List of Marna Skaar's Reviews
Highly recommend
I had cardiac bypass surgery and everything went well. Two weeks later, I had a day at home where I felt lightheaded, then fine, then lightheaded, and so on. Around late afternoon, I started sweating uncontrollably and then my head went back, eyelids were fluttering, and I lost consciousness. I regained some consciousness when the EMT's were there. They checked my blood pressure and it was around 66/40, so they pumped some saline in me and rushed me to Mills-Peninsula hospital. In the emergency room, they rushed some blood into me and admitted me into the ICU. Dr. Skaar was the GI doc on call. She figured out I had a bleeding ulcer and had lost nearly half my blood. She took me down for an endoscopy, found a bleeding duodenal ulcer (what turned out to be the first of two), clamped and cauterized it, and then took care of me for the rest of my time in the hospital. She was caring, compassionate, professional, and highly competent. She even took time to speak daily with my sister (who is a physician) to help me better understand everything going on. My sister was super-impressed with her, and that's a rare honor indeed. I saw Dr. Skaar on follow-ups, and everything went smoothly. Dr. Skaar is the best - highly recommended!
Absolutely professional and thorough..She personally called me to give me the results of my colonoscopy..I can assure you not many doctors do that nowadays!!
The receptionist at this office is so rude that it's hard to believe this is even a doctor's office. In addition, the doctor, who treated my mother, seems to have a superficial and dismissive approach to treating patients. She has repeatedly cancelled an appointment my mother has tried to make to discuss treatment for a very painful and traumatic condition, the reason being given that there is nothing to discuss. The academic literature on the subject is complex and describes many treatment approaches, while the doctor states (via her office staff and strangely via personal voicemail on a Sunday night at 10pm to me) that there is no need for an appointment because there is nothing wrong.
I've had many gastro Dr in my time, but none have done such a thorough job she has. She want to see data to support her findings which is so much better than the one put me on broad spectrum antibiotics, which caused me to get C. Diff!! She is also straight and to the point, if you want someone who's going to baby you then it might not be a fit. Overall I'd say she is one of the best Dr's I've ever had!
Had a colonoscopy with Dr. Skaar, her staff provided me with the wrong address. It was a fiasco the day of the appointment. I asked the exchange contact her, since I had been waiting in the rain for over 20 minutes, it was 6:30 am. She contacted me and lectured me, stating that had never happened before. Right before the procedure, she came to greet me and once again, repeated that that had never happened before. Her attitude left a lot to be desired. After the procedure, she never came to talk to me, as I was told she would. I contacted her office a few days later to find out about the results, spoke to Stephanie. She was rude, unprofessional and impatient. I usually do not write reviews, but this is noteworthy, I felt I was being treated like a child and that it was my fault that her staff had made a mistake.
My grandfather visited DR. Scaar on March 6th and she was very attentive and efficient in diagnosing the problem. She made his appointments with the specialists herself and called back several times to make sure he was feeling okay. She went above and beyond to make sure he was getting the right treatment and even checked in with us when he started going to other specialists. We greatly appreciated her help and would recommend her to anyone.
This is an overdue review. Way back when we didn't have Yelp to write reviews, I was referred to Dr. Skaar due to severe stomach discomfort and diarrhea. During the visit, I was explaining the excruciating pain I had on my lower back and stomach. All she had to say to me: "Oh, you women always have pain here and there. Just a second, I need to answer my phone, they are delivering furniture to my house." According to the medical oath a doctor takes is to put first the care of a patient rather a piece of furniture. Then, she had the guts to call me ten years later to see how I was. Isn't it a bit too late? I changed doctors anyway after the most shocking visit.
My grandfather went to Dr. Skaar on Marth 6th 2018 and she was very attentive and efficient in diagnosing the problem. She made the appointments with another specialist herself and checked in several times to make sure he was feeling okay. it really felt like she cared for his wellbeing and was personally invested that he received the best treatment. We highly recommend her to anyone.
I was fortunate to be under Dr. Skaar's care when I lived on the Peninsula. There is a reason why she is so respected by both the medical community and her patients. Dr. Skaar is extremely thorough, which makes her very skilled at making accurate diagnoses and saving lives.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
