List of San Mateo Orthopedic Medical Group's Reviews
Update: I called the office to ask for medical records and a few days later, I logged into My Sutter Health portal and saw that they logged or billed me for a call with Dr Park for following up on my Xrays. I have never ever spoken to or even seen Dr Park! They refused to give an analysis update on my X-rays and I've only spoken to the front desk! I can't believe they tried to charge me and made up a fake phone call follow up!! I will definitely call them next week to ask. Fraud????
I had an appointment yesterday on a Tuesday as I suffered a fall over the past weekend. I scraped my knee and landed on my elbow (thankfully on grass!). I was concerned so I wanted to be seen by a doctor. To be honest, I was Dr. Hazelrig's patient. Dr. Hazelrig is the best doctor in the world! He was extremely caring and empathetic towards his patients. Unfortunately, Dr. Hazelrig retired and I had to make an appointment to be seen by Samantha, who is not a doctor. I waited over half an hour to be seen and Samantha did not even bother to apologize for being late to the appointment. However, I'm thankful to Samantha for helping me apply ointment and dressing to my knee. She wanted to make sure nothing is wrong so she sent me to get some Xrays and told me that she would call me if she received the X-rays the same day. I went to get X-rays right after my appointment and already received the results myself. However, as I am not in the medical field, I am unable to analyze the results of my own xrays. This office does not care about their patients. They are simply money hungry. They do not bother to follow up. Therefore, I called them today (Wednesday) and asked if Samantha could review my Xray results. The front desk told me that I must schedule an appointment for NEXT TUESDAY in order for Samantha to tell me my results. Um, ok... then Why did Samantha tell me that she'll call me the same day which was yesterday, Tuesday?? It's as if they won't tell me anything until I come in for an office visit so they could bill me. Ok fine, bill me but I want to know NOW. What is the point in me waiting another week? I could simply go to another doctor with my Xray results on a CD rom! How hard is it to take a peek at a an Xray? Any doctor would usually follow up with a quick call whether results are good or not. I don't mind if they want to bill for the call. Anyway, summary is that this practice is extremely money hungry, shows no compassion or care for patients. They will treat you like a second class citizen until you are booked for an appointment. It is not what it used to be with Dr. Hazelrig. I even asked the front desk for a note of my diagnosis from my Tuesday appointment and still received nothing. Will not return to this practice and I urge others to find more caring doctors. And by the way, could someone please tell me if Physicians Assistants bill the same rate as doctors? I was not even seen by a doctor....

I have seen Dr Park a few times He is very knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner
Great practice. I tore my ACL and Dr. Park operated on me. He was really good, professional, patient and I felt like I was in good hands. Surgery went great! Not sure why the other reviewers mentioned issues with the receptionists/staff but they were great with me and very responsive (maybe there were changes?). Anyways, highly recommend Dr. Park
I had my knee scoped by Dr. Park in October. All went very well, just as Dr. Park had anticipated. He and his staff were terrific. They were courteous, professional, and most accommodating. No one wants to go through a surgical procedure, but I know I was in great hands through the entire process. I highly recommend the San Mateo Orthopedic Medical Group for any orthopedic procedures that you may require.Jim Walsh
My family has seen both Dr Park and Dr Hazelrig at this practice. Dr Hazelrig had a lovely bedside manner with my child (broken toe) and put us all at ease. He fielded my questions and explained what we were looking at on the xray. We saw Dr Park for another child's (yeah, active kids! or clumsy...) thumb injury. We had previously gone to our pediatrician and were sent elsewhere to get an X-ray. The Radiologist there (Peninsula diagnostic imaging) said there was no fracture. Dr Park requested us to have another X-ray done in house and he was able to identify a fracture. Dr Park has a ready smile and my pediatrician mentioned he is one of the few specialists around who take the effort to write the PCP a note to update our Dr on the diagnosis. Love it when your doctors can work together! I love finding out more (which bone? can you show me on the X-ray?) and Dr Park didn't volunteer details. But he also didn't hesitate to answer the questions that I posed. Shout out to the assistant Veronica! We had a shock and some issues with billing from the medical equipment company for a brace. She went to bat for us and managed to speak to them and renegotiate. This was above and beyond her job requirement and I am really grateful.
One of the best doctors I've ever gone too!
The doctors here are excellent. Unfortunately they have a terrible office staff. They are rude and unprofessional. It's really an unfortunate situation because while I really like my doctor, I refuse to deal with their staff again. I'll be transferring to another doctor group. An additional note: they recently sent me a "final notice" for a $10 bill and threatened to send it to a collection agency. I was never sent a first notice. AND the "patient Portal" that should take payments online has a 404 error and does not work. Clearly another failure of the office staff. Never again.
The two stars here are for the two times I have seen Dr. Chen at this office. He is compassionate, thorough in his evaluations, and very good at explaining complicated conditions in simple terms. He has seen many of my family members and we are all thankful for his care. If it weren't for him I would not be a patient of this practice. The management is atrocious. I am hardly ever able to get through on their phone lines, I leave messages and don't hear back, and worst of all they do not leave adequate room in their schedule for patient follow up visits. If a doctor/PA/NP recommends close follow up visits or a procedure it is unacceptable to make them wait multiple months for this. I could tell numerous horror stories about this office but i will share just one. Most recently I had an MRI ordered by the PA after I was seen in the ER. I called a week later to get the results and was told I would get a call back. Another week went by with no call. I had to call their office again to follow up and was told that unfortunately the PA was out for the next 2 weeks!! I was extremely upset and the staff new this. Thankfully, I received a call from Dr.Chen who explained the results to me after this. I had not even seen him yet for this injury and he kindly reached out after 6pm on a Friday to review the MRI with me. It is unfortunate that the care of the talented doctors of this office is overshadowed by poor management. The office staff drives me crazy as well but I guarantee they are doing the best they can given the practice's absolute horrible and unprofessional management. If you are a doctor/PA/NP at this practice and are reading this review, I urge you to remember why you entered the healthcare field, advocate for your patients, and help them attain the high quality care that they deserve.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
