Great doctor with great staff. Always nice and professional. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I have seen Dr. Pickering on and off for the last few years because I have risk factors for glaucoma, although fortunately I do not have the actual disease.  Last August, I developed a large, dark, milky floater in one eye that appeared in a manner of minutes.  After waiting overnight to see if it would go away (it didn't), I called Dr. Pickering's office, and she advised me to come in ASAP so that she could examine me.  She referred me to West Coast Retina (and got me in that same day) for a possible torn retina, but fortunately it turned out be a detached vitreous with no damage to my retina.  Anyway, I was very grateful to Dr. Pickering for seeing me on such short notice, as she is very busy all the time.  She is very caring and knowledgeable.  The whole office (Glaucoma Center of San Francisco) is very professional and well-run in my experience.  Although Dr. Pickering is a specialist in glaucoma, she will see general ophthalmology patients as well.  My wife liked her so much that she now goes to her as well.

Dr. Pickering  is an amazing doctor and person. I was in her offices (2 floors) for roughly four hours and had several lengthy and comprehensive tests. Dr. P is not only brilliant, she's also kind, sweet and caring, She explained every detail of the tests that she and her staff performed, and I never felt rushed. I am scheduled to see her again in six months and I am actually looking forward to seeing her again.

I have seen Dr. Pickering for years. She is thoughtful and careful and I have received excellent care. She also has referred me to other specialists when the need has arisen and these specialists have spoken very highly of her.

Dr Pickering gets my vote for the best doctor in my lifetime. As another review stated you never feel rushed. Her knowledge is second to none and her demeanor is always pleasant.

The WORST front office staff I have ever encountered. My primary physician referred me to this group. I had a corneal abrasion. First I had to call 2 separate days to make an appointment. Each time I was informed that this was a GLAUCOMA Center, so no one would see me for my corneal abrasion!!!!!!!! Really? They list 5 physicians but can't accommodate me. The second day when I called and was told that they could not see me I asked again that since my doctor sent them a referral, was she sure that they would not see me? After all, they had failed to inform my doctor that they could not accept the referral! So I was told that if I was willing I could see their optometrist. Great! I got an appointment with a doctor so that I could avoid an emergency room visit! That was Friday and the appointment was yesterday, Monday. When I arrived I was informed that they did not have a record of the referral. When I asked if they could just call the referring doctor I was told by the male medical assistant that "We don't do that" and that I would have to make the call myself. It was raining and would take 2 buses to go from here to the emergency room so I told this man that my eye hurt and I needed to see a doctor, which was the sole reason I didn't just walk out right then. He said I could pay the bill in cash. I agreed. I just wanted to see ANY doctor at that point. Meanwhile the girl at the reception desk had taken the clipboard back from me when she learned that I didn’t have the required insurance information. I had gone up later and picked up the board myself so I had only partially completed the paperwork when this assistant took me to another area to start a visit, so the paperwork was incomplete. The optometrist was great, no complaint. But the staff story gets worse. I was brought back to this front desk. The 2 girls sitting there were not talking to each other and, I swear, I saw the one girl looking for my chart and asking out loud for my chart. The other girl failed to respond (and it turned out that she had the missing chart sitting in front of her in plain sight). So I called my doctor’s office on my cell phone to ask that they fax a referral. I wasn’t even asked if I had a cell phone or if I needed to borrow a phone to get the referral faxed to this office. We waited. 5 minutes later I checked and was told by the girl at the desk that the fax had not arrived. I called my doctor’s office again and was assured that the fax was sent and marked as received, but it was re-faxed. And I again waited. I then saw another employee walk behind the desk and I asked her if she could check on the fax. She got onto the computer and voila! It had been faxed into the computer. She printed it and then she asked for the chart and the girl who had not responded the first time now gave up the chart to the same girl who had tried to get it before! Now they had the paper referral and required insurance so that I didn’t have to pay. But now she required that I complete the paperwork. Since I need a follow-up appointment I just signed the paperwork. And since I just signed the HIPAA release info I asked if she could either give me a copy of the visit report or send it to the doctor who referred me to the office. This was yet a big deal because she first did not understand that I had a right to this information, and then said that they didn’t have a fax number – I pointed to the fax number next to the referral doctor’s name on the referral. Then she said she could fax it there. I went to the pharmacy and had yet one more hurdle. The prescription had not been signed by a doctor, and the optometrist’s name was not listed on the prescription. I know that this is a long review, but no patient should be put through this front office dysfunction. Happily there are plenty of eye doctors in this city so I will not have to return. And as someone who is forming a cataract, I know that I will need a specialist. So maybe this was a blessing. Dr. Terri Pickering is the following:-Engaged in modern technology -Understands medicine-Knows how and why the body behaves as it does-Well educated-Well trained-Incredibly studied-In practice with other highly trained staff (doctors, assistants, office....every detail accounted for)-Committed to her patients living healthy happy lives-Cares about her practice as a physicianIf you want a great doctor, she is certainly worth your health, time, and energy.

Worst doctor ever!  Misdiagnosed me with an epidemic eye disease!  I went to this office because my eyes were mildly bothering me for weeks and I thought it might have been more than contact irritation.  First optometrist examined me and said my eyes were a little red and I should rest them and not wear contacts for a few days.  For a second opinion she brought in Terri Pickering.  This doctor immediately freaked out and told me I had something called EKC, without telling me what that meant.  First she made me tell her everything I touched in the waiting room so they could sterilize it then told me I should follow up with a cornea specialist to make sure I didn't have any scarring.  Terri basically shooed me out the door, told me I couldn't go into work for a week, and sent me off with a "prescription."  It was all I could do not to burst into tears right then.  Later I found out that 1) EKC clears up on its own 2) the expensive steroid drops she said I "needed" were only to help inflammation and are not a cure for the conjunctivitis 3) She was wrong all along!  I never had it said my cornea specialist (a real doctor in my opinion).  Of course I sent a fire alarm to all my roommates and coworkers, threw out all my good makeup, and practically sanitized and washed my whole apartment.  Bad doctor with bad medical judgement.  AVOID!!!

After searching for for an eye doctor for a year, I finally found Dr Pickering. She's very knowledgeable, friendly and never makes you feel rushed.

I was a patient of hers back in the day when I had health insurance (5 yrs ago) and she was  in a practice close to Powell St. I was glad that I found her in Yelp because she  deserves a praise.   I have sight one eye only  (monovisual) since birth so I have seen many eye doctors through out my life. I just want to say that my experience at her office was the best. Her team and her were very kind,  and thorough (they were detailed and did not rush me out the door). Even, after my insurance expired when I needed a document for DMV she sent me the paper without any fuss or diffuculty.  I was so grateful. You know sometimes to get one measly paper one have to talk to twenty people to get it.  Well, not in her office, her staff was really cool.
