Best to go there in person, forget the phone

I love my VA Med Ctr and all its wonderfully caring caregivers and professionals.Today I had a chance to use the Veterans Service Center and meet Terry. Later I was recieved by the very pleasant Jessica at the Vaccination Clinic. Terry was actually a fountain of information. I really learned a lot just listening to him. Hes been around a while and he knows how this whole thing works but hes able to break it down to the average person walking in so we walk out a winner. He's funny a pretty nice person too. I had a nice chat with him.I went up to the vaccination clinic to get my covid and flu shot and I really wasn't in a jovial mood when I went there however when I got there it was amazing. Jessica totally put me at ease got me in contact with the person that would give me the shots communicated perfectly and she has a great personality.

My husband just had a pacemaker installed at this hospital. He arrived by ambulance from Mather and my stepson and I drove down for the surgery and to take him home after recovery. Without exception, everyone we encountered was kind, informative, and helpful. When we arrived, my husband’s nurse walked us through (by phone) where to check in and how to locate my husband’s room. The place is huge, so we routinely found ourselves lost. Someone always walked up to us and provided directions, often walking with us to lead the way. I received three calls after the surgery - two from his doctors and one from his nurse informing me of the details of his surgery and steps for the coming weeks. The pharmacist in residence delivered medication and reviewed all precautions and contraindications. His recovery nurse was exceptional- patient and attuned to my husband’s needs. The grounds outside provide lots of opportunities for walking or taking in the ocean views.

The professional staff here is great, the support staff not so much. Masks are still required to enter the medical buildings. However, not all folks wear their mask correctly. Twice now, I've seen the same person behind the medical practice counter with mask below chin. Agreed with the previous reviewer, come here for the medical services not the food. I mean, how good can hospital food be? And for anyone to think that the VA discriminates when hiring, think again. Just look inside the facility and you will see the diversity of workers (clerks, custodians, techs, nurses, doctors, and anyone else in between).

This is hands-down the Worst VA in California. This place does NOT provide optimum services for veterans at all. Dont expects great bedside manners, hospitality, dedication, or anything associated with high-quality service. Upon entry, you'll have to wait in a Covid Screening Line, where you shall encounter some extremely ghetto, uncouth, poorly-dressed, possibly gang-affiliated, incompetent security guards. Their jobs are quite simple: greet us, write down our information, ask us screening questions, give us masks (if needed), direct us to the hand sanitizer, and send us on our way. They'll more than likely get the latter three correct, and the former wrong. There's one security guard that had the audacity to yell at me on my first visit at this campus, because I didn't initially understand the procedure. No one cared! Theres also a husky security guard with short and stuby dreadlocks there, that refuses to write legibly or spell me name correctly (despite me showing him my ID). It's not that these security guards aren't doing their best, because they unfortunately are. It's that this particular VA isn't buying the best third-party security company that they can afford. They're paying for the bare-minimum, which results in bare-minimum performances. It's all downhill from there. Many of the doctors are just as tacky, and just as incompetent as the security guards. They also don't behave like traditional healers. They more than likely see us as a task to cross off of their lists, and NOT a patient that needs healing. My primary care Nurse Practitioners is a prime example of this. He was so lazy, green, and not invested in my health that he tried giving my acupuncture for my shoulder; when in reality, I needed a labrum surgery for a tear in my labrum. Had I NOT stayed on his case, I would've never received a consultation for the Orthopedic. I'll be getting him to release me to another PCP soon. Many of the veterans are drug addicts, homeless, elderly, or veterans that were recently approved for health benefits; so they more than likely don't know what good service is. I strongly loathe Los Angeles County and nearly every city that it encompasses. However, one of the many things that County got right was the VA facilities and its treatment of the Veterans. Overall, this place is dirty, ghetto, reckless, and it lacks hospitality. You'll sooner feel like a prisoner than you will a patient. Be aware of this! ALL VETERANS DESERVE THE BEST SERVICE POSSIBLE.

Nice , clean and welcoming VA hospital; with amazing views if you want to go for a quick walk.

Management purposely with holds care from Vets, hospital as a whole thinks mental health is a joke. Do not expect to get care here. Try another facility, and if you must seek care here. Be mindful that at any moment they will deny you care.

Many unprofessional people who work at this VA location are medical students, nurse trainees, not-yet doctors in their residencies. Management is non-existent, and if you ask a question, most of the answers are "I don't know." Don't know what the mortality rate is for this hospital, but don't go here unless it's your last resort. Welcome to the House Of Doom.

I don't go here to eat. I do go to get medical services. It's been great for me. They are respectful of us Transgender Americans. The medical care is wonderful. Never billed for anything.Saved my life multiple times. Massively grateful.Definitely recommend.
