List of Shane Burch's Reviews
Are you kidding me? Dr. Shane Burch at UCSF is The VERY BEST!! After several years of deterioration, my spine was a mess! My local orthopedic was not confident that he could help me, so he sent me to Dr. Burch. Because of the Covid shut down last year, I spent most of it in agony. My Initial consultation with Dr. Burch was my first ray of hope. He patiently explained what he could do and what I might expect. Finally, months later, I endured a 9 hour surgery the first day, and a 9.5 hour surgery the next day. Dr. Burch's skill and expertise is remarkable. 11 fusions and two rods later, I'm pain free and extremely grateful that there were no complications and healing and physical therapy gave me my life back ..my case was very complicated and challenging. Dr. Shane Burch is the Very Best!
Dr. Burch is an excellent physician. He really seems to care about his patients and really seems to be one of the best in his field.
There is not enough stars for Dr. Shane Burch. I want to share my experience I had with Dr. Shane Burch. I have had a bad back for the last 12 years, and I was in a car accident a couple years when someone ran into my car, and after that my back was worst. At that point I knew, I had no choice but to look into a surgery on my back. I was not able to stand up straight, I was in pain all of the time and on medications to cope with the pain I was having. I felt very depressed and could not enjoy life and do the things that I once enjoyed. I had two other surgeries in the past that did not help much.I had talked to several surgeons in the past about my particular back surgery I needed to have my S-1 to L-2 fused know as a decompression surgery. Some of the surgeons explained it to me as a very complicated surgery and sometimes the results were not always as successful as you would hope for. i set up more appointments to talk with other surgeons for their opinions and it lead me to UCSF to have the surgery done. I was very fortunate to be able to set up an appointment with Dr. Shane Burch. Once I met Dr. Shane Burch I knew he was the one I wanted to have perform my surgery. He was so easy to talk too about the surgery and my concerns and what it all involved.I ended up setting up the appointment to have the surgery performed by Dr. Shane Burch. From the moment I entered UCSF I was so happy knowing I made the right decision. Everyone was so kind and nice to me. Dr. Shane Burch Walked me through step-by-step as to what was going to be done. After my surgery I was able to start walking without using a cane and day by day I keep getting better. I am able to stand up straight and people can actually see that I am feeling so much better and look healthy now. I truly have to say that the surgery Dr. Shane Burch and his staff performed gave me my life back. I want Dr. Shane Burch to know how much I appreciate him and how thankful I am to have had Dr. Shane Burch and his team as my surgeon he's the best.
Dr Burch became my surgeon when I had a spinal infection and was close to death. I was 61. Three major surgeries later I am doing great. He is wonderful. Skilled. Kind. A gift from the Lord. Im very grateful for his care.
I had ACDF surgery with Dr. Burch 2 months ago. I had been dealing with nerve pain for over a year. Dr. Burch and team took their time with me explaining the options. I felt very well informed going into the procedure. Post surgery I'm pain free and within 8 weeks I was able to get back to all my normal activities. I'd recommend Dr. Burch and the UCSF Spine Clinic without hesitation.
Dr Burch performed a L4 L5 discectomy due to horrible pain I had been experiencing for several months. Dr Burch did a great job and is a highly skilled surgeon. Dr Burch also has a very friendly and calming bedside manner and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering spine surgery.
Dr. Shane Burch did three surgeries on my spine over six years, so I consider myself an expert on him, and I can tell you, without reservation, that it doesn't get any better than him. He is top-notch. You won't be rushed into surgery right away if he thinks trying other treatments first could help. However, once he decides to do your surgery, you can have the full confidence that his knowledge and skills are beyond question. What's more, this is a doctor who will walk into the room entirely focused on you. You've seen doctors who can hardly get out the door before they're inside. That's not Dr. Burch. He will stay--not to chat, but to care for you. I was in horrible pain. I am now pain-free. You won't find a better surgeon; you won't find a better physician, you won't find a better human being. Do not be afraid. He gave me back my life. He will give you back yours.

Prior to my surgery in February, 2019 I could not drive a car or walk more than 10 minutes. Dr. Burch performed a two day procedure to fuse 3 lumbar vertebrae. I am six months post surgery and I’m without pain. I can walk 3 miles and have returned to the gym to row and lift weights. Improvement did not happen overnight but by following the recommended physical therapy and following the post surgery protocols I have regained my active lifestyle. Dr. Burch is so accomplished and he is surrounded by a highly competent staff. By the way I am 76 years old.
After four years of unyielding pain, Dr. Shane Burch gave me my life back. I had exhausted the roster of injections, ablation and other interventions. Surgery was my last remaining option. Thankfully, my orthopedist, Dr. Mark Ignatius, referred me to Dr. Burch. As a first time surgery patient, I was particularly anxious because SI joint syndrome is difficult to definitively diagnose. I met with Dr. Burch four times before committing to the procedure, and each time he considered my questions with a warm, straightforward approach, never showing frustration at my deliberations.I had fusion of the SI joint using a posterior approach. I have gone from barely able to stand being in my body, in any position before, to walking three miles a day and doing PT. Dr. Burch saved me from aging before my time. I truly never expected to see this place again - and certainly not in under a year. If you find you need surgery, choose UCSF Spine Center, and insist upon Dr. Shane Burch. He’s remarkable

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
