List of Shailaja Bhatia's Reviews
I’m shocked at the unprofessionalism and discriminatory nature I endured with this person. Her lack of professionalism ignored facts that had resulted in serious medical consequences and hospitalization. This behavior has been reflected with complaint to the Medical Board as well.
Shailaja Bhatia is a very unprofessional person within the Medical Field and I would avoid at all costs. She is discriminatory towards people within the Community and has had complaints with the Medical Board filed on her. Sadly this means even with a free membership within OneMedical, our family would rather not risk more health complications due to her neglect of caring as a said professional within the Medical Field.
Worst doctor Ive ever visited. She completely misdiagnosed absolutely everything. For some bizarre reason, she decided I had mumps. I had no visible swelling on either side, and I was vaccinated as a child. She never once even asked me if Id been vaccinated. I disagreed vehemently with her assessment, but she seemed intent on not addressing the one and only reason I was there, to refill a prescription that Ive taken for years. She dismissed that within the first 30 seconds of our conversation by saying the medicine is not for what I have. If you go online, it clearly states that the medicine Im taking is approved by the FDA to be prescribed for EXACTLY the condition I have. She even took it a step further and wanted to know the information of the doctor who had originally prescribed it. She asked in a very threatening manner as if she wanted to report him. It was deeply disturbing. But it didnt end there. Because she insisted on testing me for mumps, she went online to look up how to test for mumps. She then claimed she does it all the time, which is strange to begin with since mumps is fairly rare in a country where everyone is vaccinated as a child, and strange she said that after just needing to look up the procedure online. She then painfully rubbed the sides of my jaw, claiming the fact that it hurt was more indication of mumps. Trust me, if I pushed the sides of her jaw that hard she would be crying from the pain. I put up with this swabbing technique of hers, but then she insisted on a blood test. When she said it would cost money to send my samples in for testing, thats where I drew the line and said no, enough of this nonsense, Im not paying for unnecessary tests. This was on the phone a week later and if she had bothered to ask I could have told her my original complaint (a sore throat) was completely gone. When I first arribed at her office, she was about 15 minutes late bringing me in. So the visit went about 10 minutes past the normal amount of time. I saw later that she marked me down for 2 visits! If I havent persuaded you by now, Ill tell you two more crazy things that happened. First, when I said I wouldnt pay for mumps testing, she told me the government would pay if I had a job where other people would be exposed. I told her I work from home and its not an issue. She kept pressing to find out what company I work for. It became shockingly clear to me that she wanted to call that company and warn them I might have mumps! Basically she was trying to put my job at risk. As if this all wasnt egregious enough, the last straw, what prompted me to write this review, is what happened today. Today, I received two bills from the lab for mumps testing, totalling $401. Are you f*cking kidding me? I expressed myself very clearly that I was not willing to pay for mumps testing since I knew I didnt have mumps. There is something wrong with this doctor and you should not trust her.
I found an appointment on short notice with Dr. Shailaja for a medical concern and she was wonderful! Generally, I like to do my research ahead of time, but it was more important to get in and see someone. Dr. Shailaja was friendly, listened to my concerns and addressed the issue with great care. I appreciated her thoughtfulness and will book an appointment with her again when needed.
Doctor shailaja is a great doctor, she is very professional and helpful. She regularly sends me messages to know how everything is going with my medical issues. She is a very calm and patient doctor. I recommend Dr.Shailaja.
I have seen several fabulous doctors throughout my three years as a One Medical member, but Shailaja is not one of them. My issue required an uncomfortable exam and she was not gentle or patient. I told her that Im sensitive to pain and she was very impatient with me. I had the same exam twice in my adult life (once in DC and once at One Med in Oakland) and I dont remember it being as painful as it was last week. What I do remember is that both of the doctors who did this exam did not get upset like she did when I was uncomfortable. She raised her voice and said I cant do this exam if youre moving! I was on the verge of tears and screamed that I needed a break, but somehow I got lucky that she told me she was done. After the exam, she did a 180 and seemed friendly and interested in my life. Because of this improved behavior, I might have given her 3 stars. However, I got the results of my test and I unfortunately have a problem that requires more specialized care. Just thinking about this news brings flashbacks to how traumatic last week was.Maybe I caught her on an off day, but thats not an excuse for her to raise her voice due to my discomfort.Even though I was able to see her outside of work hours within the week I needed to be seen, I wish I took an hour or two off work to see my regular PCP (SuMay Lee) who is much more gentle and patient.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
