saw him) and she told me he was horrible, you need to change doctors!. Still, he was geographically desirable and I figured how bad could he be? Well, hes the most unprofessional doctor Ive ever had in my many years on this earth. It has nothing to do with his being Russian. My great grandparents were Russian. I could tell you the whole story, but Ill spare you. Just trust me as someone who usually has fantastic relationships with her doctor, Ive never experienced anything like Dr.Oryol. NOT a nice person, not a good doctor.

I have known Dr. Oryol for a couple years now. He is a knowledgeable doctor. A lot of reviews say he isnt listening, however I disagree. He  takes the time to process my concerns and questions and if I dont understand the response he tries a different way to explain it. Sometimes his accent is hard to understand, but Ive gotten used to it.

I have been seeing Sam Oryol MD since October of 2006. I was going to St Marys Philippa Health Clinic before that and that was such impersonal experience, as I am on low income he is one rare physician that does accept MediCal and Anthem Blue Cross as private physician.  Basically he is nice person and amenable.  Once one gets to know him and his wife (receptionist) works as pair.  She is very nice and she calls me day early to remind me of appointment.My only drawback with him is that I have complained about haematuria (blood in urine) and he does seems to gloss over that as well as some other issues.  He seems to want to do things his way in set fashion. This is why I have reluctantly offer him only three stars on this review.  I have thought of going to another physician, Japanese one here in this city that accepts ABC medical insurance. (I am in part Japanese so this would be important to me).However, I do not want to change right now, as I dont know how long I will be living in San Francisco (with the pending closure of City College). Also I live very close and can even walk, which sometimes I do, to and from his office to where I live thus very convenient.Thus despite his shortcomings in listening carefully to his patients, he is amenable and accepts insurance for low income people.  Plus again he is within walking distance to where I live.  He may seem gruff at first but once one gets to know him, he does seem to open up sociably.

Dr. Sam Oryol is an excellent physician. Its very simple. If you have an issue, he will identify it and diagnose properly, and get you treated. He knows the right questions to ask. His years of practice are evident in every visit. His office is clean, and operates very well. This is in part due to Laura, head receptionist.Like Dr. Oryol, Laura is on top of her game. Paperwork is completed, faxed, calls to pharmacists placed even before I can request she do so. I feel my health care is quite secure under their care.Note: I see the other reviews below, and just have to say: Dr.Oryol is a wonderful doctor and man, and truly Russian. So, if you are not used to Russians, you may feel he is not being super friendly. Do not be fooled; you can joke with him :) And remember, you are there for advice from a skilled professional, who will give you what you need to know.

These other reviews with bad ratings are simply irrational.  I come from a family of physicians and no one posting here has any mind or knowledge to suggest the competenancy of this doctor, or any other for that matter.   Dr. Oryol is Russian and so is his amazing assistant Laura.  I find him to be rather funny while still being a good doctor.  If youve been sheltered and never interacted with anyone who is Russian I can see why you mighve been putoff at first by his personality.  All character and personality judgments aside, he definitely knows what he is doing and IS respected in the medical community.  I would recommend him to my mother..  enough said.

I wish I had read these reviews before I went to Dr. Oryol, having picked him randomly from <a href=/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fzocdoc.com&amp;s=f51cbfd9aa1296caab16875b7ff2eead4d196f08e4eac920ec6e1725431fe1cc target=_blank rel=nofollow>zocdoc.com</a> because he had an opening that day.  Not to get too specific, but Id had pain in the groin region for over 3 weeks, which had started with a lump down there.  Needless to say, I was (am) freaked out.  I dont ordinarily go to the doctor at all but I figured this might be something Id want to catch early.Ive never written a review on yelp before and Im doing so now because Dr. Oryol is horrible.  Horrible bedside manner, which I dont even care about, as long as he has his shit together.  Dr. Oroyol most definitely does not have his shit together.  When I told him what my problem was he gave me the most contemptuous look Ive ever gotten.  Not sure why.  He then proceeded to ask a few cursory questions before telling me I was fine and to take ibruprofen for the pain.  That wasnt okay with me, so after a couple minutes of arguing he agreed to physically check me out.  After again expressing my concerns, he agreed to send me down to the lab for urine and blood work.  Its been a week, his office is apparently closed at 3pm on a Thursday, and I havent heard anything about the test results.  Skip this doc, go see someone who cares about your health or at least about doing their job well.

I dont understand why some people leave such negative reviews for Dr. Oryol.   Ive been his patient for over a year.  He was referred to me by an ER doctor.  Why?  Because apparently he is highly respected within the medical community. Ok, Ill agree that Dr. Oryol doesnt treat  his patients like a butler would treat a household guest; but then again, I wouldnt expect him to.  I dont go to a doctor for his or her pleasantries.  What I expect and what I get every time is a doctor who is (1) experienced, (2) competent, (3) and thorough.   Ill just end with this: when I leave his office, I know I just got my moneys worth.

Its sad but people are more prone to leave a review when they have a negative experience than a positive one.  Which is why I am writing this review.Very knowledgeable, experienced, and reputable physician.  I usually get my recommendations from other doctors. Like, who would you recommend for. . . helping me with my allergies? Thats how I came across Dr. Oryol.  He was highly recommended by another physician.  If you seek recommendations based on yelpers alone, you probably wont visit Dr. Oryol.  But if you care more about the opinions of fellow physicians, I think you will find he has a really good reputation.
