Samuel Ellison Md's Online Review Report Card

Terrible experience with Dr Ellison. He didn't even check the mole in question, was very rude, and didn't give me any solid advice on next steps. He referenced the fact that I was a 'lady' when I asked whether a removal would leave a scar. Completely irrelevant and inappropriate to bring up gender when you're asking for some simple advice and facts from a supposed professional. I left feeling uncomfortable and patronized. At least they refunded my copay. I never leave reviews but felt like I couldn't let this one pass.

Dr Ellison did a cursory check of my moles, without use of dermascope. Did not propose reviewing/capturing photographs to track changes. Proposed excising a small perfectly round black mole, due to it being black, without doing a biopsy prior. Seeking a second opinion. My sense is that screening is sub-par, and that the Dr. wants to rush to perform higher-fee procedures.

I knew something was wrong when he walked into the room with his mask half on. He looks like Ed Asner from the movie UP.First - he didn't wear gloves until I said "you should be wearing gloves".Second - he couldn't see the wart on my face. So he asked me to mark it with a black sharpy - i did.Third - I didn't see it until I got home, that he completely misses the wart on my cheek but left a small scare underneath the wart - from the electrical device.Finally - I called the office to let them know of his error and to talk to him personally. They rescheduled with another doctor and then passed and spoke to Dr. Ellison. In short: He doubted my claimHe raised his voice He offered to reschedule with himHe did not apologize DON'T visit Dr. Samuel Ellison you can do better!

By and large, I've been lucky to have doctors who are concerned, polite and professional. Dr. Ellison is none of these. I was shocked by his rudeness and snide comments at my very first – and only – visit. My protest about his behavior was greeted with condescension. If you're looking for skilled treatment from a caring physician, look elsewhere.

I have been a patient of Dr. Ellison's for twenty years. He is the best dermatologist I've ever had.

I had a worst acne since 2016 and I went to his clinic. He gave me antibiotics which was helpful. After several years I told him that I don't want to depend on taking those antibiotics because I'm worried that it can injure my kidney. I ask him for any advice but didn't say anything. I don't want to depend on antibiotics forever.

Terrible experience. From scheduling, them canceling appointments on me last minute, and the actual visit with Dr. Ellison - everything was sub par. I've had to make several follow up appointments with other dermatologist to fix his work, everyday I regret having let him treat me. This man is way past him prime.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Ellison who I've been going to for an annual skin check for over 10 years. Ellison has been a practicing dermatologist for over 40 years and it's great he has 3 different offices in SF making it easier to make an appointment. His office staff are also always friendly and positive and understanding and I've been to see him at all three offices over the years.He really knows his stuff so when he gives you a diagnosis and treatment, he's spot on! Dr. Ellison has suffered from some severe sunburns (as I have as well) as a young child so he understands first hand what the damage of the sun can do, and also what aging does.Most doctors' offices require patients to wait and it's unusual to wait more than 10 or 15 min but it can happen anywhere.Ellison is fast, efficient, knowledgeable and his advice (and the meds) do work. Thank you Dr. Ellison for being a great dermatologist and look forward to my next annual skin check.

I saw Dr. Ellison at the Ocean Ave location and it was awful. I had a rash on my face and he told me right away it was stress, without even looking at it or asking me any questions. He was the typical doctor who thinks he knows everything and didn't take time to even pretend he cared. Furthermore, he prescribed some extreme medication my insurance wouldn't even cover. It must be something really strong (and unnecessary) because my insurance is good and covers almost everything.

Most of us don't love going to the doctor's office, and it's never fun going specifically to have my skin poked, prodded, and even burned. Dr. Ellison and his team are the trifecta: top notch professional medical experts; friendly personal service and comforting bedside manner; and among the few San Francisco shops who can still afford to take insurance (while continuing to provide excellent care).
