I’m so thankful to Dr. Hollstein for helping me with my hand. My arthritis was so bad. It became so difficult and painful to use my hand… From his wonderful bedside manner.. to his clear understanding of my hand issues..to the surgery itself.. this doctor exceeded my expectations. Before and after my surgery he took his time with me and answered all my concerns. He was so kind and comforting. I felt at ease and I had complete confidence in his abilities right from the beginning.. I heard many good things from many others about Dr. Hollstein and all the good recommendations regarding this wonderful doctor are true! I’m so thankful I found him! Highly recommend! I’m healing nicely and I am so thankful to you and your staff Dr. Hollstein!

Dr. Hollstien not only is a caring doctor, but he's an excellent surgeon. I had minimal pain and a fast recovery due to his excellent surgical skills. And, the nurses love him!!

Dr. Hollstien has performed knee replacement surgery on both of my knees. He is so skillful and talented that I have not had one single issue with either knee. He is caring, patient and very accessible when he is needed. I highly recommend him for any orthopedic matter one may have.

Dr. Hollstien is a very talented, amazing orthopedic surgeon! From the initial visit through the surgery process it was a very positive, professional, and successful journey. He is kind, empathetic, patient, and extremely skilled. His assistant Carol and the rest of the office staff are very efficient and organized. The surgery and stay at Goleta Cottage Hospital was exceptional. Thanks to the team above I am not limping anymore and actually playing pickleball on my new partial knee replacement! I highly recommend Dr. Hollstien!

Had same hand surgery with Dr. Holstein for one hand and another doctor for the other hand. Surgery by Doctor Holstein was far superior and has lasted years longer than the other hand specialist's work. Also, I woke up about 15 minutes before surgery was completed with the second doctor. I won't name second doctor because I am amazed at the level of performance for orthopedic surgeons in general.

As a surgical RN for over 25 years, with years of ICU and ED work also, I met Dr. Hollstien when I accompanied a dear, wonderful 92 y/o friend of mine, who had broken her elbow, to her appointment. Having worked in OR's throughout the country, I can tell pretty quickly what kind of surgeon someone is in a short period of time. Dr. H was so kind, straight forward, and professional with her, I was literally "blown away." He addressed the patient at all times, but would look at her son and I when appropriate. Her fracture was terrible and she was unable to have surgery due to other health conditions. My friend claimed to have no pain when Dr. H. palpated the area around her elbow! He explained what he could do for her and was never condescending, as some doctors were who treated her. I vowed to myself when I left that office, that I would return to him when I needed an orthpaedic surgeon. About a year later I did return, and asking him to take an oath to take me as a patient, even though I'm a somewhat non-compliant patient at times and a typical nurse patient (only patients worse than nurses are doctors)! He replied he could handle that. I've since had to visit him four more times. Each time I was treated with dignity, respect, and ultimate professionalism. Plus, I had to have to steroid shots, one time in my elbow and another in my hip. There was NO PAIN with either shot!! Dr. H. uses buffered Lidocaine, which was recommended by the Pain Commission over 15 years ago, but often not used by many doctors. Dr. Hollstien has my highest respect and is a doctor of integrity as well. Highly recommend him!! All staff are terrific too. Nancy J. Sowers, RN, MBA

He is both an amazing surgeon but also takes into account what I would like out of the procedure. His bedside manner helps ease my nerves. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a smart, qualified doctor that takes what you want into consideration when forming a future plan.
