James Spiegel's Online Review Report Card

I had my left knee replaced by Dr. Spiegel, and I am about to have a shoulder replacement as well. He is easy to talk to and prompt in responding to any concerns I have had via text. My knee replacement went extremely well, and I recuperated quickly. I am expecting the next surgery to progress as well. Dr. Spiegel is experienced, competent, and caring!P.S. I am recuperating nicely from my shoulder replacement! It was a longer procedure than expected, but all went well, and again I feel very positive about my eventual recovery! I highly recommend Dr. James Spiegel and his team.

Always makes you feel special and at ease. Gives the best knee injections... Is very good at distracting you, so it isn't so painful. Very happy with how he is so patient with my mom. Hope he is a dr. for years to come!!!

Doctor Spiegel performed a operation on my husband, who had been hit by a drunk driver. He sustained a compound fracture of his left femur. Another surgeon with more experience and a bigger picture of my husbands future use of his leg placed a rod in his hip for stabilization. The rod started to move. Dr. Spiegel dismissed his complaints of pain and when he removed the rod he sliced through all his glut muscles, latissimus, tensor muscles. He is in so much pain now. I would never use this Dr.

this dr. is an idiot...rude ,bad vibes..he sucks...its gonna be a year that i have been injured.saw dr. spiegal in nov..he stated too me that i need a new hip..wow yes..ok..we had a date set. had family make plans were flying in from a different state.surgery time was approaching in  may..a week before surgery he cancelled stating he had a seminar to attend well ok..change plans,plane tickets son was gonna visit fam. had to change everything..dr.spiegal moved the surgery too an earlier date made arrangements again..ok.....two days before surgery he cancelled on me again..hes an idiot ..dont c this guy..addition to all this he did a friend hip now hes disable for the rest of his life..wish this guy would leave santa cruz..practice somewhere else...

BEWARE of this doctor!!  I was referred to him for a fractured shoulder and other injuries following an accident. He placed me in a sling for nearly 4 months. My shoulder did not heal and I continued to have intense pain and impingement. During each visit, he was dismissive, rude and sarcastic.  I also had knee pain from the same accident and he never evaluated it.  He used these ridiculous metaphors to respond to my questions and concerns. For instance, when I asked, "What are my limitations?"  He replied, "If a dog is barking at you, what do you do?"I was finally able to locate another doctor who immediately ordered an MRI. It turned out I needed shoulder AND knee surgery.  It has been a year now and I have undergone 2 surgeries, physical therapy, lost time from work and endured a great deal of pain. Had I been diagnosed correctly in the beginning, my injuries would have had a better chance to heal correctly and I would have been listened to...Unfortunately, I am not the only one that has had this experience with Dr. Spiegel, so I thought I should come forward.  I also work in the healing profession and know the value of treating people with dignity and respect. Two qualities that Dr. Spiegel is certainly lacking in!
