Dr. Luke Deitz's Online Review Report Card

After a horrific, disastrous experience with a Dr. Federico Velez at UCLA Stein Eye Center, I was terrified to start over with a new surgeon. But Dr. Deitz was recommended by another eye surgeon who specializes in lens replacement and cataract surgery, and that surgery was so successful for me seven years ago I trusted that doctor's (Dr. Uday Devgan, a genius) recommendation. I am so glad I went ahead. Dr. Deitz is so thorough, patient, knowledgable, and great at what he does. He was very patient with my questions and in explaining his approach. He went above and beyond to fit me into his always full schedule as I was set to leave the country after my surgery, but I got a  virus right before my surgery and he had to postpone it. He actually came in on a non -surgery day for him to get my vision corrected so I could continue my schedule. That was so kind of him. He is just a total professional and all you feel when you are in his office is extreme confidence that this doctor really knows his specialty and is great at what he does. I am finally not seeing double after about eight years and it's like I got new eyes. Thank you so much Dr. Deitz. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

This place put me off the minute I stepped through the door. The blonde woman behind the counter was fairly rude and didn't seem to have any sense of the meaning of the word "customer service". Their waiting room is all taped off with yellow tape and she informed me that even though we brought a 12 year old in for an eye exam, I would have to wait in my car because the waiting room was "closed". Here's a fun fact....pretty much everyplace is OPEN NOW. Including doctors office waiting rooms. It's called a mask and we're all wearing them. Get with the program.

Let me start by telling everyone looking for a specialist to come to Dr.Deitz. He has changed and impacted my quality of life for the best. I had been to many specialists for my eye condition, and many said they could not help me. As I got older, my eye condition got worse, and I researched the best option for me, which was surgery. I spoke to Dr.Deitz, and he was patient with me; boy, was he patient. After my first consult with him, he made me feel comfortable, but I disagreed with him on certain aspects. He was straightforward and told me he could not do surgery or continue to treat someone who disagreed with him, and I could not agree more since I work in the healthcare field, I understood the relationship between patient and doctor. I got a couple more consults, and a year later, numerous emails, and one more consult in which he explained my treatment, I booked my surgery. For years I contemplated getting surgery and canceled a couple of consults because I was scared, which I should never have, but he would always tell me he understood. He is a professional and the best at what he does. I am forever grateful for his patience and his staff. Whoever is reading this, please stop holding off your appointment and book your surgery. Dr Deitz changed my daughter's life.She was born with a cataract, which was greatly impacting her vision in that eye. Though we intervened early with a different doctor by patching and wearing glasses, she was not improving. We were a week away from a surgical procedure that in my gut felt premature and not quite right, when we sought a second opinion from Dr. Deitz. From the very first visit with Dr. Deitz, everything changed. He explained that her prescription wasn't strong enough, and recommended that we hold off on surgery and return in 2 months. When we did, her vision had improved, and continued to do so with each two-month visit until she was seeing 20/20 with her new glasses. (It was 20/100 in that eye when we came to him.) Just a few months ago, she was able to stop patching for good.We have continued visits every 2-4 months over the course of the last four years, and her vision remains great. Dr. Deitz is incredibly patient, approachable, and kind. He explains things thoroughly, and eases all fears and concerns. He is amazing with kids, and his knowledge is second to none. His office is super kid-friendly, and his staff is always very accommodating. This doctor always goes the extra mile, and truly cares about his patients.

I ended up having surgery 1 week ago and it has been life altering for me. Dr. Deitz had told me that I'm going to wonder why I waited so long. No more double vision and no more headaches in an attempt to focus my vision. The redness faded a lot faster than anticipated and now is in its pink phase.  I can't thank you enough  Dr. Deitz.

I had a great experience with Dr. Deitz and his staff! I've been struggling intermittently with double vision for at least 5 years . My ophthalmologist Dr. Ed Lee referred me to Dr. Deitz and Dr. Wright saying they were the best surgeons for this problem. I called to make an appointment and was told that Dr. Deitz was covered under my insurance. I received an email reminder 2 days prior to my appointment. When I arrived, the receptionist was kind and helpful. I was called in by the medical assistant who was thorough with my eye-related medical history and various eye exams. Then, Dr. Deitz came in and was so kind, patient, and thorough during my eye testing. He literally tested my eye from every angle. He explained different treatment options for me and never pushed me towards one but explained that eventually surgery would be needed. He talked about all of the risks that came with surgery. Several times, he asked if I had any questions and made sure that all of my concerns were addressed. He gave me confidence to trust him with my eyes. I really want to proceed with him but insurance is now telling me that he may not be covered even though I verified it with the office beforehand. If not, I'm thinking of saving up for it.A shoutout to Sharon for explaining and clarifying the costs for the surgery. She had sent me an email with the costs but I didn't understand it well. Thanks again!

Just wrapped up my last visit with dr deitz. Unlike many patients, i got strabismus (cross eye) as an adult. I though it was due to previous vision correction that had digress. I was seeing Double Vision. Cars from the right lane had a shadow image of the car that would show up on my lane. It was more apparent at night time than day time. It became very dangerous for me to drive. When i closed one eye, then shadow image was gone. Was recommended to deitz by an optometrist friend. I had also went to UCLA jules stein institute but ultimately returned to dr deitz because of his extensive experience and confidence. He did 2 measurements. First one was an evaluation. And 2nd one was pre-op. He is a true doctor and confident. Straight to the point. He'll answer all your questions as if you need to completely understand the process. I even proposed for him to do only one eye but his answer was "if we did that, you would not have a positive result and would only be performing 1/2 the surgery". It has been 4months. And i am extremely satisfied with the result. Very happy customer. Definitely go see him for strabismus. Best in town. Dont waste time going to anyone else.PS: notice someone complained about wait time. Never waited more than 15mins. And i've been there about 8 visits. Respectful guy.

Dr. Deitz was great and made the appointment fun for our daughter. There are lots of cool toys in the waiting room, and the examination room was full of Mickey/Minnie decor and stuffed animals. I felt that his examination was very thorough, and I felt reassured and confident about his conclusions. Highly recommended :)

Dr. Dietz rocks! We've been seeing him for 2 years and he's spot on. He's the best in the field in Los Angeles.

He is probably one of the most unsympathetic physicians I have ever met. Not only was he an hour late to our appointment (without apology), he was exteremly flippant towards my sons eye condition and short. No physician should make a patient or their parent feel as if their condition isn’t serious or cause for concern.
