I just logged in to Yelp today looking for their number, which is out of date here BTW, and was surprised by all the negative reviews. I've had nothing but a good experience at SOMA. You do have to remember that you're at a city funded free clinic, not a private practice. The people who work at this clinic deal with hectic stuff on the daily. Thus all the Plexiglas. Stop whining. Maggie Dann is the best med provider I've ever had. She tried a lot of med combinations, and fine tuned until everything was just right. It was a lot of work, because my depression is treatment resistant. My therapist Dr. Garth is very blunt and no-nonsense. She's not cuddly, but I'm not looking for cuddly, I'm looking for effective. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you want a therapist to soothe you and whose office smells like flowers, look elsewhere. I will agree on the scheduling issue. I've had appointments rescheduled a number of times. But I'm also aware that the people who work there have some difficult clients and a heavy workload. It's a pretty no frills and sometimes grim place, but I've gotten good therapeutic advice and medication management there for sure.
I am grateful for all the extra help and guidance and a kick in the back when needed to always make my mental health recovery a priority on my to do list.
Dr fisher is the best mental health dr for sf ca and listens too all patients problems and helps them deal with whatever there problems is too
bring back my life thanks to heather
Gave near fatal maltreatment. Told psychiatric nurse my issues and can make me suicidal later. History of bipolar 1 and other diagnosis. Went for treatment and practitioner said PTSD and OCD. Tried different SSRIs, Last was Lexapro. Started to ruminate over past medical trauma and sending lots of emails. Told her that mania can cause excessive emails. She told me "you live in the past," take that school shirt off and dump the backpack and forget the old diagnosis, you are being treated for this now. She doubled the Lexapro, triggering rage. Then end up in three hospitals for her treatment. Went back and doctor told me, "We are the county we have access to all your medical records, there is no bipolar." Never gave consent, and she lied right to my face. I said big word and looked at me in amazement. The whole staff there treated me as stupid and psychotic. Said implicit bias, "oh, everyone is out to get you." They put my life in danger and maybe others too. Stay away from SOMA for your life. They are dangerous!
Excellent lifetime help with mental health issues, my suffering from schizo-affective disorder, is what So. of Market Mental Health Clinic has been known for.
Do they have the right meds for me?
It is December 12th today. I have been trying to see someone here since early October. I've had 4 appointments and every single time I show up to my appointment but the doctor does not. They don't bother calling me to tell me the doctor didn't show up instead I travel here and they tell me "oh the doctor didn't show up so we're going to have to schedule you an appointment 2-3 weeks from now. I take the new appointment and what do you know the doctor doesn't show up again. It's like messing with my mental health is a game to them. Well it's not funny AT ALL. So frickin MAD

The staff and doctors work hard and they have always been respectful, helpful, and understanding. This place saved my life. Hands down. When every other clinic in SF was turning me away, South of Market Mental Health took me in and treated me right away. It can be intimidating to sit in the waiting room with so many others that suffer from a variety of mild to severe mental health issues, but as long as you're aware and you have understanding.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
