Arrogant, sneaky and pushy!!!! I would advise to find another Dr. ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr Shafa saved my life! My primary care physician had been trying to get an MRI & MRA of my brain for over 2 1/2 months (fighting with my PPO ins - that’s another story) Once approved the initial MRI showed a golf ball size tumor at the base of my brain (left rear side of brain) and the imaging center sent me immediately to ER where Dr Shafa was on call. Before rushing me into surgery he asked ER to perform more tests including a full torso CT scan to ensure this was NOT a secondary tumor or might have cancer anywhere else in my body. Praise God those were all negative! As a result of that good news Dr Shafa sent me home to have a good nights rest and see him in his office the next day. When we met, Dr. Shafa’s first words to us was I would live to be 110, that calmed my husband, daughter and myself immediately. He showed us the tumor from the MRI and said it was likely benign but was starting to choke off the fluid drainage area in my brain and therefore I needed surgery asap or I could die. Dr Shafa has a great bedside manner explaining everything that would or could happen. After another MRI w/contrast the actual size of Tumor was more like a tangerine. He was very honest about the impending surgery but felt positive because he’s performed thousands of this type of surgery & he would treat me as if I were his sister, whom he loves dearly 😊 I went in for more tests plus preop physical for him to be better prepared for my surgery took which took place 1 week later. I firmly believe not having any side effects or NO loss of function etc. is clearly due to Dr Shafa’s perfectionism and demonstrated excellence of his craft. My TMMC hospital stay was half of what was expected. Dr fShafa is my hero, so amazing, caring, comforting, just overall wonderful I highly, highly, highly recommend him as your neurosurgery doctor❣️
If I could give Dr Shafa a 100 stars I would-he’s my hero! Dr Shafa pulled up the pictures from my MRI showing us the location & size of tumor and how it was choking off the brain fluid drainage area and it had to be removed! He felt confident it had been there several years and was slow growing but getting to a very dangerous size & location which needed removing. He was very honest about the surgery, but was positive because he’s performed thousands of this type of surgery & would treat me as if I were his sister, whom he loves dearly. My husband, daughter and I felt I was in very good hands. Surgery took place 1 week later. My TMMC hospital stay was half of what was expected. Dr Shafa is my hero, so amazing, caring, comforting, just overall wonderful I highly, highly, highly recommend him as your neurosurgery doctor!
Worse doctor ever. He treated me incredibly bad. He basically called me a liar when I described my pain and acted like I only wanted pain pills. I have never felt so disrespected in my life.

I had needed back surgery since 2009. I kept putting it off until I could no longer ignore it. I had gotten three other opinions but I didn't feel comfortable with any of those doctors. Approximately October, 2020, I was referred to Dr. Bob Shafa. We met and I instantly felt comfortable and at ease. He spent almost an hour with me going over my MRI and showed me why nothing else would fix me except surgery. Dr. Shafa met with me the day of the surgery and assured me everything would be fine. On March 17, 2021 we did surgery on L4 to S1. I was up walking in the hospital the next day! If you have any doubt whatsoever about how fantastic Dr. Shafa is, believe me, he is the best neurosurgeon in the South Bay. I would highly recommend him. Roselle, who schedules his patients was also wonderful. She set up my follow up appointments and tests so I didn't need to worry about anything. You will be so incredibly happy you chose Dr. Bob Shafa to be your neurosurgeon.
Dr. Bob Shafa is the worst doctor I have ever seen, he talks to you in a very unprofessional manner ,does not listen to any of your concerns and he talks to you like he is the best doctor in the world.
I was barely walking and always with chronic pain in my back. Dr Shafa explained what was wrong and how he would right it. And he did! I left the hospital after only a one night stay pain free. Thank God for Dr. Bob Shafa
I have been having pain associated with a disc in my lower back which is bone on bone, as an old disc was injured and not property treated and somehow disappeared or collapsed, leaving a disc bulge with matter is left pressing against the nerve making exercise near impossible. Doctor was the most pleasant specialist I have ever dealt with. I have anxiety because as a child I observed my Mom, who had a tumor on her spine and problems the rest of her life. He took time and said these are the options if you were my daily I would recommend... It was not self-serving. I feel comfortable with his integrity as well as his knowledge. Stay tuned.
He Is wonderful doctor inside and out. his knowledge is way beyond words as I know many other neurosurgeon who shadow and follow his steps. He is direct and honest which helps solving the actual problem a patient has. surely there is not any bad comments for him. I trust his hands and his work he is a very well experienced and confident neurosurgeon do not hesitate to visit him for your back head or those area's issues.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
