Donna Ornitz's Online Review Report Card

My pediatrician recommended Dr. Ornitz so we went there thinking they would accept PPO (same as our pediatrician). Big mistake on my part for not checking. I have 2 types of insurance, but because Dr. Ornitz is out-of-network, VSP didn't cover anything. They have many other doctors in the same medical group that are in-network.. On top of that, they charged a "NEW PATIENT EYE EXAM" of $375 and a "Special eye evaluation" of $139 (total $514) for my 4-year-old daughter. The eye exam and the doctor was nothing special. Learn from my mistake and ALWAYS CHECK YOUR INSURANCE!!

My daughter has been Dr. Ornitz's patient since she was in Kindergarten and now she is in college. She has been visiting Dr. Ornitz twice a year. We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Dr. Ornitz is an exceptional doctor - she is passionate about her job; she took the time to get to know us personally. She is professional, knowledgeable, kind and always willing to try different ways to solve the problem. The staff is also very professional. They have created a welcoming environment in the office. Lorraine in particular has been amazing. She is always patient, cheerful and upbeat. She takes the time to answer all our questions. She puts you in a good mood. I am very grateful for Dr. Ornitz and her wonderful staff.

We visit Dr.Ornitz' office once a year to follow-up on a few things related to my 4 year old son's eyes. While going to the doctor is never fun with a little one , especially during COVID, I feel like I am in great hands with Dr. Ornitz. She is thorough, knowledgeable, and spends the necessary time doing extra tests and answering any questions I have. My only critique is that in the past we have had to wait a while to be seen but thankfully, our apt today was right on time.I also want to mention, Lorraine, the office manage/Jill of all trades who is really amazing. She is incredibly patient, really good with kids, and just overall makes the visit a smooth and supportive experience to nervous parents. I'm incredibly appreciative of her and the important role she plays in that office. Thank you!

We've seen Dr Ornitz for years and have always appreciated her approach to solving both of my daughters' eye issues. She continues to study new treatments and encouraged me to give my daughter a newly developed eye drop that actually reversed some her near-sightedness. Eve during Covid lockdown, we were able to stay on track and when we had an appointment, we were seen quickly and with precaution. I feel grateful to Dr. Ornitz, Dr. Thai and all of the wonderful people at Peninsula Eye Physicians!

This review is specifically for the front desk/scheduling. We waited three months for an appointment for our child with Dr. Ornitz and drove up from Cupertino only to be told that our medical group was not accepted, our referral couldn't be found and that they had written the incorrect contact number down so I couldn't have been advised sooner. I spoke with Dara(?) a few times to confirm insurance and receipt of the referral and was told everything was fine. The sheer incompetence is astounding.

Dr. Ornitz saved the sight in my son's right eye! While another doctor said that there wasn't much to be done based on his birth defect, Dr. Ornitz said, "I have seen much worse get to 20/20!" She was the monkey on his back to patch, patch, patch for four years, and his eye that was 20/300 is now 20/25! Try to look past some of the negative reviews here and concentrate on the fact that Dr. Ornitz will fight for the best eyesight possible for your child!

I highly recommend Dr Ornitz! Two of my kids wear glasses so we visit twice a year for their eye exams. My third sees her annually as he has a condition in which requires an annual eye exam. About 5 years ago, Dr Ornitz performed eye muscle surgery on my son as his eye was wandering outward. The surgery was a fantastic success and the alignment of his eye looks great. We couldn't feel better about the result. She is a fantastic doctor and very easy to talk to. She's always gives our visits the time needed, we never feel rushed while actually keeping on schedule. I've been taking my kids to her practice for the last 8 years, I only wish we had found her sooner!

The billing department is incompetent and liers Gives you wrong information.Caught them billing my insurance for a refraction after I paid then at the office already when they told me my insurance would not pay for retractions. Found out my insurance does pay for it and they billed then for it already and got paid. So they got paid twice. I called a asked for a refund but the lady wouldn't call the Insurance just using excuses the insurance didn't pay yet and info call every insurance for every person. I just told you I spoke with my insurance. They paid you. Why would I call and go through all this. Get you head out of your ass. Then she slams the phone on me. Then the doctor calls my wife and says I am making her employees I can't see your children anymore. Good. Your nothing special. Your not the only eye doctor in the Bay Area. Keep your staff They represent you and your practice. I can take my kids to see someone else. You lost a customer for life thanks to your billing dept. Maybe your lose some more customers. We will let them make that decision

I am sorry to hear the negative reviews about Dr. Ornitz and her office. It seems like people are more likely to write up a negative experience than a positive one. I would bet that there are tons of happy parents out there who have not thought of writing up a yelp review. I have been taking my daughter to Dr. Ornitz for 7 years (since she was 5 years old). Dr. Ornitz has always spent a lot of time with us in the office. After a nurse does some prep work and dilates my daughter's eyes, she does her exam and makes her recommendations. She answers all of our questions and makes sure that my daughter understands the information. Although I know she sees a lot of patients each day, I have never felt rushed out of the office.She has a great reputation in our community, and I would easily recommend her to any parent.

Dr. Ornitz saved my son's life. If it wasn't for her insistence and then quick actions, I don't even want to think about what would have been. We are forever in her debt. If you are looking for a true Doctor, with compassionate heart and also who is thorough-- see dr. Donna Ornitz!!
