even worse. after months of recovery, and promises by Dr Chung's main admin staff person to refund my entire surgery costs, Dr Chung has yet to refund a single penny. ANDmy belly button looks like a TRAIN WRECK bc this man is a BUTCHER. he can't tie a basic suture and i had a dr look at my belly button and tell me that it was the result of a poorly tied suture and "mis gathered skin". I mean isn't that the most basic thing a surgeon does like 100 times a day. i even went to Dr Chung one week after surgery and said there seem too be something hard and twisted extra in my belly button and he said it was lint from my t shirt, then he said oh no it was sutures that would melt away. well, DR CHUNG, once again YOU ARE WRONG, another dr looked at it this time and told me it's dead flesh that needs to be removed now at extra cost to me thanks to your incompetence.***** DO NOT LET THIS MAN CUT YOUR BODY *****

I had a terrible experience before during & after. I had severe pain multiple times & was not able to reach Dr Chung nor his staff though i attempted four separate ways. and worse Dr. Chung blamed the entire thing on his staff. Sorry Dr. Chung the entire office is your responsibility and your colleagues bc you own the practice. You don't get to just throw up your hands and say you're not involved.(this review will stand until i hear back from ann who told me she will reimburse me the full profit from my surgery)If want details, read below.Poor Communication from day one:stacy frontdesk doesn't call you back, doesn't return emails & though i reached out four times, she is just a brick wall. she's rude, as others have pointed out, she's clearly the one other references to as the first contact.*** LGBTQI People BEWARE ***dr. chung is openly queer, HOWEVER, don't let that fool you. I have Never had a more offensive & irresponsibly worded intact form in my life. I used to teach at the famous KINSEY institute so i am very in favor of research and open minded, so just about no question would offend me. But this doctor's questions are NOT about serving the patients needs they are ALL ABOUT DR CHUNG & only HIS perceived needs. The forms asks not only if you are a man who has sex with other men but asks if you are the "receiver". excuse me dr. chung. i was there to have my gallbaldder removed and last time i checked anal sex didn't go that far up. and if you are trying to get at anything such as STDs for your own safety bc you are a surgeon i suggest you treat all patients the same. I happen to get tested regularly & i happen to be 100% STD free, but more to the point i don't judge people who are & yet people lie, and if you know how to be a proper surgeon you shouldn't need to ask anyway, you jerk. Your office didnt ask me to do any prior testing nor did i authorize any, so your questionnaire isn't part of any research study clearly so it's just ALL ABOUT YOU. so drop the act & drop the invasive questions bc no. 1 they aren't helping your patients and no. 2, the wording is so badly phrased it doesnt get to any reasonable conclusion bc i was a top to my husband for 20 yrs but it's so open ended anyone over the course of their lifetime even if they tried it once would have to say yes to that question so it's a meaningless result. You have no idea how too effectively communicate with people even your choice of wording is POOR.Poor Communication by DR CHUNG: Dr Chung has very poor communication. Like 6 other patients have mentioned in this yelp review. he doesn't prepare your chart even though it's in advance, he seems to talk in general about his basic knowledge of the GI tract as if it's some wow knowledge and yet doesn't address your specific needs. Mine included early signs of gastroparesis and yet he hadn't reviewed my gastrobarostat study nor my gastroparesis results, at all, which are extremely relevant bc the stomach empties very close to the gallbladder. He's like a robot, he has no feelings and worse, he says the most offensive things during exams, like when i asked if you used proper scar prevention strips called "scar-away" and he said he had not heard of them and then worse he added well the raised scar tissue you have on your skin is bc you have "bad material to work with" imply that bc i am 5'9" 185 i am "stocky" and "thick" ie fat to dr chung and that is why i have raised scars, NO DR CHUNG, i had a major surgery before and they used scar away strips and i never had scarring. you are just an out-of-touch and out of date surgeon who hasn't heard of the latest approaches to scar prevention. scars occur bc the skin rubs along the incision lines and if it's held in place by a strip it won't move and so the seam heals without a ridge formed from abrasion. you just left four Large holes from laparoscopic surgery in my body and left them with glue and by the way stitches and no follow up appointment to see how they were doing. Very Poor Dr Chung due to your neglect that's how, and the ridges are like extra flaps of skin now on my body thanks to your POOR SURGICAL TECHNIQUES. what at 30K for my surgery you can't afford to buy 1.50 strip of silicone to place over my wounds before you clean up? neglect is going to cost you a lot more. wow.Communication from Front Desk: this is a mixed bag. I want to take a moment to acknowledge that there are some very good staff here, emily, Kara others, ann, but sadly they are shadowed by the poor staff who leave you hanging stacy, billing etc.Conclusion: Dr. Chung needs to be reviewed by Medical Board for poor business practices and better business bureau.

I had laparoscopic hernia surgery done by Dr. Chung at Presidio Surgery Center what is now 7 months ago. It was my first surgery ever so I was quite apprehensive. Dr. Chung was very reassuring that it was just routine ("already done 7 this week!"). The whole process was pretty smooth -- all the bumps in the road had been thought through (even with the COVID complications) and there wasn't a lot of unnecessary waiting. I was prepared for a hellacious first few days to week post-op but it was actually not very bad at all. The only weird thing that caught me off-guard was that, while I had been told repeatedly that I'd get one hole on each side (plus a third in the navel), I ended up with both on the same side and spent a little while (until I could speak to Dr. Chung) wondering if something had gone amiss. (No, just it seemed easier based on whatever factors specific to me.) Also, it took longer than I expected for the CO2 pumped into me to dissipate. It doesn't go inside your intestinal tract so you don't just blow it out in a single fart, unfortunately. This led to some discomfort but, in the overall scheme of things, that was pretty minor.Anyway, I was able to start exercising some within a week. I had a lot of soreness and tightness in my abs for a while after (like a month or two), and then little bits of lingering tightness for a couple of more months. It took about that long before I could really do the core-setting exercises prescribed by a physical therapist for a previous back problem. But after that I started intensively training for track sprints and now it is honestly like nothing ever happened! I've been doing tons of abs work and my abs are looking better than they have in (literally) decades, with no more of the lingering tightness/soreness from the surgery. You have to look very hard to find the "scars" from the incisions -- they are just little pink spots without any noticeable raised or hard skin.I had been wondering if I would feel the mesh in the hernia spot on an ongoing basis. Nope! Even when I do stretches that totally collapse the hip joint right on top of that area, I can't feel a thing there.Bottom line, everything went much better than what I expected from my online research and I would totally and heartily recommend Dr. Chung for anyone who needs hernia surgery.

Dr Chung is very caring and generous with his time he takes the time to explain the situation and listens to your concerns. Dr Chung is very skillful as a surgeon, because of his skilled hands and medical knowledge I am able to function daily again. I would highly recommend Dr Chung.

Dr Chung is one of the best surgeon you can have. His knowledge allows for and accurate diagnosis and care plan. Thanks to Dr Chung skill as a surgeon and his generous kind nature I am now living again. I would recommend Dr Chung to anyone including my family members.

Dr Chung has been so caring through out my treatment. Dr Chung is very professional with excellent bedside manners. His office staff is also top notch at the Mission Bernal Heights campus. Anytime I have questions or concerns both Dr Chung and is office staff were there for me. Because of his caring nature and highly skilled hands I can just focus on healing. Thank you so much Dr Chug.

Made a next day appointment. Saw him at his 2100 Webster office. PCP had diagnosed a perirectal abcess. He corrected the diagnosis to ingrown hair as soon as he saw it. Did a quick procedure to pop it and send me on my way. In and out in less than an hour. -1 star because at first he didn't ask before trying to pop it manually (with his hand) which can be somewhat painful. Otherwise, very quick, efficient and communicative.

I had a hernia repaired by laparoscopic surgery done by Dr. Chung. I thought that he was very professional and did an excellent job. I was walking distances the next day and had very little pain. Based on my experience, I would not hesitate to have another surgery done by Dr. Chung.

Dr Chung was great! Put me at ease, addressed my questions, and had a good sense of humor, too.

I went in for an exam and he had a student in the room with him, made me uncomfortable and didn't want a student to watch me get naked and examine me. So the student left as I asked if I could only have 1 person examine me. Then when he did examine me he started counting the amount of things he saw inside, he counted at least 8 things he wanted to remove and said we needed to set up for surgery to remove them. I was so confused so I said ok and then the front desk said they will have someone call me to set up the surgery next week. I decided to get a 2nd opinion somewhere else and they didn't see anything inside me to remove, they were shocked that the doctor told me I needed surgery. Well to top it all off they never even called me to set up surgery so I'm grateful I got a 2nd opinion somewhere else and didn't spend money, time and recovery for something that wasn't needed.
