They reopened yesterday and I went to see them to have my eyes checked. I was very disappointed at their doctor's safety concern on covid19 awareness and cleanness. She didn't use a new pair of glove in front of me like the doctors at other clinics I have visited in the past did. The glove looks like it's used. The glasses retail area shouldn't be open because I didn't see any social distance. I don't recommend people to go there during covid19 because of doctor-patient's close distance interaction and contact around eye area. I think it is very unsafe there.
Trying to do a routine eye exam for my 5 years old son, searched insurance company website, under our plan, found Dr. Kao's office. When I checked Yelp, did read quite some bad reviews on front desk. Wanted to give a try anyway since it is very close to our home. My wife stopped by this morning to make an appointment. It took quite some explanation for my wife to finally make an appointment, seems the front desk basically knows nothing about the plan. Then in the afternoon they called back, kept saying Anthem told them this is a discount plan...they don't accept, etc. meaning we need to pay cash if we do the exam there. Actually I printed out the plan document and read over the phone, telling them for a little kid, routine exam is fully covered. The lady just kept saying they were told this is a discount plan blah blah. Had to cancel Dr. Kao's appointment and called another Optometry, after asking for my son's information, they quickly found out it is fully covered and made the appointment, they also told me in detail what is covered and what is not, etc.I do not want to say the front desk at Dr. Kao's office is rude though she is definitely not nice, but for sure she knows nothing about health plans.
I should've read reviews before going to this clinic. Now I'm learning there's not just a few of us dissatisfied customers. To get straight to my point: FIND ANOTHER CLINIC WITH BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE! Doctors are okay, I don't have very special needs. Most staff are okay, no problem. But the store manager - TERRIBLE! RUDE! Staff talk behind her back and seem afraid of her.To the staff: Stand up to your manager! If you get fired, you can be sure you won't find a worse boss. To Dr. Kao: Fire your so-called store manager Anne Fang. For sure you won't find anyone worse. You are losing customers because of her.
She listens well to patients.
This doctor charges so much money and the service is not good. Her staff are rude and the doctor is way too busy to handle her clients' work. You can never get an appointment even if you want to pay her. I will not recommend her to anyone.
I went to dr Kao for yearly regular eye exam. Dr Kao may be a good doctor, but I feel she is very greedy. The contact lens she sell in her office are much more expensive than if you buy outside. She will also try to sell you vitamin for eyes and suggest you to do extra exams which are not covered by insurance. I am looking for another doctor that care more about the patients than money.
I took my niece in to see Dr. Kao. We had a below-average experience. Dr. Kao was being extremely concise in her explanation, as she might had other pantients to take care of. My niece did not like the doctor either, as the way she talked to my niece was way too blunt (It almost felt like the doctor was blaming her). In summary, I believe each patient should get the deserved attention from the doctor, which we did not get from Dr. Kao.
Dr. Kao is a very thorough optometrist who remembers and knows her patients well. She's an expert in a lot of specialty areas, like the gas permeable hard contacts for vision correction, and she does a lot of co management with ophthalmologists for LASIK, cataracts, etc. Her associates are younger but also very knowledgeable, and I think they're usually all from UC Berkeley optometry. There's a huge selection of sunglasses and frames at a lower markup than many other optometrists, and she has everything from Fendi to Kate Spade to Juicy to Armani.Be warned - if you want an appointment with Dr. Kao specifically, you'll have to call pretty far in advance, especially for those Saturday appointments. Try the waitlist, too, as that moves sometimes and you may be able to get something earlier.
