List of Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital's Reviews
I’ll preface my review with the fact that I’m fully insured, and emergency visits in the past on the SAME plan have cost me a couple hundred dollars.I had to go into the SY valley cottage emergency room because they’re the only place in the valley (according to Cottage urgent care) that offers ultrasounds. I was in fine shape, just needed to get an ultrasound before my next month’s appointment to make sure my baby was okay (I had a fever, nausea and aches from my Covid vaccine).I was there for two hours…they just took my vitals, did some basic blood work, did an ultrasound (poor quality and no print-out), gave me some Tylenol and sent me on my way. They billed my insurance an INSANE amount of money, even though we’re in network. After my insurance paid some, I ended up with a $3,000 bill (one for over $2,000 for being there, and one for over $700 for physician/nurse services). For essentially nothing.I submitted a request for re-review, and their response was due to the “severity of my visit,” the pricing stands (what severity? I walked in, had minimal care, waited alone for them to do my quick items, then walked out). Not to mention the nurse who “took care” of me was talking loudly about my symptoms (private, pregnancy-related ones) to the other nurses like I wasn’t there, in front of other patients. I was so embarrassed and it was so unprofessional. Not right.I feel taken advantage of. I’m familiar with medical billing and this is not right. Please please don’t go to this hospital, their intentions aren’t good.
This ER is just scary! My dad was transferred to the ER and was given the worst care. The ER doctor ASSUMED (current health issues) which almost resulted in a unsafe discharge. They tried to fold him up and throw him back in the car. He was weak, could not stand, his legs where in pain , it was not until the nurse noted he should not be sent home ( he’s to weak!) he was sent back into the ER and then transferred to cottage Santa Barbara. This is a treat the patient, get paid and send them home hospital. This is not the first bad experience with them! The ER doctor was unprofessional and lacked skills in patient care! His review will follow!
My husband was there over the weekend & received excellent care from all of the staff.Terrific & professional job everyone!
Excellent service and staff
I was in Cottage Hospital in Solvang yesterday, 3/18/21.I had incorrectly thought that I could just saunter inand have an MRI.I knew that was an odd assumption. But AUDRA, the person at the desk, wasso kind, professional, and helpful.I was so happy that she was there to guide me.I felt that she went beyond just answering my questions. She deserves a huge shout out!Thank you,Patricia (Cara) Goodall
Medical Records Office was amazing to work with! Very conscientious staff.
They are currently playing insurance games with me and not giving me answers or a resolution. I have spoken with administration, been yelled at by phone operators, and harassed at work by insurance agencies over an emergency room visit over 5 months ago. After two months of confusion over wanting to pay out of pocket rather than using workers compensation, I was informed by the administrator that I do not owe any money and the system has no record of me or anyone associated with me owning any money. I informed my employer that we did not owe any money for the visit, as the administrator confirmed both by phone and e mail. Then I receive multiple bills two months later, and multiple letters sent to my place of employment. This hospital neglects to take any responsibility or be accountable for any problems patients have. This experience had made me want to avoid any interaction with any hospital. I bet the hospital will copy paste the same response it had to everyone else’s negative review.
I'm not sure if the hospital deserves 5 stars, but the nurse outside the ER (I believe it was Karen?) certainly does. We had a fall with a head injury with our biking group. The daughter of the woman being treated at the hospital was understandably nervous, and very anxious to get news about her mom. With Covid and all, we couldn't go inside to check in on her. We had to keep going to Karen to try and get updates and I would have expected her to eventually lose patience with us and all our nervous energy. She was caring, respectful, and accommodating throughout, getting updates from the nurse inside and bringing an Ipad for a facetime with Mom to reassure her daughter that things were going OK.Thank you, Karen, for helping us that day.
A detestable establishment.I took my wife in for tooth pain in the middle of the night. We waited for an hour to be seen; in the ER the patient bench had makeup and hair on the disposable paper covering, indicating at least one other patient had laid on the same paper. The doctor spent about 3-5 mins with us and concluded the case as not being that bad. No labs, x-rays or other imaging was performed for proper evaluation. We were billed twice, once from the hospital for $500, and once from a third party company for $1500. $1500 was the doctor’s fee, billed at level 4, the second most severe case under heart attack. We failed to understand why our case was level 4 when we were told it wasn’t a big deal, and certainly nowhere close to a heart attack. I tried to contest the charge using logic.Next started the harassment and threats. Text messages several times a week and letters threatening to send us to collections, all the while trying to receive an explanation. My contest of charges was refused without addressing my chief concerns. The day after our hospital visit, we went to a local dentist who performed: annual cleaning, x-rays, tooth and root removal for $500. Much cheaper than $2000 for a dirty ER room and zero resolution. There are undoubtedly loads of wonderful people working at this hospital, but their efforts are completely shadowed by the hospital/affiliates business practices.
Doctor Robertson in addition to most people at this hospital that I have encountered don't even know how to treat humans correctly. Learn some morals, respect, and dignity.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
