Gary Steinberg's Online Review Report Card

This doctor misdiagnosed me with Moyamoya and performed extensive surgery on me. No neurologic workup whatsoever. After surgery, I decompensated and almost died. I was rushed several times to the local hospital by ambulance and suffered several strokes. I later found out from other neurosurgeons that I didn't have Moya Moya and the surgery made my true condition worse. When I called him for help after surgery, the staff refused to let me speak to any MD and told me to "drink water." I was having severe hypertensive episodes with BPs in 215-240s. They absolutely refused to let me speak to an MD and only would let me speak to an APRN -- An APRN AFTER BRAIN SURGERY!!!! Because the surgery made my condition significantly worse, I suffered several strokes losing speech ability, walking, and still having cognitive issues as a sequelae of the strokes. I use to be a high-functioning professional, but have lost my career and ability to make a living. I can no longer perform my job duties. My life has been ruined by this man. The bad part is that he abandoned me as a patient. Passed me off to his nurse practitioner, Jolie. Once I was admitted to the local hospital, I never heard form her again. This was the mostt traumatic experience of my life, and I'm very resilent. Now, its 2 years later and I still regret coming to him; I hate this man.

I went to Dr. Steinberg after 3 years of trying to find out why I had an occlusion, finally being diagnosed with moyamoya, and being told by my doctors in my city to wait until I had a stroke until I decided to have surgery. I researched who to go to for 6 months and picked Dr. Steinberg because of his excellent reviews. In my 60’s, I was older than most moyamoya patients but his skills are impeccable. He is friendly, understanding, VERY knowledgeable and sympathetic. Only 2 day hospital stay and felt better than I had in 4 years. I recommend him to everyone.

Amazing. Here’s why. I’ve had 5 surgeries done by Dr. Steinberg, my 80 yr old mama, 2. Although I was terrified before my first in 2005, this kind, gentle and brilliant man, from start to finish, somehow made me feel comfortable and at ease. I was well informed, he was patient, empathetic, and brutally honest with what could happen. The same is true with the following 4, (2013, 14, and 2 in 16). Although I wasn’t as anxious before the 2nd one, it happened to be by far the worst as it was a bleed at C-2 inside my spinal column. But if it were not for Dr. Steinberg I’m not sure how much worse my physical state would be due to another Dr. misreading my MRI report. Luckily all of my MRI reports go to Dr. Steinberg, and the the following Tuesday I had that bleed removed, then was sent to a rehab center in Santa Clara. I do have nerve damage but things could have been much worse. After that surgery, the 4th/5th in ‘16 were a breeze. So thank you so much to Dr. Steinberg and his entire staff!

Dr. Steinberg was a true professional. He performed two life saving brain surgeries on me for Moyamoya disease. If it were not for his expertise and commitment to patient care, I might not be here today. There aren't words to express my gratitude and the ultimate respect I have for him. I was right to trust and believe that he would heal me.
