Alok Bansal's Online Review Report Card

Greetings! My name is Gregg Aanestad. As of this writing in April of 2022, I have been a patient of Dr. Alok Bansal for over 6 years. I’m perhaps a notable patient in that I have suffered through partial cornea-retina separations in BOTH of my eyes. Not fun, and very scary for a now-aging boomer who had earlier enjoyed a lifetime of nearly uninterrupted good health. What I wish to tell you in this review is that one of the luckiest breaks ever handed to me has been the care and expertise of Dr. Alok Bansal. He is an extraordinarily gifted young surgeon who has returned to me, at my age of 62 y/o, 20-20 vision! That said, I MUST also say that I did indeed enter my cornea/retina separations with this aforementioned 20-20 vision intact: In 2012 I had inter-ocular lens replacement (i.e., cataract surgery) performed at the Peninsula Eye Surgery Center (PESC). I’m a machinist, and I paid out-of-pocket for this luxury as the contacts I’d used thru age 52 y/o had begun to fail me. The PESC surgery was a happy success! It was the PESC I ran to in 2016 after what was the initial tell-tale tearing sensation commencing the first of my 2 partial cornea/retina separations. The tearing happened to me while at work. By the time I got to PESC, the skeleton shapes of blood moving across my vision had begun in earnest. I was panicked. I had no idea what was happening to me. The doctors at PESC diagnosed me immediately. My insurance was contacted by PESC with an urgent request that I be allowed to “bypass ophthalmology” and “proceed directly to surgery.” I was then sent by PESC to Retina Vitreous Associates (RVA) and met Dr. Alok Bansal for the first time. Fate! Dr. Alok Bansal had me scheduled for cornea/retina surgery within 48 hours. The outcome I’ve mentioned already: After a week or 2 of recovery I’d progressed to what was a full restoration of my 20-20 vision! This despite the severity of my initial situation being such that Dr. Bansal had earlier informed me that my beloved and wonderful vision might not return entirely. My second cornea/separation occurred 6 months later in early 2017. The partial separation was a weee less serious than what had earlier struck my other eye, but dire nonetheless! Seeing Dr. Bansal this second time had me feeling not just panicked once again, but lame as well that this should be happening to me in the second of my eyes. Dr. Bansal’s response to me was, “Well, we did it once, so let’s just do it again.” I was ergo able to sleep that evening. And, alas, he did it again! It's now years later, and I know Dr. Alok Bansal rather well. I consider myself proof of this gentleman’s top-notch surgical skills. And there’s more! Outside of the actual hospital surgery setting, all meetings with Dr. Alok Bansal are done in the entirely high-tech diagnostic and care facilities that he shares with others in the RVA Group. At these meetings, Dr. Bansal is 100% attentive to you: the-worried-patient. New multi-faceted scans are taken of your eyes along with pressure-checks and eye-chart readings. These results are assembled along with some grapefruit-sized plastic eyeball cutaways to supplement what are Dr. Bansal’s clear and concise discussions of your status. Dr. Bansal is likewise a plainly active listener, and he fully responds to any questions while making sure that he is understood. On a perhaps lesser note, I’d like to tell you finally that my supportive family and friends were with me at the hospital during each one of my 2 surgeries. Dr. Bansal met with them before and after the surgical work that he and his team completed. This kind gesture always helped to take some of the air from the worry of my assembled loved ones. What a guy! Let me conclude by saying that if you are interested in a highly credentialed and superlative surgeon with a magic touch, a professional demeanor, and personable care, then you want to place your trust in the capable hands of Dr. Alok Bansal!

I was diagnosed with a retinal tear on a Friday afternoon and Dr. Bansal immediately searched for hospitals available for vitrectomy surgery the next day. He not only performed surgery for me that Saturday, but also met me at the office on Sunday to check on me post-surgery. Throughout my recovery, he was attentive and responsive. Thanks to his quick diagnosis, response, and kind professional care, my eye fully recovered. I really can't thank him enough for returning to me the gift of sight. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Bansal diagnosed me with a retinal tear. He performed laser treatment on the same day because time was of the essence. It has been nine months since my procedure and I am very pleased with the outcome. I feel that Dr. Bansal is a very thorough, skilled, and exceptionally caring doctor.

It has been nine months since I had my laser treatment and I am very happy with the results. I feel that Dr. Bansal is very skilled, very kind, and an exceptional caring doctor.

Dr. Bansal is an excellent and highly knowledgable eye physician. I look forward to seeing him for treatment of my macular degeneration. The office staff is friendly and well trained, I definitely recommend him.

He has a very short fuse. Very rude and dismissive.

I am very picky about my doctor and Doctor Alok is the right choice. He is knowledgeable, kind, and informative. I am still an early stage patient but looking forward to working with this caring Doctor.

I had a great outcome from my surgery and I am especially thankful that Dr. Bonsal gently podded me into realizing how time urgent it was for me to get my surgery. I was not expecting the detached retina diagnosis when I first went to see my optometrist about some light shadows in my field of vision. After being referred to Dr. Bosal, he reacted quickly and we had surgery that afternoon. Dr. Bonsal was very exacting in explaining all the treatment options and listing the advantages and risks of each procedure. He cited very specific outcome percentages and made sure I had a very good understanding of my choices. Iâ??m also confident that Dr. Bonsalâ??s surgical skills are top notch as all the independent support staff at the hospital referenced his great skill both before and after the procedure. After care was excellent as well, and I also underwent some quick lasering in the office as a preventative measure on my other eye.

Plainly said, Dr. Alok S. Bansal is amazing. He explains everything, is perfectly professional and friendly, really listens and asks questions, and genuinely makes you feel like your are visiting a friend. The staff are also wonderful, caring, and friendly. I never have felt like a client but rather am treated as a friend.

Extremely pleased with all aspects of Dr. Bansal and his office. They are professional, courteous and thorough. I researched Retina specialist and narrowed my selection to 3 retina specialist groups. I'm glad I got Dr. Bansal from the Retina Vitreous Associates Medical Group. He made me feel at ease and I was confident on Dr. Bansal's abilities. I had surgery for a detached retina and have recovered fully! Dr. Bansal went a step further than expected by performing a preventive proceedure on my good eye in his office. I would recommend him to my family and friends, which is the highest compliment I can offer.
