MIchael Drinnan's Online Review Report Card

Before my cataract surgery, Dr. Drinnan told me that I was going to be thrilled with the results and I would have a new lease on life. Of course he did say "There is a slight chance something could go wrong, but that possibility is so remote that the benefits outweigh the risks." What I could never have anticipated was his reaction when something did go terribly wrong. At my post op appointments, I tried desperately to discuss it with him. He was extremely defensive, accusatory, and utterly dismissive of my symptoms. He accused me of exaggerating, imagining it, being dramatic, being overly sensitive, and he outright denied anything was wrong. He even tried to suggest that the horrific symptoms that appeared immediately following eye surgery must be due to conditions that I DON'T have (like high blood pressure, diabetes, or medications). A full pre-op physical exam, and complete blood work tests are required just prior to the surgery. Mine prove I have normal blood pressure, no health conditions, and take no medicines.I've spent the past year and every last dollar seeking help from numerous ophthalmologists. There is clearly visible and obvious evidence of the surgical damage upon basic examination of my eye. The doctors have referred me around to their colleagues in an attempt to help me, but nothing can be done to fix the surgical injuries. After many months of suffering from the damage to my eye, my other eye developed "sympathetic stress related ocular damage" as well. Apparently, the eyes work together as a unit, so if one has a serious physical injury, the other one gets overly stressed trying to compensate. If you use Dr. Drinnan for your cataract surgery the chances are that he has more successes than failures. But if something goes wrong, do not expect any understanding or medical help with the nightmare that will follow. His concern will be to deny your symptoms in order to defend himself. My vision and thus the quality of my life is damaged beyond repair. There is nothing I can do except live the rest of my life with the life altering visual injuries that he caused to me.

So happy that I chose Dr. Drinnan. I had cataract surgery on each eye a month apart. The operation was very smooth at Mills Center. prior to surgeries, Dr. Drinnan said I will be very happy with the outcome and he was right. I now see 20/20 both eyes. Of course I do need reading glasses and plan to get bifocal readers so enable me to wear all day.Thank you Dr. Drinnan and staff.

I had cataract surgery last week and Dr. Drinnan did an absolutely fantastic job. He has done this literally thousands of times and has complete mastery of his craft. I experienced no pain or discomfort at any time during or after the surgery. He was extremely kind and supportive throughout the entire process. I recommend Dr. Drinnan without qualification. He is a local medical treasure.

I was referred to Dr. Drinnan by my optometrist for cataract surgery evaluation, in early 2018. At the initial consultation, Dr Drinnan made me feel at ease and answered all my questions in detail. Several weeks later, Dr. Drinnan performed surgery on my eyes with multi-focal intraocular lenses. Dr. Drinnan is great!He's very knowledgeable about ophthalmology, the ins-and-outs of his practice, and also the ophthalmology society in general. Had cataracts. Did my homework in choosing an Opthamologist. So glad I chose Dr. Drinnan. He was professional & gave me all of my options. I asked the right questions & he answered them in a highly educational manner. Explained the new Toric lense for astigmatism. Surgery was easy....Toric lenses in place. I have perfect vision! Amazing! And, when I received the bill for the optional Toric lenses...it was a third what I was quoted! Follow up has been very detailed & pleasant. Everyone working at the office obviously enjoys their job.

I am an expat who was living in Davao City the Philippines, when my cataracts began toseriously affect my life. I heard high praise from some of my friends about Dr. Drinnan, soI made the long trip back to san mateo for treatment. Despite being very busy, dr. Drinnantook the time to fully explain the details of cataract surgery and he was very patient answering my many questions.My cataract surgery was a total success. My 84 year old mother was referred to Dr. Drinnan by her regular eye Dr. for a cataract in her left eye. She was very anxious and worried about having eye surgery. Dr. Drinnan explained her options and answered her many questions. She chose the multi focal lenses which require both eyes being done. She is now able to read, one of her greatest pleasures, without glasses, one of her greatest annoyances. She is very happy with Dr. Drinnan and the end result of her surgery.

Dr. Drinnan insisted That I discontinue my Glaucomo Rx...He said there was no medical reason for ths decision..He said he wanted to see what would happen..I am 88yrs old with beginning macular...I know what will happen. I refused . Left the office crying..I had an advocate who witnessed this experience.. I would never reccomend Dr Drinnan.
