List of Archana Dhawan's Reviews
Would leave a 0 if I can. Shes mostly on PTO and never around when you need her. Her treatment was completely ineffective and useless, also, tries hard to push patients to her own dialysis center.
I was a patient of Dr. Dhawan for many years. For the majority of that time, I was happy with her practice. Recently, however, I had a problem with her office staff that spiraled out of control. Apparently, her office was (and may still be) using a outsourced company to take some of her phone calls. It was more than just an answering service, however. The people from this service would provide information and pass along requests to the in-house office staff, unless they don't.I was prescribed medication that contained counter indications for my kidneys according to the literature. I decided to contact Dr. Dhawan's office on a Sunday and I expected to leave a message. Instead I got the outsourced service. I explained my concern and was told the Doctor would be informed and return my call. That never happened.I waited a couple of days and called back. No one in the "real" office staff had any knowledge of my first call. Some additional promises were were made and not kept. By Friday afternoon, I was pretty wound up. I called the office again trying to get some kind of timeframe for when I could get my simple question answered. That call did not go well, and I was irate; I'll own that. I just wanted to know how and when I could get my question answered. Dr. Dhawan's office assistant became upset and told me she didn't want to talk to me. Instead, she was going to put her manager on the phone. I later found out that her manager was not in the office. That sorta explains why I was placed on hold forever. I finally realized that twern't no one coming back. So, I hung up and called back. This time, I got the answering machine that I was expecting a week ago. Now, at this point, I had been screwed with for a week and it was 4:30 in the afternoon on a Friday. They weren't answering the phone and that meant another weekend before I could speak to anyone just to find out if and/or when I can get this simple question answered. So, I sat down and enjoyed a beer to relax. Haha! No, you know that's not what I did. I grabbed my car keys and drove down there. When I arrived, perma-hold chick was hiding in the treatment area. Another lady greeted me and kindly listened to my epic story. She apologized and promised to have Dr. Dhawan call me.The doctor did, in fact, call me probably the next day, but it was soon enough. The first thing she did was answer my question. She answered it a lot. Like, it was more or less a yes or no deal, and she spent fifteen minutes on this topic. I assume she was burning time so she would have an excuse to ignore the customer service problems that were definitely on my agenda. And yes, that's what was happening. I thanked her for the exceptional fifteen minute yes or no answer and told her I'd like to discuss the problems I had.She would have none of it. She began to berate me for being impatient. She then--and this is really good--accused me of placing myself as a higher priority than her Covid patients who were dying. What?! Umm, no. She has also mastered the art of talking at the same time as I did, never once giving me any opportunity to say anything. So, towards the end of this encounter, I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere and I shutdown. I politely let her finish saying crazy things and she ended the call. I doubt she knew anything about what actually happened or even when I first called. Her staff probably rallied to create a new narrative that omitted what they did and dialed up my hated of people dying from covid. Because that's just so who I am.It's too bad that no one will read this. There are like six reviews here or something. So listen: as far as I know, Dr. Dhawan is a good doctor. Everything else might be a ticking time bomb, but your mileage may, and almost certainly will, vary. Stay safe out there. And if you're on Lithium, get your blood work done regularly.
I trust Dr. Dhawan. She takes time with me explains what's going on in my body and answers questions. I would recommend her to anyone that needs a Nephrologist.
I have been seeing Dr. Dhawan for almost 10 years and have found her to be thorough and caring. She is an excellent nephrologist and a very caring person. I have a serious, and unusual condition that requires a lot of attention, which she has provided. I owe my continued good health to her skill as a doctor.
Excellent bedside(zoomside?) manner. Dr Dhawan provides excellent care and information and has shows great focus when discussing treatment and options.
Dr Dhawan basically saved my father from going into dialysis from what a previous dr did to him... I thank you more than she would ever know !! She listens to us and yes she may lecture but that's because it's her job and passion to save your kidney!! So pls listen when she speaks ...
Very disappointed since I went to her based on a shinning recommendation. Went in and they mentioned having a student doctor shadowing Dr. Dhawan, asked me if was ok. I said yes, only to find the student doctor was NOT shadowing, but was actually attending WITHOUT the Dr. Then, when the doctor came in, she lectured me about my lapse in care without any background on what might have been the reason. I went in at the request of my oncologist to get a low dose of anxiety medication to help get me through treatments, explained this to her and she lectured me about the dangerous drug i was requesting. She did give me a prescription for a couple, but said they would be almost impossible to get again. When asked to come back for additional physical, i said ok, but asked if I could schedule it after my treatments were scheduled so there would not be a conflict. She said yes, then as i was leaving, the receptionist gave me my appointment reminder. I did not feel any compassion or support. I felt judged, mislead and that they didn't listen to me at all. Overall, it was not a good match.
I love Dr Dhawan. I’ve been seeing her for about 3 years in a nephrology aspect. She quickly diagnosed me, took me off of a medication I had been on for 10 years and within a month my kidney function returned to almost 100%. She is extremely thorough, not just focusing on one issue but rather taking in the full spectrum of your overall health. She is very personable and in my opinion an asset to the medical profession and San Jose.
I’ve been a patient of Dr Dhawan’s for 3 years, and she is by far the most attentive and thorough physician I have! She does not restrict her exam to my kidneys alone, she looks at my blood work and addresses every aspect of my health. She is extremely personable and I am 100% confident in her care!
I am a 4 year dialysis patient that has been to nephrologists for 22 years with Polycystic Kidney Disease, I've had 5 different nephrologists and Dr. Dhawan has simply been THE BEST! In my experience nephrologists have a tendency to blame whatever issue you have on something you the patient are doing or are not doing, and often fail to TREAT the patient. I have had nephrologists blame me for something one month, then the next month blame me for NOT doing the thing they just blame me for doing when a lab result comes back different. Not Dr. Dhawan though, she listened to all my concerns, complaints, issues, etc. She compared that to lab results and sent me to get outside labs that were not being done by the dialysis unit. She diagnosed and discovered problems that other doctors ignored, blamed me for not doing something right, or straight up told me that it was outside their purview and that I needed to see someone else- all when it was kidney related! There is just no comparison between a doctor that doesn't care and one that does, and Dr. Dhawan is the first one that I have known that is caring and treats concerns aggressively and compassionately. If you have a choice, or can make a switch- and if she can accept new patients- I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dhawan to any renal patient.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
