Stanley Leong's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Leong is a very competent and very compassionate doctor.  He is one of the best doctors one can have, has years of experience in this specialty, and is very dedicated.  One example of his exemplary care is about 9 months after my first wide excision surgery, I found a subcutaneous lump and called his office.  I got an appointment for the next day, at which, Dr. Leong examined the lump, and excised it immediately saying it was most probably melanoma, which it turned out to be.   Then at the subsequent surgery for preventing spread from this spot, he took out 21 lymph nodes to be very thorough.  And, over the weekend prior to that surgery a question about presurgery medication developed and he quickly called me answering the question. Several months ago, I was hospitalized for a serious adverse effect from immune therapy and about 5pm one day, needed to know from Dr. Leong if the arm from the side where the lymph nodes had been removed could be used the next day for infusions, so I emailed Dr. Leong.  Dr. Leong called me back later that night after his day of surgeries giving me the answer.  I feel very fortunate that Dr. Leong is my surgeon.

Mohammed KashaniSabet, M.D s melanoma clinic is one of the top in the world.  I have chatted with several cancer survivors who praise this team, which includes Dr Stanley Leong, a noted, very experienced surgeon and Dr. Kevin  Kim, a very experienced oncologist. Basically, their successful patients will tell you to do what they say. After a 5 1/2 hour surgery, Dr. Leoung met with our family and spent 45 minutes explaining the surgery, showed us photos of each step and the tumors he removed. He arranged for special post operative services and the lymphodemia specialist he sent us to  is excellent.   Dr. Leong has provided incredible care, and made himself available at late hours and over the holidays to answer our questions.  ( If your are working with a surgeon, ask him for his cell phone number. If you cant get it, think twice about hiring your surgeon.  The switch boards for most clinics just dont work fast enough if you are in an emergency situation.)   I have read the negative reviews, and feel badly for the patients. The survivors I have talked to arent writing Yelp reviews, they are in Mexico or France enjoying their lives, after several years of surgeries, scanning, etc.  Surgery is horrible, success is not assured and  every patient responds differently.  I dont think we would have gone forward with the surgery if we had all of the gory details before hand. Surgery can create other problems, like lymphodemia, which are in themselves life changing and a major daily hassle.  Surgery is an essential treatment to give the patient a chance of survival with immunotherapy.Cancer treatment is a calculated risk. I am glad we are with a team who is very experienced.    Cancer care has undergone a revolution in the last several years with immunotherapy treatmen. Mohammed KashaniSabet, M.D s melanoma clinic is involved in cutting edge trails and are published.  They are very current on treatment options, and the risk trade offs.  These folks provide a caring, high expertise  service to folks at a most stressful point in their lives.  But cancer treatment is rough physically and psychologically, and you definitely should get second opinions on their recommendations.   Not everybody has success despite expert advise and care.  Cancer treatment seems to involve trade offs with varying odds of success. Its really hard to find good social service support, and they dont really offer that, and that seems to be the case for the whole Bay Area.   They are hard to get an appointment with, with long waiting lists, so dont delay in getting on their calendars. You want to catch your cancer as early as possible.

After my 7 hour surgery with Leong on a Friday he never showed up to see me in the hospital the next nor even called in any orders.I am now being seen by another doctor.I would also advise to stay away from this quack.

Stay away, get a second opinion and not let him bully you into anything before you get all the facts.  I get more information from a bottle of aspirins then what I got  from him, but believing what he told me was all the facts. Much of what he told me was not true.  I researched and asked about potential life long conditions. I was told not at all a concern and I will be right as rain in 6 weeks.  Instead I got a BUTCHERING of a surgery.  Its 8 months later and not only is my life totally changed in terms of what I can do, I live in discomfort every day, and have to spend a great deal of my time at medical clinic etc to deal with my injuries inflicted by him.

Dr Leong treated me for cancer 7 years ago. He did an excelent job at caring for me and removing the cancer... All of my thanks go out to him and god forbid if it ever came back I would rather him treat me again...
