List of City Of Hope South Bay's Reviews
I have had six chemotherapy treatments here. I love the staff. They make you feel comfortable. The first Dr. I was assigned was Dr. Andrew Nguyen. I did not like him. As soon as I let City of Hope know they assigned me to Dr. Sharvina Ziyeh. She was great. I'm not trying to say Dr. Nguyen isn't a good Dr. He just has a very negative approach. The 1st time he saw me he entered in the door I started crying because he had this "you're gonna die" look on his face when he walked in and never smiles. He has bad Karma and gives no faith. Dr. Z was totally opposite. Very happy and made me feel loved. Made me positive. She even wanted to meet my children. The second I met her I knew I was going to live. She introduced to me Ann and Kathy. They are very good at returning phone calls right away, answering question and knowing the answers to everything. Ann even spent an hour explaining to a four- and six-year-old about cancer and their mother surviving. That's work because my kids are very loud and hyper. They love her. I also like Tiffany. She works in the front office. She has a lot of personality. She's very nice and keeps everything private. My first treatment I didn't care for the registered nurse. She wasn't friendly, just all about business. I needed to go the restroom. I don't know how to go to the restroom with all of that equipment attached to me. She's in the nurses' station with her hand on her hip gossiping. I finally said "nurse" loud. She just points to the wall and points to the restroom and says, "just unplug it." She said it so fast that I couldn't understand what she was saying. After that she just turns back around and starts gossiping again. I was about to have a not so friendly talk with her. My husband calmed me down and figure it out. She was bothered by my husband using the wrong restroom. Well maybe if you had explained this instead of nurse gossiping this would not have happened. That was my first treatment. I assumed it would always be like this until I met my next nurse SIDNEY. My favorite. I always request him. Tiffany always made sure I received him. I realized how much he cares. During my 1st appointment with Sidney, I needed help on how to go to the restroom with all that equipment on. He unattached everything and showed me where the restroom was. He also told my husband about where to use the restroom and why he shouldn't use the patient restroom because of chemo germs. Another treatment my husband wasn't there. Sydney heated my food for me. During another treatment I accidently broke my chemo wire. I was paranoid thinking liquid would fly everywhere. I called his name. Sidney fixed it right away and calmed me down. I do nothing when I'm with Sidney. He does it all and is very happy. I have recommended him twice for employee of the month. I'm still waiting for his picture on the wall!!
Every touch point has provided excellent customer service! My first exposure to City of Hope has resulted in such positive experiences that I highly recommend CoH!!
To the So-Called "City of Hope" Administration, I am writing to condemn in the strongest possible terms the appalling treatment I've received from your institution. Your organization has proven itself to be nothing short of a bureaucratic nightmare for vulnerable patients. The offenses: TWICE you scheduled critical medical consultations only to cancel at the last minute HOURS of my life wasted being transferred in circles by your incompetent staff $400+ in lost wages from taking unpaid time off for your broken promises ZERO actual medical care provided - no labs, no exams, nothing The hypocrisy is staggering: Patients face cancellation fees, yet your physicians face no consequences for this unacceptable behavior. This isn't just poor service - it's institutionalized exploitation of the sick. I demand: Immediate reimbursement of $400 for lost wages A written apology from department leadership Guaranteed same-week appointment with a senior clinician Know this: I've already begun warning others through every available platform. Every canceled appointment, every wasted hour, every dollar stolen from working-class patients like myself will be documented and disseminated. The "City of Hope"? More like City of False Promises. You should be ashamed.
My partner of 24 years had stage 4 lung cancer. Unfortunately he had Scan Optum insurance through Medicare. Turns out the Optum oncologist was bad...so we got Dave into City of Hope Torrance. They tested for a "mutant gene" which he had. Treatment consisted of three infusions then the pill Tagrisso. Unfortunately City of Hope is basically an island floating way out somewhere. They have zero communication with hospitals, or doctors. They are a completely isolated entity. This presents a lot of problems, since they miss a lot of important medical info. Dave went in and out of the hospital a few times. Dave's cancer had been reduced and kept at bay for a few months. However he died when his kidney function decrease until it was in failure mode. Did City of Hope know anything about that? Probably not. Did they even call to see what happened? No. Maybe City of Hope in Duarte is better? The Torrance facility leaves a lot to be desired. Communication was a big problem. I lost Dave. So sad.
They not cooperate at all they just racist, what is your Primery language maybe I will not understand you maybe we need to have interpreter she said that at the beginning , her name is Marga she seems that she doesn’t want to cooperate with new patient with accent , very disappointed
Was told to come here by my doctor for hematology, the doctor saw me and said my iron wasn’t “low enough to do anything” and I have to pay like 425 dollars AFTER insurance… for literally nothing! I’m a broke college student paying 25 a month for literally nothing
I see so many negative reviews and wanted to share my experience. Originally I was disappointed in the timeliness of getting an initial appointment (since I was just in the hospital). I was lucky in that a doctor was shocked and knew my slated oncologist and he got it moved up to the next day (instead of a couple of months). Next, I was very discouraged about how long it took to get the ball rolling after seeing the oncologist to get all the referrals started. I was told it sat around on someone's desk for a bit before being dealt with. Lastly, I had two incidents where I had to get aggressive and speak my mind. Once I threatened to change doctors and the second was when I felt that all three of my doctors weren't communicating. THAT BEING SAID, I gave this location of COH a 4-star review because the oncologist doctor resolved my two issues and once we got in harmony and she realized I am a person who likes to know and understand everything and be a part of the process and have to have someone I can communicate with in a timely manner, she resolved it all and her and her staff is great. It took a while, but in the end I felt lucky to have this doctor. She is wonderful, she cared, and she did a lot to move things forward for me, once we got on the same page. I also want to say, that the THE FRONT OFFICE STAFF and INFUSION CENTER STAFF were always AMAZING and the best part of this office! Hands down!! Everyone of them were amazing, friendly, warm, and just do a wonderful job every day (and I have gone to them a lot over about the last year and three months). You really do feel like they care. The head infusion nurse, I forget her name at the moment, but she is AMAZING! You guys really have a good team over there.
Dr. Faynsod, medical oncologist, City of Hope. Dr. Faynsod should not be working with women, especially women with breast cancer. He is not kind or compassionate. He did not take time to clearly explain my pathology report. In a message to Dr. Faynsod I requested that he kindly explain the report. Instead he arrogantly told me he would do everything he needed to do and nothing less, and then told me stop reading and get off of the internet. I just wanted to know understand and know more about my type of cancer. At my bedside, in the hospital, he chastised me for bringing a compression bra that was recommended by City of Hope. He missed three sides of cancer area. During the post op office visit he could not remember if I had a MRI, if I needed radiation, and asked me how old I am? He never spoke to me about oncoplastic after the lumpectomy. PLEASE do not use this doctor. I changed to another doctor at City of Hope, Dr. Lorena Gonzalez, absolutely fabulous.
The staff and doctors are superb. I've always had amazing care and everyone has always been super friendly.
Place so nice all nurses so nice !!!but Dr Ji Hyun Kim, Sometimes she acts like she doesn't care about the patients. I went with my mother because she receives radiation and she was telling her about her medical problems and Dr. Kim just walked away like she didn't care. She's inhuman. She didn't even say goodbye.l feel ignored.

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
