David Handman's Online Review Report Card

Dr Handman is a gifted, highly skilled surgeon with a great sense of humor. He is one in a million. We are sad he moved out of our area.

Dr Handman is a very skilled and competent surgeon. He made my son whole again and restored his health. He did a beautiful job in what was a very tedious and long surgery, and that no one else would undertake. Thank you Dr Handman.

Dr. Handman was responsible for my spending three days in L.A. County U.S.C. trauma unit, because he refused to treat me. The doctors in Los Angeles would not release me until I got proper care, and he finally accepted me into ICU step-down instead of sending me directly home two days after suffering a subdural hematoma and other injuries in a car accident. According to hospital records, he lied about his care for me. He forced me to be discharged with no ride or place to go and before I was even able to get up the steps to my house. He caused me delayed recovery and considerable pain, humiliation, and suffering, because he had to follow the advice of the trauma doctors. His care was unacceptable.

He did great work, very smart, attentive to detail.

Handman claimed the lump on my left side was an mematoma. The lump was lanced open approximately 6 inches and I was told it would heal from the inside out. After 2 to 3 weeks a wound care nurse red flag emailed Handman telling him there was a problem with the wound and said he would see me at my appointment with the physician assistant wound care specialists of which he failed to show. Two weeks after that another surgeon at Kaiser was summoned by the PA because she felt something was wrong and the new sugeon agreed. I was scheduled for surgery to remove the open lump that had grown bigger than a golf ball that night and had 6 1/2 inches of my side removed. Since this began other lumps formed throughout my body but was diagnosed as lipomas. Four days later I was told by phone from my urologist that I had been diagnosed with (Stage 4) non hodgkins lymphoma. I was left with an open malignant tumor for 7 weeks with at least 3 other tumors surfacing. Dr. Handman was noticed on more than one occasion that something was wrong and did nothing putting my life at risk. Handman and Kaiser provided me with a low standard of care.

After performing an abdominal hernea surgery on my mother, instead of coming to the family waiting room to provide the outcome, he left and went home for the day. A nurse had to provide us with the information. When my mother (62 yo) returned to have her 15 staples removed after two weeks, Handman said she was clear to return to full duty at work with no restrictions! She explained that she is a cafeteria worker - then he said "well do what you can. if you tear your incision open again i will get paid regardless to fix it!" Very unprofessional.
