List of Soma Mandal's Reviews
I've been a patient at Summit Health for years, and while I've generally had a positive experience with most doctors there, almost every interaction from the start with my primary care physician, Dr. Soma Mandal has been awful. She isn't responsive to concerns, doesn't seem to pay attention to details, has been aggressive, and actually yelled at me a number of times for issues that I expressed to her- including labs not being transferred from one provider to another, and her skipping over a teledoc appointment her office had scheduled with me. More importantly, she missed an abnormality that showed up on a lab until 3 year latr, and failed to treat another issue after repeated lab results indicated unfavorable results. I have not found a new primary care doctor, but hope to spare anyone else having to deal with Dr. Mandal.
Like the review under me, I chose her after reading so many excellent reviews. My previous physician was terrible, had horrible bedside manner, and tried to push medicine on m when it was unnecessary so I was eager to make a change. When I saw Dr. Mandal I was pleasantly surprised how jovial and sweet she was. Who knew a physical meant that the Dr. actually looked at your body, unlike my previous physicals with my old doctor. Dr. Mandal also showed concern for my mental well being, since i do have anxiety and had some rough patches recently, and addressed all of my questions in a knowledgeable and positive manner. I'm grateful to have found her, will definitely recommend her services to others.
I chose her out of all the Internists at SMG because of her stellar reviews and awards. She's the real deal and I'm glad I made a great decision. Great bedside manner, super sweet. She took adequate time during my visit and personally followed up.
Dr.Mandal really went above and beyond my expectations. I'm so glad she's my doctor.
She is very good, She is reponsible, very serious, very on time, very energetic, turstworthy, polite doctor
Terrible services. Just plain rude doctor, expensive and not at all knowledgeable. Not at all recommended
I found this physician to have a horrible bedside manner. She discounted my concerns, stared blankly at me, and more than once answered a question by responding, "I don't know anything about that." Her office is conveniently located, she is very punctual and the online scheduling system is convenient, but I found the doctor very off-putting and the experience somewhat unprofessional (the floors are wood and I don't know if that's great for infection control, and patients are sent to a restroom in the hallway that is shared with the rest of the office building floor for urine samples). The last straw was when the doctor YELLED at me. Would definitely not recommend.
I had read some nice things about Dr. Mandal on Zocdoc.com (which Dr. Mandal uses for booking appointments online), so I locked in an appointment for my wife (for a relatively urgent issue) and made travel arrangements for her to come down to NYC for the time scheduled. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, her assistant called and said I needed to also book it through their own site. No problem, except they didn't have the time I had already booked, or anything near it. Long story short, despite a fairly urgent condition, a booked appointment and travel arrangements we had already made as a result of that appointment, Dr. Mandal's office refused to honor the appointment that they had said through Zocdoc was available--no apology. When I said I didn't understand how this happened, the assistant said, "Well, don't use Zocdoc!" Even though they specfically do so. Really unprofessional and hugely inconvenient for us. She may be a terrific MD, but who knows, if they don't keep appointments.
Dr. Mandal had one positive and one negative review from colleagues of mine. When I asked, as a new patient, if she received my files from my old doctor, she said, "maybe" without any interest in actually seeing them. Furthermore, she wrote a few notes about me on the back of a folded scrap paper. I can't imagine that being my new "file." Oddly, she was overly concerned with tetanus and why I should have a tetanus shot- I wasn't sure if I was in need of one because she didn't ask her receptionist if my files were in. But she wanted to go ahead and give me one ANYWAY until I objected- I don't want vaccines I don't need. Not sure why she is so obsessed that she would want to give a tetanus shot before I'm due for one. Also, she proudly stated that she would call me herself with my blood test results regardless of outcome. Great. Except she called me A MONTH later. Those results take a few days. A "micropractice" works if you don't care if your doctor is unorganized.
I don't know what the person on 4/1/08 is talking about. Perhaps you made an appointment with her and really needed to see a psychiatrist. I was seen on time, this doctor was very kind and accomodating, called me within a reasonable amount of time with the blood test results and all explanations. The blood draw went easy and didn't hurt at all. Would definitely recommend to others.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
