List of Tory Prestera's Reviews
If zero stars was an option I would give a zero. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. If you want an honest doctor then this is not the place for you. Dr prestera is a greedy old man with a Napoleon complex. He cares for nothing more than money and constantly strokes his own ego in the hopes of offsetting his tiny noodle. It's comical that an optometrist could be so blind to his own narcissism.
There's a reason why he has a low rating. The whole staff is rude and treats you like that. And the Doctor let's you wait in the room while he socializes with a nonpatient about other things than medical. They also did not inform me before surgery on all money owed and then tried to cover it up later
Consistently runs late to schedule appointments, by 30-60+ minutes. Arriving early and or on-time of schedule appointments will not results in being seen by the Dr. On time. Generally, the intake of nurse taking standard eye measurements is quick, but waiting to see the Dr. Is not. I have had over 5 visits and none have been even close to the schedule time. Although his staff and Dr. PRESTERA is knowledgeable, the office and customer service of of a Dr.s visit is lacking.
Dr Prestera is great, we've been a patient of his for the last 10 years. However I think it's time to find another Dr. The office staff lacks efficiency and people skills. Also the appointments run really far behind. It's alway a 3 hour wait after the scheduled appointment. I personally liked it when the office was smaller, it ran more efficient.
If I can give her zero star, I would do so but it's not available. I had my right eye cataract surgery done by Dr Prestera and it was one of the worst decision I ever made. I've already informed the VA not to send any more patient to her. The actual operation was very painful. My experience with another doctor where I had my left eye cataract surgery done was no where close to the experience I had with her. Her reasoning was because I was older. Afterwards, I had issue with double vision and very dry eyes. My left eye doesn't have this issue.
I never thought I would write a review like this. After several visits there and having a little success with irritation and blurry vision in my right eye, I came in for a follow up appointment at Dr. Pestera's request. As prior treatment had not been effective, he said he would have another doctor there to provide a second opinion.Upon arriving the receptionist asked my name and looked up things on the computer while I stood there for 2 to 3 minutes. When I asked if there was an issue she said "No, go have a seat and we'll call you." I subsequently learned that that second doctor was on vacation and would not be available. Based on the fact it takes me a half an hour to get there, and another half an hour to get back, not having the facilities that were originally promised in scheduling the appointment available should have resulted in a call to reschedule. Obviously, that didn't happen. An hour and 15 minutes after my appointment time, Dr. Prestera entered the examination room. He was wearing a mask but his nose was uncovered. When I asked him if he would please pull the mask up he immediately argued that he got vaccinated, he is a doctor, he's got a PhD and he doesn't buy into the whole mask thing, blah, blah, blah. I told him I was not interested in a debate about masks as I was about finding a solution to my eye irritation. As if to challenge me further and punctuate his point, when he sat down in front of me, face-to-face, with only a foot or two between us and the machine, he pulled his mask all the way off! If he looked at my records he would know I had at least three co-morbidities to Covid-19. So much for "First do no harm!"When I told him that the treatments he had recommended prior had not worked, he basically blew me off saying "Well obviously I can't help you," and wrote a referral to another eye doctor. When I asked him if he was going to recommend any additional treatments he actually replied "Well you're not in imminent danger of going blind."In my opinion this is unconscionable behavior by a medical professional. We are all used to waiting, and allowing for several attempts at treatment to be effective. But having been there several times and listening to his spiel, with myself and other patients as well, it is clear to me that he's more interested in impressing everyone with his knowledge than he is with real healing, at least that is how it seems to me. About 50% of his staff is professional and courteous. The rest act as though they would rather be doing anything else than dealing with you. If you have any other options available to you, I would recommend you explore them before coming to this eye clinic.
I recently filed a complaint about tory prestera and he had the audacity to blatantly lie to my insurance about the conversation he had with me. he lied and said he mentioned to me artificial tears. I went to him to simply get a referral for a certain type of surgery to which he denied knowing anything about it or knowing what to do. This person does not care about your health or well being. Do not go to this practice!
My brother has cerebral palsy and was told if he would not take care of his keratoconus that he would go blind. He had the misfortune of going to this doctor for help to get a referral. My brother is a kind and hard working man who despite his disability goes to San Diego State, studies hard and has above a 3.0 GPA. The call I received from him after he was seen by this doctor is one that I had never received, and never thought my brother would ever be like this, hyperventilating at the disdainful treatment he received from him saying that he had never felt like such a piece of dirt. Even someone from his own clinic said they only put up with him because they need jobs. I will be submitting a complaint to the medical board of California on this doctor and hopefully my brother can find a doctor who cares about him and is willing to help him out with his illness. Unfortunately, I too know all too well how doctors treat you when you have public insurance. There was a time that I also needed public insurance to treat me for my illness and received the same kind of disdainful treatment from certain doctors, even though I have paid in a lot more into the system than I have taken. Some people are able to handle it better than others, but I never thought a doctor would treat a disabled person in such a manner. Again, the I will be submitting a complaint to the Medical Board of California.
Absolutely the worst doctor experience ever. Rude beyond comprehension. Insane waiting time - they schedule appts and the dr isn't even there! Similar to other comments here - wish I had read them first! Avoid at all cost...plenty of polite, respectful eye doctors out there...
This is doctor is bad..don't go to him..I heard he married a child and she is really rude..he yells at the people who work there ...his child wife just sits around ...I walked out because he said I had to pay first...I'm Medicare and Medical..he said I couldn't see him because he doesn't take my insurance..REALLY RUDE! The person working behind the desk was also rude..he needs to be investigated...he wasn't wearing a mask

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
